If you are in your 20s, do not go here. I wanted to love this place. My boyfriend and I are 26 and 25 respectively, and were easily 10-15 years younger than all the clientele. The staff immediately treated us differently, a lot less attentively than every table around us. We did the $42 Friday night prix fixe, maybe they decided that was enough reason to treat us poorly (which, if you’re going to treat customers poorly for picking it, why are you offering that menu at all?) here’s why it sucked:
Got the wine pairing, first pairing didn’t show up until we were almost done with our course... second pairing also came a solid 15/20min after food was put on the table. Food was lukewarm. French onion soup had literally collapsed before it was even brought to the table.
They absolutely look down on and do not take younger patrons seriously. Save your money and spend it at a beautiful Michelin Star spot that will treat you just as well as everyone else.
Another great Friday night at Aretsky's Patroon. Besides the food and the service, I also really like the 2 piece jazz combo that plays on Friday nights!
Always a first class experience. Great ambience, food and service.
Fantastic food service and ambiance. The owner/manager Ken Aretsky greeted guests at the table in a warm way to add icing to a superb evening. Massive upgrade in food service and welcome from my last visit several ears ago. Thoroughly recommended and I’ll be back more often!
Great bar, very knowledgeable bar staff. Very good wine list. Varied menu that is well executed.
First time there. Loved it! Met Jackie Mason and his wife who are regulars.
We were out for lunch with out of town friends and this was the perfect spot. The food is good, the place is vibrant but Suite at the same time and no one rushed us out. Added bonus— Mr Aretsky came over to say hello and we had a lovely conversation.
From the moment we walked in, we felt welcomed and special. Our table was lovely and everyone who took care of us was professional, warm, and knowledgeable . We shared an appetizer and a salad to start. The kitchen took the extra time to plate each one individually for us, rather than giving us a communal plate. The bread was delightful. The wine suggestion was delicious. We had the veal chop and the sirloin for our mains. The sirloin won the day, although the veal chop was nice too. I haven't had this perfect a restaurant experience in ages. We will be back!!!!
Somelier was world class....but the rib eye was the best I have ever had. And I’ve had a lot......
Love it food, service and great experience!
Mr. Aretsky came over to our table to introduce himself-nice touch! The table side freshly made Caesar salad, by Stefan, is also a nice touch. The Pomme Souffle is a must! The rooftop is probably a nice place to hang out when the weather is warmer.
A first class restaurant...From the moment you walk in until you leave.
One of the greatest things about NYC is that you will never find all the hidden gems. So glad I found this one. Aretsky’s is old school NY elegance akin to the Carlyle but in a more modern setting. Ken Aretsky even made an appearance stopping at every table to introduce himself. The staff is as pro as it gets. From hostess to maître d' to waitstaff we received outstanding service with attention to every detail AP’s world-class fare is expertly flavored and presented in their lovely dining room with side-room bar, a second level for private dining and a lively rooftop bar that is covered and heated brimming with after-work professionals and millennials. Albeit pricey for everyday dining, I can’t wait to visit again and again and again...
Always top notch food, service and ambiance!
Ken Aretsky always so gracious and welcoming. Stephan and Jody, can't beat that team!
Food wasnt good at all. Lamb wasnt cooked good and meat tasted like like an old frozen lamb meat.onion soup tasted more like a water. Also they served food after 50 min which is pretty long time to wait. But service was good, waiters are very attentive nice and polite.
But def not the place where i would like to go back
Truly exceptional meal. Ambiance is wonderful, live music on Friday and great pre fix meal. Quality of dishes exceptional, service was great and no corkage fee on Friday night.
This is a hidden gem in New York City.
This place never fails to please. Top notch food, well prepared and presented. Very professional staff. Minded not to write a review in case it gets too popular! 4th time here.
Excellent in every regard, in the style of the very best NYC steak and American fare restaurants.
We love Stephane! A NYC fixture!
Great food, nice place. A little loud and definitely caters to the midtown business crowd
Food prepared very well. Duck week done and tasty. Cod a little bland, halibut well done and tasty.
Appetizers, casino calamari truly wonderful, shrimp flavorful. Red wine wonderful.
Server very animated. Caesar salad very original fresh and table side creation wonderful
We brought friends who hadn't been to Aretsky's for the live jazz and pre fixe menu. Very festive and a great value. Perfect get together during the holiday season.
from the moment you walk in to when you leave everyone is caring for you. Good food, great wine list, great service. The way dinning should be. We will be back
Ken Aretsky has blended his years of expertise in the restaurant business into an amazing dining experience. He has created the perfect blend of impeccable service and food. Find time to visit the rooftop bar which is now enclosed for the winter months.
Excellent lunch spot, top service.
go to choice for midtown business lunch and great food / service
I recently visited New York and had looked forward to visiting Patroons. My wife and I enjoy reading Stewart Wood' novels and were curious to see if the restaurant (Patroons) was as good as insinuated by one of his characters. We were not disappointed! I look forward to our next visit to the "big apple". Patroons will be on the top of our restaurant list.
I loved the main dining room and wanted to love the experience, but despite us having to repeat our order twice they brought the wrong appetizers. They didn't give us a hard time about it (given it was their mistake), but it was nearly 20 additional minutes until the correct appetizer arrived. The mains were good, but very, very overpriced (yes, even by NYC standards). Wine markups also exceeded normal NYC markups. Overall, just not a remarkable experience relative to cost.
This is a great restaurant! Beautiful ambiance, delicious food, and the service was awesome! Highly recommended!
The best. Love Stephan and Jody!
Very delicious food, but very overpriced. Appeared that we were the only table in the restaurant not having a business dinner on an expense account.
The food was great. The service was good and not too many interruptions. And if you’re luck you’ll meet Ken the owner. Great place. Highly recommended.
Met one of our Presidents who was also having dinner here. Enough said.
I had been 4 times over the last 6 months but very disappointed with this last meal at Aretsky’s.
They “refilled” our $18 sparkling water twice without asking. One of the salads was ill described and it didn’t occur to them to check why no one was eating it. At that price, it should have been replaced or at least offered the option.
Very bad value! The food was fine for the other people but it was certainly not worth what we paid! Only go on an expense account - if that’s a generous one. Appalled.
Best tofu dish I've ever had. Ever. Service was flawless. Really great experience overall.
We only get here once a year because we live in Texas. They treat us like we eat there weekly. You are the most important person in the room. A special place
Good food but way, way overpriced, even by NYC standards. Nearly $600 all-in for four people for dinner which included appetizer, entree, a la carte veggies, dessert and coffee with no wine or alcohol.
Met a friend I had not seen in 25 years. The service and corner table were great, as well as the food.
We were able to be very comfortable, have privacy and enjoy the delicious food!
