Art and Soul
Helmed by Executive Chef Douglas Alexander, Art and Soul exudes true warmth and hospitality. Playful regional elements such as hand-painted farm signs and traditional folk art are also used throughout the space in honor of the D.C. restaurant's regional influences. In warmer weather, an expansive front patio provides an al fresco dining option with a fire-pit and grill.

The only misstep was the way they served the devilled eggs. Need to be on a bed of something so they don't slide around. However, everything else was exceptional. Loved the duck confit.
Great food and service!
Cocktail not exactly right (I have been drinking and mixing negronis for years), burger was tasty but greasy—I had heartburn for the rest of the day.
The food was delicious! Service was very good, too. I️ was worried when we arrived because the restaurant was pretty empty for 7:30 on a Saturday night. But we were very happy with the whole experience!
My husband and I enjoyed our visit to Art and Soul. The food was truly unique, colorful and delicious without being too heavy. I had the scallops and my husband had the pork and kimchi ragu. In addition to great food, our server Kenya was fantastic!
Great place to while away time before catching the train. Unrushed atmosphere. Food was good not great, but coffee was unlimited!! Staff very courteous and attentive.
Poor service. This place used to be so busy and there was hardly anyone there this time. It has potential to get back to being the “place to eat” but not with service like I had tonight.
Convenient to our hotel and recommended by my son who lives in DC, it was a very nice meal with excellent service. The interior had a nice decor, but it was a little loud and quite cold inside. Overall an enjoyable experience.
Food was INCREDIBLE!! The staff was so sweet and attentive.
I did not enjoy my experience at this restaurant because my server was not the best and the food was not what I expected. The lemon pancakes were good but the menu implies the berries are included in the price but it’s 1.00 and this is misleading. Second the geechie boy grits were not good. The pork sausage was bigger than a corn dog and not cooked throughly.
Delicious food! It was a little dark sitting out on the patio, but overall a nice place!
Excellence food. Great ambience! Will recommend to anyone.
Up from Charlottesville for theater at Wooly Mammoth and some Capitol area sites. Great location for both and excellent dinner and breakfast prior to both.
Beautiful evening to sit outside on patio
Perfect amount of attention from server! She was exceptional! Food was good dessert really good and just the right amount. Cocktail was very refreshing.
Overall enjoyed the evening very much
What a wonderful restaurant! Food and service was spot on. Sat outside and it was a perfect evening.
Great food and atmosphere. Love that they’re dog friendly.
The experience at Art and Soul was amazing. The food, drinks and service were fabulous. I will definitely return to try another meal.
delicious brunch as always. Suggest you feature or recommend the chef-cured bacon.
Excellent food every time I eat there
Always great food and service
Excellent experience, surprised it wasn’t more crowded on a Friday night. Food was outstanding
Server was pleasant however I have a huge thing about putting my mouth on restaurant glasses and requested a straw but they no longer carry them in the restaurant. Also I selected this restaurant due to the s’mores French toast on their website but was told it had been discontinued for over 6 months. That was very disappointing.
The food was so incredible. Our waitress Kenya was the best. I will absolutely return!
We enjoyed our meal! The menu had some very interesting options. I asked for a slight change to a menu item, the chef obliged and my meal was excellent! Our waiter, Vernon, was phenomenal!
I couldn’t stand the smile of then restaurant and the coffee cup had lipstick on it... I refused to go any further. Was not a great experience.
Great restaurant but a bit small as it is attached to a hotel. Making a reservation was easy uaing open tanle and there was availability if you book early enough. Came here for restaurant week and it was superb. Everyrhing from the greeting to the delivery of the check was swift. Drinks are pricey but it is Dc, what do you expect? I had the baby earth and greens salad and it was really good. The sirloin steak was a great cut of meat and the green beans were smothered in a tomato sauce (never had beans like this but will definitely try it again) and the fried potato puffs were to die for. Who doesnt like fried potatoes?! The dessert I chose was carrot cake it was a bit dense and it is not fluffy which is what I prefer, sort of like a bread density. The icing was not super sweet and had a nice ginger flavor. Waiter was kind and polite and didn't bother us. Will definitely come back!!! Near the capital building and about a 10 min walk from archives. Ubering is best as the sidewalk becomes limited closer you get to capital building. There is also outdoor seating!
I went to Art and Soul for Restaurant Week and loved it. The ambiance was lovely, the service was phenomenal and the food was delicious! I would definitely come back and would totally recommend.
Went for restaurant week lunch 2019. The the first course salad was delicious. Unfortunately, that was the best part of the meal. I ordered the fried chicken thighs and it was not that good. The mash potatoes were good. My friend ordered the veggie burger and didn't like it much. When the waiter, who knew we were frequently customers, saw that we didn't eat much of the entree, he insisted on telling his manager about our dissatisfaction. We told him there was no need but a few seconds later the manager came and offered us another entree. When we declined, he told us we would only have to pay for the salad. It was so nice! For dessert we both ordered the carrot cake. Let's just say, I'm glad we didn't hv to pay for it. It was all cream cheese with little cake. Historically the food is good so hopefully it was just an off day. Nevertheless, the service made up for our meal.
We chose Art and Soul SOLELY for the pooch patio. We were so excited to buy our furry friend steak so he can 'fine dine'. About 15 minutes AFTER we ordered our food, we were told that the only thing they had available from the Pooch Patio menu were the popsicles (no beef and gravy, no steak, nothing)....... such a disappointment. The food was subpar and we definitely would've rather spent our money elsewhere for food.
Happy Hour 7 days 3-7! Fantastic... fried green tomatoes 😊crab deviled eggs 😀. Three cheese sampler 😇. Great entree. Lamb merguza with pistachio dukkah. 😊. Great dessert menu. Ganache tort, superb. Bread pudding, 😇. Great friendly service.
Art & Soul indeed abound here--super waiter took good care of our business dinner.
Simpel food was ok but certainly overpriced
Table an chair worn out
Service was ok but not in accordance with the the image of star restaurant
We were a party of four, three of whom had never been to the restaurant before. From the reception to the end of our meal, we were warmly received and treated royally. Each of us had a different meal and we sampled each other's food. To a person, we enjoyed our individual selection and the selection of everyone else. As the organizer of the get-together, I could not have been happier. Kudos to our initial waiter and to his replacement. Art and Soul would do well to retain these gentlemen.
Took our two dogs and could not have had a better experience. Vernon, our waiter, was incredibly friendly and patient, with prompt service for us and the dogs. The special dog menu was amazing - they literally got a steak meal for a great price. Our meals were delicious as well. Would definitely recommend.
Only real complaint is my daughter's food. She ordered steak and egg breakfast. Steak was well done, dry and chewy and not medium well as she requested. Scrambled egg looked like it was scrambled once with the spatula and turned over like a pancake. Lumpy with large cheese squares dotted throughout. My veggie bean burger was good but my preference would be more pickled onions. I should have asked for more on the side. Ambiance was great.
Salads are usually spot on. Yesterday’s were not great. Salmon is usually spot on but was way too raw and the skin not even crisped. Disappointing visit, but they are usually not like this so will be back. Service is always very good.
Yes, the ambiance is energetic and it's decorated nicely.
Food seemed to taste better and portion sizes more reasonable than my previous experiences here. Good service, but a caution to those with parties of six or more. Be aware that an 18% gratuity is automatically added to your bill, but our waiter did not alert us to that. So we inadvertently tipped 20% on top of that. Won't make that mistake again.
Had a great time and meal. We hadn’t seen each other in a long time so it was nice that we weren’t rushed.
The food, the service and the setting are great. We go to Art and Soul for brunch when friends from out of town come to visit and for special occasions. The lemon pancakes and the crab omelette are outstanding!
