Arte Cafe Ratings and Reviews
A wonderful meal in this very charming restaurant. On some occasions, the restaurant has been quite crowded and a little noisy but our reservation at 6.30 insured a less crowded space
and a very relaxing atmosphere. I am a regular diner here and so happy that we on the Upper West Side have this restaurant as a neighborhood staple. (and they have a great prix-fixe menu before 6PM)
As a convenient neighborhood restaurant, Arte is fine. It's not fine dining, and the food is satisfactory. If you're looking for a great dining experience, this probably won't be for you.
If you're looking for a restaurant that's comfortable and located nearby Arte will serve.
Rude service before dinner at bar and during dinner at table. I should have listen to the reviews. OMG - this group in this restaurant simply does not care about its clients. It's like they belong in an amusement park and figure customer will only be there once. I think they must have a competition among the employees on who can be the rudest and less caring . The place is very nice inside but the service is hideous and everyone is rude. The upper west side has so many nice restaurants that work hard to have you as a customer - believe me you will regret stepping foot on this establishment.
We had a very nice New Years Day brunch. The only hiccup was when I asked the server if they could substitute a side salad for hash browns in the steak and eggs and they said the kitchen could not do that. I brought this up to the manager who was very friendly and he fixed it immediately.
We were a group of 8 on New Years Eve and were seated in the adjoining restaurant area.
Artes was very accommodating to allow some of us to order ala carte and others from the New Year s Eve prix fixe menu.
For a reasonable price of $60, the 4 course Dinner plus champagne was very tasty food and an excellent value.
Also, close to midnight, the staff handed out noise-makers, hats, lais and made it a very festive New Years Eve.
The only problem, and it was a big one, was that the manager Mark, would not lower the music in the separate dining area . He kept saying it was New Years Eve, as if that's a reason to have awful loud disco, head- banging music while you're eating. Mind you, we were not in the bar and he could've tried a different variety of music.
Nevertheless , it was a festive, tasty, happy new year celebration at Arte Cafe.
Hadn't been to Arte in a number of years, and decided to give it another whirl - very pleased that we did! The menu has been updated and there's a great variety of dishes. The lasagna was delicious! The bar area has a nice new feel to it, now with high-tables. Great ambience overall and happy with the service. Looking forward to going again soon!
My 2 friends and I met for lunch. Arte Cafe has a great prix fixe lunch: $15 for appetizer, main course, and dessert. Only one dessert offered, but there are many apps and mains to choose from. The food was good, but for us, the best part was the amount of time we were allowed to linger. We spent a lovely three hours there. It is really a great venue to meet friends and talk the day away.
Service was beyond terrible, which was too bad because the food was terrific and it would have been a perfect dinner. It was XMas eve and we had the pasta with squid ink and lobster special. A little heavy on the salt, but yummy! Maybe the holiday had them short staffed?
We always go to Arte Cafe when we visit New York City. It's a warm, friendly neighborhood atmosphere.
The food is delicious. I had the special which was chicken breast
stuffed with cheese & spinach.
My husband always has the lasagna which is very moist & meaty.
The prices of the food & wine are very reasonable for New York.
we asked if we could move to a quieter spot....we were 2 people on a date sandwhiched between several large parties...2 of which had little and loud children. they moved us, slightly, but not out of that room...and we were still next to loud children and large groups. But the food here never disappoints me.
arte cafe has expanded its space to include a new room and many more tables, which is not a problem in itself -- the problem (i think) is that they have not developed their staffing to keep up with it. in any case, dinner service was loud and chaotic during our most recent visit. we had a reservation (of course) but had a long wait for a table, and another long wait to have our order taken. during these periods, we had ample opportunity to hear similar complaints from the customers around us, and to watch the staff running around in a flustered way and snapping at each other. one seemed close to tears. we live in the neighborhood and have been customers of arte cafe for many years, and we hope that the new(ish) management can work out these snags.
We did not know they had a price-fixed menu that at $15 was amazing...appetizer, main dish and dessert. The service was wonderful but as foodies I could say I was not satisfied...if this was the norm. However, for the price and for most people, it would be an affordable and pleasant dining experience.
