Owner and managing partner, Monica Saxena, envisioned aRoqa to be a celebration of diversity and culture, merging Indian flavors with a global palate and cocktail culture. aRoqa’s menu unites diverse flavors inspired by its name: in India, a “roka” ceremony is where friends and family come together to enjoy the engagement of a couple and celebrate by sharing a meal.
At aRoqa, Chef Manni and head mixologist Prasad have created a unique marriage of cuisine and cocktails in a chic, sophisticated setting, to create an elevated experience, focusing on small plates with Indian flavors.

I recommend this restaurant conditionally. We weren't even done with our appetizer when our entrees came out. Were you in a rush to turn a table? Portions are barely ok for the prices charged. My wife's butternut squash and sauce were very tasty but portion was minuscule. 3 balls of fried squash were accompanied by a few sprigs of broccoli. If you're a vegetarian you'll walk away hungry. My chicken tikka masala may have been the equivalent of one small chicken breast. Sauce was excellent. Prices of wine by the glass were very high from a pedestrian wine list. My beer at $7 was high and brought to table already poured. Not good especially when I like to drink from the bottle. Charging Tamarind type prices for Chelsea Indian food pretty audacious.
Great experience. Food was delicious, had good veg choices and prepared really well. Flavors come through great. We will be back
Food was wonderful, every dish was superb, and the presentation appealing. Our server was exceptionally nice, helpful and good humored and the woman at the door was very welcoming. The portion sizes were a little on the small side, especially for sharing, and the raita was almost sample size. The deserts were great, and exceeded expectation. Definitely recommend and would happily. Return.
Really good food, Fantastic management and service. Highly recommended, one of the best overall Indian dining experience in the city.
What an incredible find! We went for my dad’s birthday; he loooves Indian food! The food was incredible, each shared plate outdid the one before it. This was authentic, elevated Indian cuisine, at its finest. Served in a homey, modern space, by staff that understand true hospitality. Genuinely can’t wait to return!
Great evening—enjoyed food and service—we were under a music speaker but once we got used to it we were fine
aRoqa is a find. Quiet and discreet. The food is classic Indian, and there are lunch and dinner specials that make it very affordable. I loved the traditional Chicken Tikka Masala and the Dal.
The Michelin Star mushroom tasted straight out of the Trader Joe’s frozen section. Great service. Go for a nice drink.
Tasty food. Limited in quantities. The appetizers are ripoffs as you pay $16 for literally 5 little pieces of cauliflower. They try to make that better by placing the 5 small pieces on a toy truck.
Fantastic food preparations, presentation and service. Dal makhani and bhel were as authentic as it gets. Very happy with our overall experience and highly recommend everyone to try.
Food was very good. More expensive than other good Indian restaurants. Service was mediocre.
Took my 2 sons to dinner. Food was excellent (chicken tiki masala, lamb curry) but service was horrendous. Long waits between courses, little attention of server except to pour water. Would have larger portion sizes - my sons could have eaten more, and ended up making additional food at apt later that night. We were seated in the back of the restaurant which was quieter, but overall ambience much better towards front of house. We were also served another table’s dessert, with the apology we have only one not four. And our bill overcharged is by $35.00 but the waitress caught it after she took my credit card (we were ready to leave and I didn’t check the bill closely!)
So many great Indian restaurants to chose from - try somewhere else.
Always great. Sebastien took good care of us. We thoroughly enjoy aRoqa every time.
Four of us met for dinner at Aroqa and were completely delighted. The mushroom croquettes were delicious. I'd pass on the lamb kebab that wasn't a kebab as we know it. The vegetarian biryani was a nice combination with the Tikka Masala and Lamb curry. We also had an assortment of breads.
The backroom was noisy when a large group came back. We could hardly hear one another. And the front music was a little loud. Fun to sit at the bar for an appetizer or meal.
Cool place with good food. I know it’s good Indian if it’s popular with Indians!
Would give 6 stars if I could. Inventive, yet classic Indian dishes with the perfect balance of spice. Monica, the owner, is incredible and made the whole experience feel so special.
Amazing food! The chicken curry was delicious but the cocktails were the best of its class. I had 2 re-engagements, one if the house signature cocktails. Wow, that was quite delicious. The chutneys and raita sets are also quite tasteful and the mango was so well spiced!
Now, quite expensive!! Dinner for 2 will not be below $130. Will make me think twice to return.... maybe i just get back for those superb cocktails!
Cool vibe. Great food. Great service. Great cocktails, hip ambiance.
Food is very good. Service is also. Sat in back, which isn't very nice.
My partner and I’s experience was astounding! Our waitress Angelica was a total treat and knew everything on the menu and beyond. If you aren’t sure what you want to order she can provide you with amazing recommendations. There wasn’t one thing we ordered that we didn’t find delicious. Even the wine, a bottle of the Nigel, paired perfectly with the food we were having. We will definitely be back very soon for another date night. The restaurant’s ambience was aesthetically pleasing and was noise level was perfect. The restaurant was full but not packed which was nice. Give them a try if you haven’t! Definitely a hidden gem in the neighborhood.
So delicious and gorgeously plated. A real gem!! My husband and I had a great date night.
Good food, service and dining environment, a bit pricey for the portion size.
Wonderful every visit... outstanding food, attentive staff and local favorite....
I really enjoyed this more for happy hour/dinner.
The brunch menu was lackluster in flavor and offerings--and there was no coffee available. The menu online and the menu in the restaurant had a lot of differences--so I was expecting a few dishes on the menu that weren't there in person.
Highly recommend for dinner, however.
Server was beyond unfriendly and wouldn’t help us select choices from the menu and seemed generally unwilling and did not want to serve and help us. Won’t return after this experience even though the food was pretty good.
Hostess was lovely. We arrived early and hungry. She sat us right away without a fuss. She didn't bat an eye or act offended when we asked for an extra side of rice to complement a meal because it ends up I can't eat as spicy as I used to.
Food was fun and delicious! Highly recommend the peri-peri prawns and the mushroom croquettes (of course I am probably describing/spelling those dishes incorrectly), but they gave a new twist to Indian food. A woman at the bar had a drink that came in the bowl and steamed. It looked amazing.
Aroqa gave a full sensory experience. Sounds: Music (early 5pm dinner was not too long, but funky 1990s and 2000s stuff that gave a feeling of nostalgia while tasting something new). Sights: modern decor, flaming food and steam emanating from drinks keeps dinner interesting. Feeling: chairs were comfortable, tables not too tight. And, well, tastes and smells: just yummy!
This place gets trendy and hip for the later evening crowd, and was also perfect for us 5pm diners.
Great Contemporary Indian. Great room. Cool vibe. Awesome bar. Food is better each time we visit.
Decent restaurant with decent food. I would say that main course is average, starters and desserts are better.
Inventive Indian food with quirky (in a good way) presentations. The cauliflower small plate came in the bed of a toy dump truck. The food was very good to excellent and prepared freshly; no soggy fried delicacies at this place!
The server was attentive at first but was quickly overwhelmed. He maintained his sense of humor though and tried his best. I live in the neighborhood and will definitely return.
One of the best meals of my life!! Excellent food, great service!
It was the worst dining experience in nyc in ten years. Service was very cold and rude. Food was disappointing. Cocktails tasted terrible.
This restaurant fits all occasions, deep layers of spice great for everyday, beautiful decor great for the special night out. Great addition to the neighborhood....on my short list....
The selection for the Brunch Menu was great - highly recommend the Habanero Cheese Toast - yum and order 2 servings too!! and the Butter Chicken Mac 'n Cheese - a deliciously new twist on a classic comfort food, genius! But, the best part was our Waiter - he was so attentive with checking how everything was going and making suggestions. And the best part, he addressed a request I made on Open Table to add a candle on an ordered dessert for a birthday celebration!! It was so great of him to recognize that as many times I'll include special requests on Open Table where other restaurants have ignored it! I went to aRoqa last year for the first time for dinner and this was my first time for brunch - definitely will come back! Well done aRoqa!!
Normally, I will not go to an Indian restaurant. I decided that I would start with a contemporary modern once and I am glad I did. Food was good, not what I expected, better. Will try again.
Quiet little spot, went for a quick brunch catching up with friends.. fantastic food and Mumbai / Pune street side food fair! Enjoyed the Vada pav and masala bhurji in particular! Great for a weekend brunch!
Food was very creative.
Better than before! Love this place. Ashish has been our server twice and is great. Prasad makes great drinks. The food is outstanding. We were welcomed warmly. Great cool crowd.
Great food and OK Service. I wish the waiter would be a bit more helpful w recommendations
I would recommend with reservations. I love Indian food, but the food was mediocre. Not very flavorful and the presentation was mediocre.
So very pleased to have this wonderful restaurant around the corner. An elegant take on Indian food, very well prepared and nicely served. Focused mostly on small plates. One main and two small plates with a bread was perfect for two of us. Not inexpensive, but well worth the price.
