On visiting NYC once a year I am compelled to revisit this buzzy restaurant with it’s delicious food, great ambiance & friendly, helpful waiters .
We were seated near an outside door and were cold for a while. Service was ok, but food was quite good. It is a 7 block walk to Lincoln Center, so it is convenient. I will be back as it is considerably better than some other places we have eaten prior to the curtain.
Arte Cafe offers everything you want and need from a good restaurant rather than to "be on trend". Great location, inviting and comfortable atmosphere: smart but not stuffy, superb service and fresh, Italian food made with care and high high standards. Recommended for locals and visitors alike.
New Neighborhood Favorite!
Sat in the rear over flow room which made us feel abit disconnected from the main Dining area .service was very good .we all had wine and dessert and were very happy with it choices .would def return
Great food, excellent choices, friendly staff, pleasant ambience, keep going back.
Consistent quality at good prices. Great pre-theater value. No fuss, no muss. No music to interrupt long awaited conversations with friends. Adult friendly restaurant. Might have had one bad meal over a 30 year span. The bar is in a separate room for those who care about handcrafted cocktails.
There food is text book perfect! There grilled octopus dish is better then the ones I had in Italy. The linguini and clams is the best I’ve ever had. The chicken and veal parm are perfection. Pastas cooked al dente and the new bartender makes amazing cocktails! They have indoor and outdoor space and on top of all this the price for manhattan and the quality is so fair! We LOVE this restaurant!
Always a terrific place whether for lunch or dinner.
We went there on New Years Day. The steak was tough and grizzled with fat. It was ordered medium rare but was virtually raw. The lamb shank was also very fatty. Both were covered in thick gravy in hopes that the real appearance of this food wouldn't scare you off. The price of drinks was off the chart even otherwise relatively cheap wines. This restaurant was once just a relatively inexpensive local spot. Now they're charging very upscale prices for very low scale food. This place is definitely off our list.
We chose Arte Cafe for NYE and could not have been happier with our decision. Everything was perfect and the food was delicious.
Pase fin de año en familia , excelente . Todo , recomendable
Wonderful experience on a very busy night (New Year's Eve) Our special guests also had a great time. Staff was exceptionally nice--other restaurants could learn from this! Food was well prepared, generous portions and excellent value. We are coming back soon.
We frequent Arte Cafe and typically love the food on their regular menu and have had great service. This year we decided to go for NYE and their 4 course prix fixe and I left feeling underwhelmed. First, the waiter brought us the wrong bottle of wine and didn’t show it before pouring (thankfully it wasn’t a more expensive bottle!). I thought each course was pretty meh. Waiter didn’t ask how we wanted the steak cooked and mine came out basically still alive. At the end of the meal the waiter brought the check and we inquired about the glass of Prosecco that is included in the prix fixe and his response was “Oh, yeah. Did you want that?” The place wasn’t any more crowded than it is normally but hopefully it was just a fluke.
Cannot beat Arte Cafe's food quality for the price, best value to food quality in Italian on the UWS.
We love Arte’s and try to eat there every time we come to NY. Our meals were delicious, especially the Branzino! Wonderful bread, good service, inviting atmosphere and reasonable noise level.
I recently reviewed Arte Cafe and gave it a 5-star rating. I have to subtract at least 2 stars. Four of us dined there Saturday, December 29. We asked for a bottle of their California Chardonnay (the only CA Chardonnay they had on the menu). We were told they did not have any. We then asked for a bottle of Pinot Grigio; again, we were told they did not have any.
I asked to see the manager and identified myself as a very long-time diner at their restaurant (my husband I have been going there since they opened). I expressed my disappointment that they did not have either our first or second wine choice. The manager was very apologetic but not very helpful. We settled for a Sauvignon Blanc, which was meh.
Extremely disappointed with management's reaction, which was exactly zero. I would have thought, given our long history, the manager would have comped us a round of drinks. They did bring over a delicious little chocolate-flavored aperitif, which we enjoyed and appreciated.
I would have made a run to a local liquor store and picked up some Chardonnay and Pinot for my customers. Alternate choices were nil.
Bar is excellent as well
The food was very good and the portions substantial. Other reviews said the service wasn't great but we found the service to be fine. Several in the group brought some food home. Over all, I would go back.
Great ambiance and restaurant . I highly recommend it.
Very enjoyable, great food, excellent service. Very nice staff.
I have been to New York three times and each time I go out of my way to eat at this little gem which was suggested by a long time local. They had a great lunch menu that went on into the afternoon. We had a lovely starter, main course, and dessert, for less than twenty dollars each. Great house wine as well!
The food was good. We did have an issue with the French fries being cold but besides that everything was delicious and we were all happy. The service is super slow. Don’t eat here if you’re in a rush and need your food pronto. After 45 minutes I had to ask someone passing by to check on our order. Not sure what happened to the waitress who took our order but we never saw her again. I still like this restaurant despite the slow service and cold fries. They are very pleasant and try hard.,
The food was just OK, I don’t think I would be going back any time soon.
Holiday show & dinner
Great place for a work holiday lunch. Everyone really enjoyed the food and atmosphere!
Food is OK, BUT because of such consistently bad service and loud noise levels hard to enjoy.
Such a shame, since it could be a neighborhood Gem with the proper attention to details.
Arte Cafe is an excellent spot for a meal with family or friends. Good service, varied menu. Food is terrific!
A family brunch on Sunday near Christmas. We had a hard time finding a table for 8 at the last minute, and were happy that Arte Cafe was available. The place is enormous and does good business but was not full. We were seated promptly, waited on appropriately, provided decent food, and had a very good time.
Arte Café never fails to please. Made a last minute reservation, and even though they were hosting a large party, we still got a seat (granted we got there early) before the place filled up on a Thursday night. Great food, very nice staff who work hard to make sure the customer is happy.
Great service and an abundant menu! Probably the best Italian I've had in a while. Multi-generational--saw couples and extended families. Very warm and comfortable restaurant.
It was great!
Food and service have always been excellent. Tables far enough apart that you can actually have a conversation. Their 3 course menu for $18 is one of the best values on the UWS. I think its goes from noon until 6
Our "go to" place for pre theater.
Food is so authentic and delicious!
I do not understand Arté and their policy of playing music while the dining room is already terrible noisy. No one was enjoying this ambience The service was not great. We had to ask for the Parmesan cheese and pepper twice. Meanwhile, one waiter was constantly refilling our water glasses. My party of 4 just found the noise unbearable and when we asked them to turn down the volume, the waiter said "it isn't loud."
We went on a Monday at 6:30 PM in early December. Half the restaurant was being used for a holiday party so they took us out the door, walked us down the street and entered the dining area by another door. Waited a bit and the waiter came. We placed ordered wine and then placed our dinner order. Soup (broccoli puree) came after a bit and was tasty and served piping hot. Finished that, plates were cleared and then waited for our entrees, and we waited and waited. Unfortunately our waiter had disappeared so we continued to wait. He finally made a re-appearance, I flagged him down and asked what was the delay. He ascribed it to the party which he was helping to serve but would check on our order. Then we waited, finally after 45 minutes the entrees arrived and while they were good (even though the pork chop parmigana was pounded too thin and as a result was dry) we were too annoyed so it was impossible to enjoy them.
It did not seem as though other tables were having the same experience so it seems like we had the misfortune of arriving at the exact wrong time and having the exact wrong waiter (he had told us earlier that he was new at the restaurant).
I had looked forward to dinner at this restaurant based on the prior reviews and the location but was very disappointed. We were pressed for time so I could not speak with anyone at the restaurant that night, but I did send an e-mail to them the following day but no response as yet. All of the ratings took a hit due to the incredibly poor service and lack of attention which essentially ruined the entire meal.
I've been going to Arte Cafe for about 20-years. I love it! Great food and reasonable prices. Accidentally I inputed the wrong date in Open Tables for the reservation for celebrating my friend's birthday. Even though the restaurant was crowded, they made a place for my friend and me. Saving the day. Thank you!
the food is always reliable although the service is always spotty. if that were improved, it would be so welcome. always enjoy the eggplant parmigiana and there is a good wines by the glass selection.
Very noisy at Sunday brunch. Too warm at table in the rear. But food was very, very good. Would definitely return for lunch during the week.
