The tasting menu with wine pairing is delicious, varied, generous, creative, and demonstrates a clear passion for food.
Great service and we really enjoyed the tasting menu!
This is a great neighborhood spot when you want something besides bar and pub food or fast food. The service was attentive. The food was good for sharing and they did have a great selection of wines. However, the knock on Arden is the ventilation. There seems like there is none. The smoke and fumes from the kitchen are not vented well enough and we ended up smelling like the restaurant the entire evening. That is my only dig on Arden. Other than that, it's a nice spot for a dinner date, or something a little more intimate.
This was a great spot! I was surprised on a Saturday night that it was not more busy, but maybe because of the holiday weekend. The tar-tare is done in the style of a lettuce wrap, and while it was good, we prefer the more traditional preparation. We also tried the foie gras - which was served over a piece of pumpkin pie. I don't particularly care for foie, and I couldn't imagine I would like it this way but it was DEVINE. Also had the miso prepared Cod, which was it's first night on the menu. We liked it so much we almost ordered another! Truly excellent - thank you for having us, we will be back!
Food was interesting and everything was delicious. Wine were great. Got the tasing menu and enjoyed every dish. Wonderful service.
One of Portland's best restaurants! Everything they prepare is delicious every time. Lamb, oysters, smoked gin cocktail are standouts.
Wow, get the 4 course tasting menu!! Off the charts amazing!! Food and service 5 star ‼️
The flavors of my roasted squash salad was wonderful. Appetizers of olives and the toast is a must as well. Can’t wait to try my next dish on another visit.
We had a great time. We ordered the chefs selection and enjoyed all of the courses.
The wait staff was great and what ended up be a long dinner (2.5 hours) the time went fast.
I should note that they were super mindful of our time and schedule and I don’t doubt they would have expedited the meal if we had plans later.
It’s been a long time since all the pieces have come together for us. Even at some of the top spots in Portland, a critical feature is lacking. But here at Arden, the food, service, and ambiance (dining room wasn’t cold, ladies! You can actually take your coat off to eat!) easily competed as one of the best spots in the Pearl. Not only was every dish excellent, but the ingredient combinations were bold and unique. Portion sizes were either average or large so no concern there. A sophisticated industrial/artistic/chic dining room risked feeling to “cold” but candles and a generous thermostat created just the right warmth. Service was great with the exception of a little earlier confusion on who was busser or server (or food runner? Pool house? Still never figured it out) so we weren’t sure who to ask whom for what. Either way, we can’t wait to return.
I was very impressed with the size of the 4 course chefs menu :)
It came to 11 dishes which filled us up perfect!
The food was fantastic, and service was equally great. The sommelier helped us choose a wine that was exactly the style we love. Food was all served in decent-sized portions (pasta was on the small side, while the others were larger than expected), and we left plenty satisfied. They treated us well, and even took special care since we’d stated we were celebrating a birthday in our reservation.
The things that stood out most in our dinner were the smoked dates served as part of the lamb entree and the delicata squash vegetable dish. Both were absolutely amazing!
A great experience. Limited seasonal menu but great selections. Spaghetti course delicious and brown butter squash salad great as well. Broad wine list and great service. Portland you need to get to this place it is awesome.
Fabulous as ALWAYS. The very best!
Loved! The wine list is beautifully curated and the food is so simple but so delicious! The ambiance is romantic. Food is served family style, so fun to come with a group so you can try lots of dishes.
Exceptional food, with a complex, interesting, layering of flavors and unusual wines that elevate the experience without being pretentious. Comfortable atmosphere with attrentive service. Very versatile, could be a casual night out with friends, date night, or an energetic business dinner.
Excellent in every way, they manage to make whatever is seasonal into something fabulous. I had the radicchio salad and lamb collar.
What a wonderful find. The food was amazing, the ambiance is perfect for in the city. I can't help but worry this place will soon be packed and hard to get in to.
Truly wonderful food. An exciting gastronomic experience. Highly recommended.
Tired a few different dishes and glasses of wine
Loved it all!
Fabulous fare and beverages. Great Service. On the expensive side in Portland, but worth it!
Lovely ambience, warmth, fantastic service. A lovely spot for a pre-theater meal!
We went to Arden before seeing MacBeth at the Armory. The wine list was long with interesting local and global options. The food menu was short, but it was made up of local, seasonal and unique options that are great for sharing. The egg crostini was a good starter and the squash salad perfect for fall. The pasta was unlike any pasta I've ever had, in a good way. The staff had great recommendations and provided excellent service. Arden is a cozy little wine bar with interesting small bites - we will be back!
We found the Arden to be a memorable experience which is what we were looking for. We had invited good friends to join us so we were a party or 4. The food was fun and the service was excellent. We are not drinkers and our water glasses were always full which was super great. Our only challenge was with dessert. We were give 3 single serving portions. We were unable to cut 2 with the utensils supplied. I know that had we asked for a knife it would have quickly appeared but we enjoyed the challenge of trying to cut the desserts and didn't think to ask.
Good food, good location, and good atmosphere. Price might be a little high for Portland.
It was WAY too loud and it was our anniversary. It was a Friday night and there was a large feasting table of screaming rude women....
It was impossible to talk and had to stuff Kleenex into our ears. And had to shout out our order. 🙄
The entire meal was amazing. The service was first rate. The recommended wine was fantastic and the food was excellent. The chicken for 2 is out of this world. The steak and tuna were wonderful as well. Chef Erik is doing a fine job here. So happy to again have a foody-worthy restaurant in The Pearl again. Highly recommended.
Great Albacore and white bean dish ... too good
Excellent three course dinner & delicious Pinot all before our Armory show.
Our first time at ARden before a show at the Armory. Brought friend from San Francisco who knows her food. It was outstanding. The service was fabulous and it was an easy walk to the theater. We only had to park once. We will definitely return. This is one of our new go-to places!
Great menu. Small but we’ll done. Service was good. Would prefer more Italian wines.
Went for,the new chef. Eric is creative and so interesting
We were pleasantly surprised with the amount of food in the Chef's tasting meal. The chef was even able to accomodate me not being able to eat raw foods.
Great food. Excellent service. It was a wonderful evening until we had aloud table next to us. Nothing unusual. They were just having fun. However, when we raised our voices to hear each other, so did they...
Someday I hope Portland restaurants learn to manage sound in a space as part of the dining experience. I will go back to Arden to dine outside or if they add something soft and sound absorbent into their esthetic of concrete, metal, and a glass. I wish the space would have allowed the food to shine!
If you are a foodie and want to experience the most amazing local tastes this is the place to go... every time I am in town, I visit the Arden and to date I have never been disappointed. The wine list is exceptional and the owner is a sommelier which is amazing to say the least for such a small venue.
From appetizer to dessert they manage to enhance the flavor and surprise you.
Everything about our meal was perfect. I have already recommended to friends. We had the tasting menu and wine pairing and I can say this was one of the best meals we have eaten in a number of years. The food was perfectly cooked and the flavor and texture combinations were spot on. Frankie, our waiter was excellent and contributed to our positive experience.
One of the finest restaurants in Portland and our current favorite hands down.
Don’t miss the seasonal fresh fish appetizers and the amazing salads often prepared with home made yogurt sauces or other unbelievably creative concoctions.
They have an excellent sommelier and she knows her wine pairing.
If you put your evening in their hands it won’t disappoint.
Excellent food & wines. The service very friendly.
Arden is my new favorite restaurant in Portland. I go almost every week. Great place to bring friends and clients. The food is off the charts good. Fresh, innovative and always delicious. Love the Chicken Diavlo, Chick Pea Fries, and all the farm to table salads made from whatever is fresh that day. They also have a very interesting wine list with wines from all over the world including a very good local list. A very Portlandia experience, I highly recommend.
Ambiance is goo, but food didn’t impressed me. Two of the plates included chickpeas and white bean that really fail to get a good combination of flavor and tenderness. Disappointed given that I had high expectations.
Overall a very good experience! Service was genuine and attentive. Food was amazing, with one small knock (and perhaps it’s a personal opinion); no starch served with a steak entree seemed misplaced. I was likely better off (health wise, lol), but I guess I’m still a ‘meat and potatoes’ traditionalist of sorts. Regardless, for sure I’d return.
