The staff was wonderful and the food terrific. The menu ranged from affordable, to some pricy items. I love seafood, and their grilled octopus was the most tender I've ever had. I like how the Asado Argentino had 4 different meats to sample.
The only negative were it was loud because it's a big open space that fits a lot of people, most of whom were talking, and even shouting. It wouldn't be so bad if my girlfriend and I weren't also there for a show and had a hard time hearing the singer. That evening they had a flamenco dancer dancing to a singer accompanied by a guitarist. They were amazing. The second negative was that from time to time other diners stood up by the stage to get a better view and take pictures/videos, which was distracting and rude because they often blocked our view. I don't think the staff should allow that.
Overall, it was a good experience, and we'll be back to try other things on the menu.
Amazing time. Brought girlfriend here for her birthday. Food and service was great and the show was awesome.
Artango was a fabulous restaurant. Everyone loved their food and the dining experience. We will be coming back to this restaurant soon.
Great service and food! Definitely must try TRÍO DE CEVICHE. Desserts where also delicious!
Bad service really disappointed I didn’t get a chance to order my main dish left very upset
Our waiter was knowledgeable and welcoming. Great atmosphere and very good food. We intend to return soon!
I love going there for dinner and good music. Love when Fareed Harque plays.
Artango has turned into our favorite restaurant for live music. This time it featured a Latin Jazz guiter trio. Music was wonderful, as is the atmosphere. Very romantic for a date or get together with good friends. We had steak and rabbit with empanadas. Cocktails were excellent and we enjoyed watching the bar tender making them. I highly recommend this restaurant.
Disappointed I had put in a request for my parents anniversary so they could do something small but special .. There was absolutely no recognition so what’s the point of the comments Box ?
We went for a birthday dinner, looking for a place to find authentic Argentinian empanadas- they were amazing!! Service was excellent and the restaurant was fun and lively, we will definitely return!
Maybe we just had that rare sub-par experience at a good place. No "starter"bread. Limited menu. Entree portions were small. Asked for a menu to order another item. Waited 15 minutes for the server to come back to the table to take my order. Still willing to recommend because other diners were satisfied.
The food was incredible. I can't wait to come back. I would highly recommend Artango for anyone who wants a delicious meal and a great experience. The live dancing / performances were an unexpected treat too!
Great food! Will definitely go back!
What a great place! Lively vibe, great entetainment and fantastic food. Cocktails take a bit of time to prepare but worth the wait. Overall a really terrific experience.
What Maria has created is amazing! She began as my tango teacher and I’m blown away by how far she’s come.
Great service- we were a party of 10 (six who had never been to this restaurant) with an early reservation and needing to be out the door within 100 minutes. Half the party arrived on time, ordered cocktails and appetizers for the table (which arrived before rest of party). As soon as the latecomers arrived - the server took their drink orders- allowed them time to settle in and came back to explain menu and take dinner orders. Halfway into service- additional staff reported for work (as more diners arrived)--and it was perfect. We all had a second (or third ) drink with dinner and managed to be out the door in time to make the curtain call down in Lincoln Park.
Trio of ceviche was fresh and enjoyed by all- as was the eggplant "caviar". The pickiest steak eaters got what they ordered (medium well, not-garnished)- two couples enjoyed the platters for two- and extra sides were a big hit (asparagus, sweet potato and mashed potato- which also had another veg, cauliflower? in the mash, but very tasty.) Server explained (and reexplained) the choices and sauces in a kind and friendly manner.
Excellent restaurant! Food is fantastic. The service is great! A wonderful place to go.
Excellent meal overall. A little disappointed at the ceveche running out, but happy with the alternatives. a little pricey but worth it for the entertainment and the ambience. Great place!
Valentine’s day. Staff seemed overwhelmed. We were told the kitchen was backed up when our food didn’t come out for a good long while. May be a better option on a quiet night. Apps on prefixed menu left much to be desired. Main entree was much more on point. Get the Sangria.
Our dinner was only ok. Our server was the main issue. We sat down around 8.45p and the menu was a 3 course fixed price selection for Valentine's Day. He took our appetizer order and nothing else. The appetizers came and we weren't checked on or asked about main courses, dessert or drinks for another 45 minutes to an hour. Mind you, our server passed by us at least 6 times, never stopped in to check if we needed anything and barely looked our way.
When he did stop, he said 'your food should be out in just a moment.' My reply was 'that would be amazing seeing that you haven't even taken our main dish order or dessert.' Shocked, he quickly took our order and our food didn't show up for about 45 minutes. We got the food and it was honestly sub par. It was luke warm and nothing special.
Probably won't be going back.
Valentine’s Day dinner
Went there for valentines, the Music was nice but at times too loud. service was a bit slow but relatively nice The food was a big disappointment, it was brought almost raw to us and the restaurant seemed to struggle to handle the full house.
Went for Valentine’s Day. It was so loud we couldn’t even talk because the musicians speakers were turned up too high. Our server barely even spoke to us, turns out he was the bartender and also serving the bar which wasn’t even busy. He forgot our order and never put it in so he had to come back and asked us to what we ordered after finally noticing we didn’t have food. Every time they brought food they took it to the wrong table first. Even put it down at the table next to us and they handed it to us. Steak was over cooked. Worst dining experience in a while. Would not go back and would not recommend.
Our water bottle was taken away and never replaced. Had to keep calling for refills. The valentine meal was rushed. They wanted you in and out.
We live in the neighborhood and this place has slowly become our favorite spot in Lincoln square!
Visited Artango as part of Restaurant Week. The Argentine menu is great if you are looking for something slightly out of the ordinary. Would come back to get a drink and listen to live music.
The food was cold and undercooked. I will not be dining at this restaurant again. I paid $80 for an extremely undercooked and cold steak. The only good thing I ate there was their pear tart.
It was so good, we are bring back 10 people for my Birthday!
Came for Restaurant Week and had great service ! Will ce coming back for another date night for sure
We came on Superbowl Sunday so it was pretty much dead. But the service was great, also was told by our server that they were art of restaurant week. Splendid! Food was great as well.
Fantastic food, service, and live music. Decor is beautiful, but found the noise level surprisingly loud for a room with dim lighting and candles. Definitely worth a visit!
The service was exceptional and first class. Our seats were directly in front of the stage, in which we wondered if it was going to be overpowering, but we were pleased to say it was just perfect. The live performance definitely added a unique experience. For food - the flank steak paired with 4 wedges.; It was okay however, changing the pairing from wedges would possibly add to the meal. The salmon with asparagus and mashed potatoes were great together.
I'm disappointed and I wouldn't recommend until the owners get their act together. One month out, I have reservations for four on a Saturday night at 6:30pm. The hostess leads us to a cramped table in the corner but my wife says it's fine. There were plenty of other four-tops in the restaurant where we could have been placed. We ordered specially cocktails, a bottle of malbec, three salads and an empanada, two sirloin steaks and two flank steaks, plus desserts. The food runner brings the cocktails but he doesn't know who ordered what and he doesn't know what each cocktail is. After several tastes, we got it sorted out. The salads were fine and the empanada was delicious. A different food runner brings two plates and just announces "steaks." I asked "flank or sirloin" but he doesn't speak english, and again doesn't know who ordered what. We determined one was a flank and one was a sirloin but we had know idea of the temperature. The other two steaks then came to the table up for auction. The chimichurri had little or no garlic. And, it was seasoned with curry; not appetizing. My steak was really bad. Instead of striations found on a flank, the meat was a connection of three muscles. But worst of all was a quarter-inch crusting of seasoning salt on the steak. I tried two bites from one side, and one bite from the other. It wasn't flank and the salt literally burned my lip. Without ruining the dinner party, it took 15 minutes to find the waiter. I explained how it was inedible and he looked at me and asked me if I wanted it wrapped to take home. I had to repeat that it was inedible and I asked him to take it away. I regretted later in the night that I tipped 20% because I thought that the problems were mostly the kitchen's fault. However, the server should have been professional and alerted the manager. The problems were the hostess, the food, the runners, the server and the manager. But the blame lays on the owners.
In general, a solid experience. The one complaint I had is the seating -- we made a reservation for 4 on the earlier side due to plans later in the evening. So at 5:30, the space was essentially empty -- however, when seated, we were put up against a wall in a corner so 2 of our party would be staring at a wall behind the other 2. It seemed like a punishment -- a spot held for people not taking the time out to make a reservation. Give the early arrivers a reasonable space .
The environment and menu reflect the South American emphasis. They also have tango dancing and music but it started after we left. Lively environment and attentive services. Tables were too close together for my liking. Steak I had was very good but only came with a few wedges of potatoes--seemed sparse for the price. Salad with beets, chocolate dessert and flan all delicious.
Let's start with positives. The food was very delicious. My boyfriend said his drink was amazing.
However, the service was very poor.
1) Once the waiter realized we weren't going to get more than 1 drink, he never returned, and this was at a time where the restaurant was completely empty. When he did return, he tried to upsell us on more drinks.
2) I asked for water and an additional item with my dessert and it took 20 minutes for him to return. The additional item didn't even have to be cooked. There is no excuse for taking that long.
3) I was celebrating a birthday and engagement in one night and not once did it seem like the waiter cared, or even cared to ask. He was mostly concerned about getting us to spend more money. Will not return.
Went for restaurant week, the food was good though my steak was about 1/3 inedible (fat, gristle, etc.). Others in my group got the same dish and had no issues. Service was good but slow. Overall, still a good meal.
My sister and I were able to visit Artango during Chicago Restaurant Week. I've been looking forward to coming to Artango for a while now and this was the perfect time. The food was excellent. The cocktails were tasty. I will definitely be back!
This was our 2nd visit since they moved from the original location. I had a late reservation however the restaurant was able to accommodate us with a table earlier which was very nice. Overall, the food and drinks and wine were really excellent and I would definitely go back again for dinner. However, the table service was pretty poor, not unfriendly in anyway just very asbsent. After our 2nd course was dropped we didn't see our server again till the end of meal after we had sat with dirty dishes and empty wine glasses for over 15min and we had to request him to come over. He did bring a dessert menu but at that point we were ready to end the meal. It was a Saturday night so the restaurant was very busy and I understand those situations. However, with the amount of ppl they have working on the floor we should not have been left from the time our meal was dropped off for 45min with no one checking on us. Next time I would sit at the bar, the service at the bar is very good.
The service was very, very poor and the food was mediocre at best. This was our first visit—we tried it because of restaurant week. We will not be returning. My flank steak was tough and not prepared well though my husband enjoyed his steak, which I think was sirloin. The appetizers and desserts were tasty but given that the type of restaurant, I expected the beef would be excellent.
