Thank you for a lovely lunch.
I invited two friends and they were very pleased that we were dining in the garden.
Salmon dish -always delicious!
We never had a waiter. We had to ask for everything from a different person each time. We didn’t get the wine that we asked for because of inventory. The food took too long to come out because we were never assigned a waiter. Chaos.
Delicious lobster salad, fantastic eggplant parm and lasagna, good but skimpy chicken paillard. We enjoyed eating in the back garden.
Excellent from the service to the food to the beautiful dishes used
I organize a meetup group that meets here monthly. It's eight of us and they accommodate the group by sitting us at a round table -- "knights of the round table", lol.
The food, the service, and the location is perfect. Intimate, warm, welcoming and inviting.
The wait staff, service, and food were all excellent! Always a great dining experience!
The appetizers (fried calamari, salads), bread and wine were delicious but the pasta dishes (chicken parm, eggplant parm, carbonara, and cece d peppe) were ho-hum. The service was terrible. I had to help myself to the parmesan cheese and pepper mill at the servers' station - I brought it back to our table so we could all use it. Four dishes were served at once, while the 5th one came out 10 minutes later, and only after we found a waiter to tell him it was missing. (It was luke-warm when it came.) It took a long time to get the check, and I eventually had to take it to the hostess to pay because I didn't want to wait around any longer. While the atmosphere was nice, I was disappointed overall - I had high hopes for the place.
Slow slow slow with unresponsive management.
Our same day reservation to sit n the garden dining room was accepted but not honored due to a private
Party. We sat outside on the street which was a bit noisy
Great neighborhood place. Dine with real New Yorkers.
Worst service ever. One waitress for the entire Garden section. We ordered a bunch of appertizers. The waitress rushed me to order the main entree after I told her that I would like to see after the appertizers. She asked me twice. When I told her I was not ready, she came around and asked my daughter about my entree. What the heck?! I finally ordered to get her off our back. She did not serve us after that. Is her job just to get the orders in. We asked for bread, cheese and a to go container (for my main entree because I couldn't eat that much), we were not attended and had to ask twice. On top of that, they added 20% for service charge. What service?
Book club gathering.
My group was very happy! Food was great and garden room was perfect on a day like today
Café Arte is beautiful inside, spotless, not crowded although full as tables are well spaced. Service was very good and food was delicious. Has been a neighborhood stalwart for years…. Zucchini fritti was delicious. Pasta dishes all yummy and salads fresh… Perfect place for a family dinner, date , pre Lincoln Center or even a drink at the bar…
I always enjoy this neighborhood gem. Will continue to visit.
Food was delicious, with everything cooked to order. Even the bread came straight from the oven.
Service was professional and friendly.
Service was exceptional. Lots of seating options, sidewalk, garden, indoors. Food was ok, nothing spectacular, but decent for a neighborhood place.
Service took a little longer than usual this time, but still overall a great experience
The service here was terrible. We sat outside and the waiter seemed to be handling too many tables, forgetting things over and over again. The food is fair, but they have good bread which you must ask for if you want it for your table.
One of the best Italian menus I’ve experienced, and I’m old.
Orchiette with sausage, rabe, cherry tomato — Devine!!! Worth the trip.
Also very good grilled calamari appetizer.
Good but dare I say not as good as advertised on Open Table; Yelp 3.0 more accurate. Just not that special in a town filled with Italian treasure restaurants thus, too many great Italian options in NYC to return here.
Previous visits food was better. Also will now avoid the Garden. While very pleasant atmosphere, noise level much too loud. Back to the. Street for outdoor dining
Great outdoor patio
Trying to be fair here during the pandemic - so many restaurants are hurting for chefs and staff. But this was especially disappointing. The margheretta pizza for appetizer was fine. But the entrees - pasta with ricotta and eggplant, chicken Parmesan and grilled calamari salad - were no better than any diner. The calamari was so rubbery, and the salad so soggy, that it was truly inedible and had to be sent back. Waitstaff was apologetic and did remove it from the bill. We used to like Arte Cafe. Won’t be going back.
Worst service ever. No one ever came to the table. Had to literally go to the hostess to get any help 45 min later. Avoid this place.
Used to be great. Made a reservation on a Jewish holiday knowing that would assure a parking spot outside and quieter inside. Called before arriving to say I may be late, but was left on hold for 25 minutes. I disconnected the call after the long wait.
The service was not great considering it was quite. Seemed very unpolished, didn’t refill waters nor offer bread. Our food was not as good as used to be. My calamari was served cold and the ceaser salad over dressed . My steak was expensive - not worth the money, the spinach seemed like a frozen store brand, not fresh by any means, it was bland BUT the fries were very good, like they used to be.
I don’t mind spending money especially for a special occasion. We looked forward to the evening out. I have to say I feel taken advantage of and disappointed and embarrassed by the fact my quest said they saw a big mouse running by the base board. So, I won’t be going back EVER. ☹️
Arte has been one of my favorite neighborhood restaurants for many years. I am so happy they have survived the pandemic. Last evening's meal with friends was truly celebratory. The food, as always, was wonderful and the service was excellent. We sat in the garden, very quiet, nice atmosphere
Great neighborhood place! We go often and always enjoy ourselves.
it’s my go to place
the food is always good and reasonably priced
The service was almost non-existent and the food was over-cooked and brought out while we we still having our salad. We event could find the waitress for our check! I've been there in the past and it was good. 👍 This was terrible except for the outdoor garden space.
We go to Arte frequently and when not sitting outdoors, like to sit in the patio, because it's (usually) fairly quiet and lovely. Not so last night!!
There was a party of 14 middle aged men sitting not far from us who made so much noise with their yelling and cheering that a party of 10 people also sitting nearby asked to be moved to indoor seating!! That this loud, in considerate party of 14 wasn't given or asked to sit in a private area was so unacceptable to me and my husband and friends, all of whom are in our 70s and 80s and were hoping to have a lovely, quiet meal together. If they weren't asked to move to a private area, the owner should have at least asked them to keep down the noise and didn't. Our dinner was, unfortunately, less enjoyable because of it. There were more than 14 other people (the rest of the diners in the patio) who were annoyed and inconvenienced by these men's boisterous behavior.
I wish I could give 0 stars. Avoid at all costs. TLDR, horrible service, terrible food, and absolutely tragic management.
To start, the “Garden” was an enclosed brick room with a junky clear plastic roof, crammed with noisy birthday parties and kids running around. We asked to move outside.
Once there, it took 15 minutes for a waiter even to come to us, 15 more minutes to get drinks, and 15 more minutes to get cold (and totally disappointing) appetizers (avoid the arancini and meatballs - both are horrible. But also just never go here).
We didn’t get our entrees until an hour and 30 minutes after we got there and only could get one drink and two horrible appetizers in that time. The entrees were cold, so we refused to accept them.
Server was total absent and multiple tables near us had to go up to the hostess to ask for help.
I asked to speak with the owner who had moved from the front to hiding in the back due to so many tables complaining. When I told him we were having an awful experience, he quibbled with me about the temperature of our entrees.
I get that it’s COVID, everyone is short staffed, etc. but this is truly the WORST NYC dining experience I’ve ever had. EVER. And the very worst part was the owner/manager who was completely unwilling to take responsibility.
For future potential patrons’ sake, I hope this atrocity of New York dining goes the way of the dodo bird and we can have a better option in its place on the UWS.
Always a good time at Arte. Happy to see this neighborhood institution thriving.
This was my first visit to Arte Cafe. I was pleased to see that I was required to wear a mask and that my vaccination status was checked upon arrival! I started my meal with a margarita and asked that it be made sweet. When it was served, the woman waiting on me asked if it was sweet enough. It was very nice that she asked it was satisfactory. When I told her it was not, she promptly made a new one that was wonderful! I ordered the crab cakes over mushroom hot salad and found it very tasty. For dessert I had the chocolate lava cake with vanilla ice cream. It was warm and wonderful. At each serving, I was asked if the dish was satisfactory. The service was warm and attentive. The restaurant offered indoor seating as well as an attached covering seating area and a detached one on the sidewalk. Lots of options!
For a local neighborhood restaurant, the food was surprisingly good. I had a mixed salad first and a pasta dish. Delicious! Great service. Sat in the covered patio in the back of the restaurant with two friends and we had a great time. Will definitely return.
Good food. Good drink. Good conversations. Ate outside and a bit removed to an area with a table of six. Waiter was still attentive. Definitely recommend and will return.
Request for outdoor seating honored
Table for eight waiting for us
Combination of the fried calamari and Caesar salad with a bottle of red wine was a good start. Followed up with pasta and chicken served perfectly. Service was very attentive and professional.
Great food and service. Like everything in the City, restaurant food has gotten really expensive. Otherwise, I love this place
