They lost my reservation even though opentable sent me a reminder the day before. Took too long for someone to take my order. Main dish was served barely tepid. They never came by to ask how the food was. Won't return.
Our group of four thought the food and flavors were wonderful, but the entree portions were very small except salad and dessert (where the dining month advertised ice cream was an extra charge).
One entree plate had two small pieces of meat and the other two had three. Salmon was small but perfectly cooked, delicate and delicious.
Chef Sara did a masterful job with the dining month menu. The service was attentive. They were able to make adjustments for gluten-free needs. Highly recommended.
Visited during dining month and it was packed. They close at 930p and there were still a good amount of people waiting for a table at 830p and there was no designated waiting area for them, spilling into to dining area. Food was okay, some of the flavors that were supposed to be the highlight of the dish were lacking. Service was really slow, maybe due to high volume of patrons, had to wait 20-30 mins in between courses. General concept of the restaurant is good, execution not so much.
The food was absolutely amazing. Fresh, innovative with a delightful blend of flavors, and they offered vegan options on their menu. We had the 3 course March Dining Experience menu and each course was delicious. I especially liked the tahini "ice cream" dessert.
The service was prompt but not rushed, and the servers were very friendly and accommodating. We were visiting Portland and liked Arden so much we came back again before we left!
Totally overpriced food. Not worth the cost
Our experience with Arden was underwhelming. They have a very nice staff who are attentive and friendly. The silverware, dinnerware, and fresh flowers were a very nice touch. The vibe is elegant, yet hipster; however, it's really small inside and the room can become so loud it's difficult to have a conversation without raising your voice quite a bit. Due to the small size of the restaurant, a large crowd grew at the entrance because there is no place to wait for a table.
We ordered the dining month special and we were disappointed that the advertised wine pairing on the website was a false advertisement. The food was underwhelming and there was a miso theme to every dish. If you ordered the salad, salmon, and dessert they all had miso in it. I appreciate that miso is a fermented food that is full of probiotics, vitamins, and minerals. I suppose using a single ingredient in diverse ways is pretty clever; although, when used repeatedly the miso flavor became tiresome and the saltiness was overwhelming. Lastly, I prefer my salmon medium-well and the waiter didn't offer a suggestion on how it was cooked, it was seared on the outside and raw on the inside. Maybe this was my fault and I should have asked for it to be cooked more well done. On the bright side, the presentation of the food was wonderful and my water glass was never empty.
Total disorganization. We walked out. That bad
There were 2 reasons I didn't give this place 5 stars...
1) The food was very good, but a little cool. I expect hot dishes to be hot, not lukewarm.
2) The timing of the service was off. We ordered cocktails, appetizers and wine. They brought everything at the same time. The cocktails were typical pre-dinner drinks, not meant to go with food at all... The staff needs to learn about proper sequencing...
The kitchen fan wasn’t quite enough for the restaurant. It has an open kitchen and the cooking smells has gone on to all our clothes :(
Other than that the food was great and the service was all good too!
The food is inspired, creative, fresh and provocative. The service knowledgeable, committed to the concept and seamless. Tables a little too close for privacy. We had the chefs meal, which is a great way to try a lot of the menu. Portions were reasonable, dishes were layered with unique flavors and varied textures that married well.
Sesame dessert profound.
Save this place for special occasions and when you want to challenge your palette! Staff was very attentive, wines were nice and smallish food portions were generally yummy; yet a bit confused and over the top.
Absolutely devine. One of the best restaurants in Portland. Be ready for some creative dishes... Not for the classic American or comfort food crowd.
The food the service and drinks were all amazing. Heavenly black tahini ice cream? Who knew! I am buying an ice cream maker and trying that at home.
Had faux prix 4 course meal. absolutely amazing and different flavors. Great wine pairings. Date nignt for 2 parents...intimate little place and easy to meet new people.
We chose two items from each section. The green salad was out of this world because of the freshness of the greens. Everything was superb and delicious.
Great wine list and excellent food. Went here with a friend who is gluten-free and the menu was easy for her to navigate - no special requests needed to be made. The wine had lots of unusual, interesting options. Will return.
I thought this was a very good restaurant. The food was excelant as was the wine by the glass selction.
Great food! Especially liked the steak tartare and the chicken liver mousse. Crab salad was amazing!
Incredible travel through the world of spices, herbs and textures! Great service. My favorite!
We had the prefix chefs menu. Every dish was delicious and unique. The cocktails sounded amazing, and I am definitely going back to try. I had wine, which was amazing. Also a great value. We left very satisfied and will be returning
Third visit and all have been outstanding. We very much enjoyed the chef's prix fixe with wine pairing... high recommend this on your first trip.
We had a wonderful experience at Arden! My girlfriend and I came in for a 9pm reservation. We were promptly greeted by the host and they offered coat check! We were seated and was welcomed by our server within a few minutes after our host seated us.
Taylor was an amazing server! Very knowledgeable about the dishes, ingredients and just one of those employees that you can tell he loves his work. Big Thank you to Taylor for his hospitality and great service!
Food was very delicious and very well put together! They have only been open since April! Go check out this restaurant gem!
Positive: waiters were very friendly. Creativity and intention well presented to provide different dinning experience.
Negative: bad ventilation from cooking area with strong smell. It took long time to get entrees. Suggest not to sit at tables at the entry section in winter. The food is ok but not impressive.
Great food and drink.
I keep coming back to Arden, even in a city full of great restaurants!
The chef’s menu was terrific. I ate food I would never have picked and it was all creative and delicious.
The food was excellent being a fusion of Asian meets Northwest cuisine. We sat at the counter and unfortunately the ventilation hood from the kitchen did not clear the air sufficiently so we arrived home with clothes saturated with food odors. The wines by the glass were not compatible with my palate except the $20 per glass Walla Walla Cabernet. They were also quite a bit expensive compared to many other Pearl area restaurants. The waiters were knowledgeable, very courteous, and attentive.
Excellent food ! Very creative and fresh and delicious. Dessert is top notched and Asian-inspired. If Michellin would come to Portland Oregon, this restaurant definitely worths a Michellin Star.
Wine is pretty good！
This space was built as and had previously been a wine bar. It has a small open kitchen. It was not ventilated, they had hot oil and spices on the grill which filled the air the entire time and burned my eyes the minute I walked in until the time I walked out. I could not wait to leave. I had been there the week before and wanted to come back. I brought three friends, and I was embarrassed, nobody had a good time and it was $175-per person. The week before I had the prix fixe and a bottle of wine-perfect! This time I did the wine pairing and would not recommend it. The Somm was way to wordy about each tiny pour. Quite a bit would have to change before I return
I hear a lot of good things about the food at Arden. This is my 2nd time there and so far so good! Can not wait to go back. Next time we’ll do prix fix and let the chef choose as everything she’s making is brilliant! Great flavors, fresh ingredients!
Everything was cooked to perfection. Maybe a little more clarity in the flavors? I had the squid and it was perfectly cooked and flavored but the sauces made it a little muddled. By no means was this bad but it could be so much more. The cod was absolutely delightfully delicate. The sauce was great but there maybe one too many garnishes that eroded the flavors that were being presented.
Food was well prepared, interesting, and presenting each member of a couple a different dish that can be shared is a genius approach to tasting menu. Server was knowledgeable and did not push wine pairings. Really fun evening despite a rather boisterous adjacent table in a small space.
We did a 4-course meal for first time here. It was fantastic! A lots of variety of foods that you get to taste. One thing is that you don’t know what you going to get.
What a amazing place. Food, service, staff all topshelf.
The chef is always inventive!! We enjoy experimenting with the fun creations!
This was the best restaurant we ate at in Portland this past week! New menu based on local ingredients daily, prepared perfectly, everything was marvelous.
Someone knows how to cook! So many flavors! Such excellent preparation of local, fresh, ingredients And the wine!! Excellent new find in the Pearl District.
I wanted to like this place, I really did. The wait staff was terrific and very helpful with wine. The wine list was interesting and the food was good but not great. The restaurant was very noisy and the seating at the bar (basically a counter overlooking the kitchen) uncomfortable - even though we'd made reservations we were told there were no seats available in the dining room. The clothes I wore to dinner reeked of food smells after we left. Needless to say we won't be returning. If you just want a glass of wine and can score a seat away from the bar then it might be worth it.
