Owner and managing partner, Monica Saxena, envisioned aRoqa to be a celebration of diversity and culture, merging Indian flavors with a global palate and cocktail culture. aRoqa’s menu unites diverse flavors inspired by its name: in India, a “roka” ceremony is where friends and family come together to enjoy the engagement of a couple and celebrate by sharing a meal.
At aRoqa, Chef Manni and head mixologist Prasad have created a unique marriage of cuisine and cocktails in a chic, sophisticated setting, to create an elevated experience, focusing on small plates with Indian flavors.
home style lamb curry with a blend of hand ground spices
Chicken Tikka Masala
tandoor oven cooked chicken in creamy, mildly spiced curry sauce
long gained basmati rice, fresh herbs and spices served with yogurt raita
Excellent as usual
It was my birthday, and the service and food could not have been more perfect! It is a bit pricey, but that’s their prerogative! It’s easy to rack up the prices because the plates are small and SO good!
My wife says they have the best Dal Makhani in NYC...I agree. The lamb chops were incredible. We also shared Palak Paneer which was very good. Everything was so enjoyable. I only wish we ordered one more plate...next time.
Even in such times they provide awesome experience
Outdoor seating post covid isn't the best. Not a great choice for a breezy/ cold day. Food served wasn't hot but taste is amazing!!
The best chicken tikka masala I have ever had. Such amazing service.
Never disappoints.... from the creative cocktails, amazing selection & yummy food. I had dessert last night- hazelnut ice cream drizzled with chocolate served in a glass... so good!
And my favorite part, excellent service. Attentive, natural & welcoming... they have also set table dividers between each table...a great restaurant in chelsea....reservations suggested...
Great food & service. Plenty of interesting things on the menu that you won’t necessarily find at other Indian restaurants. Drinks were also good.
Outdoor dining set up was a little tight, but still safe (e.g., dividers between tables + servers wearing masks).
The food was amazing and the staff was super friendly.
This is very good Indian food. There is sufficient selection, and the preparation was very good. Dining was out of doors to comply with current public health concerns, so that had to be dealt with, but they have separated tables with plexiglass, and seating is comfortable. But the star is the food.
Sebastian is a star🌟
Aroqa is must stop when we visit NYC. Service and food was excellent as always! Thank you
I've passed this place hundreds of times and for some reason had never gone in. I was craving Indian and needed a place with outdoor seating. We sat in the cute outdoor area divided by clean plexiglass - our server arrived with a mask and face shield and offered us hand sanitizer, so that was all great. What I wasn't expecting was next level Indian food. OMG the food is so delicious and well presented. We ordered a bunch of small plates, all interesting and diverse but with the flavors of India. Every single item we loved. Highly recommend this cute place in Chelsea.
I don't really like Indian food but my girlfriend does. This place is very tasty and unique enough for both of us. I think we've eaten there like 4 times in the past 2 months and it's always been fantastic. The cocktail list is particularly excellent.
Our server Sebastian was a real treat. The food is delicious and one of our go to spots in Chelsea for Indian although a bit on the pricier side. Decent sidewalk patio with barriers right now during the summer in COVID.
aRoqa is a gem. They’ve done a wonderful job creating an outdoor space that is safe and comfortable for dining in the age of COVID. Their food is delicious, and their service is top-notch. We had our first meal out since early March for our 24th anniversary, and our waiter Sebastian made it really special. Highly recommended!
The reservation was 4 people at 645 pm, we showed up around 630. At 8 pm the restaurant had multiple people come to us and politely told us to leave the restaurant because they had another reservation for the table and that group was waiting. This is a first experience where we were thrown out of the restaurant because there was another reservation that had showed up.
The food was great! Daulat ki chaat was an experience. Sebastian was great and took care of us. He also accommodated our requests with extra pieces in the menu.
Loved the fact that they had hand sanitizers.
All in all it was a fun evening with awesome food!
Only dining option was outdoor so that is what we did. There was plexiglass between tables which was good . Waiter was very attentive. Appetizers the kebab, 2 types of chicken and the bhel chaat were all good . As were the biryani, chicken tikka masala, daal and okra in the main course. Cocktails were all delicious. Overall a very enjoyable meal.
The food is exceptional. I can’t wait to go back.
One of the best, tastiest Indian food I've had in NYC. The waiter was very nice to us and the food just delicious. I had a chicken fenugreek and the sauce was wonderful and the chicken in very nice little chunks- not too much, not too little. My girlfriend had shrimp in a coconut curry and it was also very good. We split mushroom croquettes for appetizers and the only downside was that there wasn't more of it. A little bit pricey but so worth it. I definitely want to go back there and will recommend it to others. Bravo.
Excellent food with great service at a reasonable price for the area. Highly recommend to any Indian food lover! Must go back!!
Last minute birthday dinner because of rain on Saturday and no indoor seating. Easily some of the best Indian food I’ve ever had. The service was awesome. The location is a 15 minute walk away from both the highline and Hudson River park/Chelsea piers so we got to go on a nice walk after.
Very good experience, amazing food
Excellent food and service
The food here was excellent as was the service. However, I don’t think I’ve encountered a restaurant as stingy with their portions yet overpriced to the max ever in New York. $14 for 4 little florets of fried cauliflower. No bueno. The place was lovely, but I will not be returning as there are countless Indian restaurants In NYC with amazing food at a much more reasonable price point.
Amazing food and great service! Been there 10 times already and we have never been disappointed.
Lively and delicious and really fun.
We keep coming back and are always happy.
Everything great. Just wish you'd play your music lower and something more fitting to the
ambience and not that pounding music. Otherwise, all was excellent. Maybe it can be shut
off in the back room.
The atmosphere is calm and matches the dark colors and black themes across the dining room. The wait staff was very friendly, patient and exited to answer any questions concerning the menu. The food was excellent and the portions were perfect. I look forward to enjoying an evening out at aRoqa again.
Table was ready, too close to other tables. Kitchen was very very slow. We were almost 4 diners in the restaurant, came early, and entrees took almost 45 mins to be served. Food quality was very good. Didn't stay for dessert.
Fantastic food, fantastic service, we will be back!
The food was fresh and good, not great. It was around the corner, so it was easy, but I wouldn't go out of my way. The wine menu was very small and expensive.
Comfortable and delicious. Perfect spot to escape the chaos!
Amazing food. More than just traditional Indian cuisine. Will definitely be back!
Made res for 3 people for Valentine’s Day. Originally told only have tables for 2 but then accommodated with high top for 3 by the window. Was a fabulous evening!
It was absolutely perfect. Incredible food with great ambiance
Appetizers were served within a couple of minutes of ordering and were almost cold, like they were prepared ahead of time. The entree and bread was good. Disappointed that they were out of a couple of menu items we were hoping to taste. Eventually the service took a back seat with having to wait 20 minutes to just get the check.
Great food ... great service! The ambiance was welcoming and romantic! The food was truly authentic
So many issues here:
1) I do not appreciate being told by a rather rude hostess that we had only 90 minutes to dine (we had a reservation)--I have never been told that in a Manhattan restaurant unless there were specific seatings.
2) there's a minimal wine list with nothing I would drink
3) I ordered a Manhattan cocktail and asked for it to be not very sweet and on the rocks. It arrived without out and was revoltingly sweet
4) my friend ordered a mango lhassi which was undrinkable
4) the appetizers were beautifully served by rather bland--they looked innovative but really were not
5) we were not halfway through the appetizers when we were brought the two main courses! (Nothing like being rushed.) We said we weren't ready and recieved a rather huffy response
6) I lived on the Indian subcontinent for 5 years and I know and appreciate good Indian food. The main courses tasted like someone had emptied a full salt container into them--you couldn't taste any spices, just salt!
The restaurant is obviously popular and maybe we hit an off night. That said, I'll never return to a place where I am told that my dining time is limited. That kind of rudeness does not exist in India and I was shocked that it exists in an Indian restaurant in NYC. They really should be embarrassed (but I suppose not).
