Art and Soul
Helmed by Executive Chef Douglas Alexander, Art and Soul exudes true warmth and hospitality. Playful regional elements such as hand-painted farm signs and traditional folk art are also used throughout the space in honor of the D.C. restaurant's regional influences. In warmer weather, an expansive front patio provides an al fresco dining option with a fire-pit and grill.

I had heard about the Fried Amish Chicken Thighs before I visited and decided to go with those. I was not disappointed! They definitely lived up to the hype. I highly recommend them!
Great good, hearty portions and great service!
Menu for July 4th is limited. Server rushing us to order. Read this online and got good review so we book. There’s nothing special about the pooch patio. Never comeback again.
A great meal and wonderful service.
Wonderful food, attentive staff. If you're paying cash you might have a slight wait for them to make change at the bar. Outdoor seating is great when the weather is nice.
We have been to Art and Soul several times and have always enjoyed our visits. We like the service, the wide variety of menu choices and their presentations. We will return again, the next time we have friends visiting from out of town.
The waiters were friendly and knowledgeable. The food was creative and tasty. The collard greens were amazing, as was the grilled octopus with molé sauce. It was a bit expensive, but then again, this is DC.
I was disappointed that service was slow with no one else in the restaurant. I also didn’t have a spoon to stir my coffee as one was not brought to me, I asked and still never received one. It seemed the server had an attitude when I asked as though it was inconvenient and she was overwhelmed
Absolutely fantastic and creative dishes. Service was perfect. Sitting outside was an added bonus! Enjoy!
There were NOT enough servers at the restaurant and it was evident by how long it took to get drinks (1 of which we never received, but didn't get charged for) or to be checked on. It also took a surprisingly long time to get our food as well, but I'm not sure if that was a kitchen issue. The restaurant was far from busy.
The server we had was kind and the food was good. I saw the restaurant described as southern, but that seemed to have been a bit of a stretch as most of the entrees and starters seemed to be more French-derived.
Love when I eat here..always full and satisfied, never stuffed. I normally get a salad with protein but opted for the fried chicken sandwich and a salad. My colleague got the salmon burger. Art and Soul never disappoints!
Always accommodating. One of the best restaurants in DC with reasonable menu prices.
We sat outside because we had our dog, and they were super nice and welcoming. There is even a puppy menu. The chicken and waffles were delicious, and the lemon pancakes were super fluffy and tangy. Service was great, food was great, no complaints!
Thank you so much for dining with us! We hope to see you again! We love dogs here, and also host a lot of dog events as well!
The food was wonderful and our server was very attentive.
The food was AMAZING. The service was great. The restaurant was kind of loud, but that was just due to two parties. Overall, i would completely recommend this restaurant to anyone!
The food was the star of the restaurant. We had the swordfish which was seasoned and strongly flavored. We ate at the ample outdoor seating where it was pleasantly quiet. Service was great. Our tomato and watermelon salad was superb, really the best salad we've had in a long time! We also had a side of collard greens that turned out to be seasoned with curry and they were fantastic! We will definitely return and we highly recommend this restaurant!
Thank you so much for dining with us! The tomato and watermelon salad is one of our new additions! We hope to see you again!
It is a great place to take your dog! Nice patio! Great menu for dogs too!
I have had dinner twice. Both consistent quality and service. Great waitress this time.
Staff was helpful and friendly. Food very expensive... Not sure why add the ambience was fine but nothing special. Two of our entrees were good. The third was almost inedible.
Horrible service. Had a reservation and had to wait 20 minutes to be seated and then another 20 for our drink order and then another 15 for food. It was ridiculous.
I have eaten at Art and Soul whenever I visit the DC area but this time our waiter was nowhere to be seen and I had a long black hair in my ice tea when it was brought to our table. I ended up giving it to another waitress because our waiter was MIA.
The food for brunch was fine. The only complaint was about the sticky buns - not very gooey.
The menu is quite interesting. Basically it is Southern cuisine done up scale.
The food is delicious! Bloody Marys are good (not very strong, but very tasty). Crab deviled eggs were a hit - actually everything "crab" was good, very sweet and fresh. The vegetarian dishes were good - banana bread - cinnamon rolls. There were 5 of us and we went 2 days in a row for brunch - not disappointed....
Minor problem - bird droppings on the table and the waiter didn't seem inclined to clean the table well. The hostess, however, handled quickly.
Serviceable menu and good service but bare wooden tables with no tablecloths so it felt rather cheap considering the hefty price tag.
Food was tasteless. Absolutely mediocre .,,,
Salmon over cooked, rice too and tasteless but gazpacho was good
Waiter did adequate job with minimal interaction
with tables. Maitre de was friendly
Loud and noisy room so opposite the restaurant’s name! Would NOT return here.
Ordered a drink to which the server substituted for something none of us knew with out informing us. After asking what in fact was given, it was a lower tier red wine with champagne. No where close to what we requested. There was no clear indication to who our server was as multiple people served the table in a scattered inattentive manner. All our following drinks were beyond watered down.
Service was a bit slow. It seemed like they were short staffed but the servers were pleasant and the meal was good.
Great food with very creative ingredients! I would absolutely recommend it to anyone!!
Not the go to spot if you are looking for large portions, seared scallops dinner got me 3 of them, but what we did have was good
Enjoyed both the salad and the chickpea-black bean burger.
Simply put, don’t attend for brunch. The chicken and waffles were horrible. The chicken was heavily breaded and dry. The waffles were so dry my daughter took one taste and cast it aside. The crab deviled eggs were okay, but could’ve been better if they weren’t too heavy on the mustard and the over garnish of scallions. There’s scallions in almost everything, and I mean everything. As a grits lover, I could barely enjoy it because of the scallions in it. The coffee was also lukewarm. On a more positive note, I will say that the potatoes were great. But honestly that was literally it. In conclusion, I was disappointed that we chose to go there. I hope they make the necessary changes because this restaurant could be so much better.
My family visited on Mother's Day. Unfortunately 2 of my sons were caught in the heavy rain & traffic. The 1st hostess had my wife & son wait in the hotel lobby until they arrived. After speaking to the 2nd hostess, she was generous and had us seated. The service wasn't bad as the orders were prepared quicker than expected. I will say the chicken & waffles were not what my sons expected. To their surprise the peppery chili maple glaze syrup was not what they expected. The farmers' breakfast was simple but tasty.
Art and Soul was right across the street from our hotel so it was an easy choice. We were very pleasantly surprised at how good the food was. Everything we had was exceptional. The wait staff was very attentive. I would love to eat here again and highly recommend it.
Everything was just perfect, wait staff were very friendly and the food was amazing
This is a good vacation restaurant. It has a good selection of brunch foods, which is the only meal I ate.
Very good food in a very pleasant place. Service was excellent. Overall very good, but the prices are high.
Nice place for a good brunch that's very tasty. SErvice was great.
