I tried calling Arcwood Wine Bar several times because my first visit. The phone would go straight to voice mail without any information on the phone number like This is Arcwood Wine Bar but rather "Leave a message". When I arrived the server mention she has mentioned to the owner to change the message but no changes yet. Open Table showed on my reservation is was a soft opening. I found out the restaurant had been opened for one year. We had many small plates the meatballs below average, cheese and fig plate good but not enough crackers, salad was good, Brussels sprouts were below average. The service was average and kept looking for our server. For the cost and experience I would recommend finding another place to dine.
Your neighborhood gem! Quaint, quiet and excellent food! The burger was amazing! We had the fig and goat cheese toast and chopped salad. Portions were generous, as my husband and I split all of the dishes. Very nice place to go for date night or to meet friends for dinner.
Second time in 2 weeks! The food is beyond good. This time we had the brussel sprouts which were ridiculous (in a good way!), the gnocci (also amazing), and the hamburger which is out of this world. The only complaint this time was that the 3 dishes we ordered all came out at the same time. Next time, we'll order one, wait, then order something else, etc. The service was good, but one of the servers was so busy, we didn't feel like she gave us the attention that we got the last time we were there. BUT, we're going back and eating more of the yummy food! Definitely a great place!
What a great dining experience!
It was our first time. Very impressed with the food & service. Top notch!
Great selection of wines & fun, energetic ambience.
Can't wait to return!
We found Arcwood recently and really like it! Great happy hour and nice wine selection. Service is top notch! The goat cheese toast is delicious!
Had no idea this place was here before finding it while searching for something different online. Really was happy with this restaurant. Great atmosphere and delicious food! The only downside which isn't a huge deal is that the tables inside are really close together. But, it also was fun talking to our neighbors. We will come back for sure! Nice outdoor patio as well.
Great wine list and small plate options. Delicious!
Good taps and an excellent wine list. It's small and intimate, a great place to meet friends.
Food was too spicey and not enough variety
Wine selection and food were both excellent as was the service. We were in on a Sunday night and it was busy and really great vibes! We will be back
food was awful.
Very good. Our server was very helpful and everything we ordered was delicious. With 2 glasses of wine, 2 entrees, a salad, a small plate, a dessert and a coffee it only came to $108. I thought that was a pretty good deal for a trendy place with trendy food.
Took my wife for Valentine’s Day.
The place is great.
The wine was excellent.
I got the lamb chops and she got the breaded pork chops, we both thought the meats needed more seasoning / taste.
Overall experience was nice.
Lovely wine bar with interesting menu. The sautéed mushrooms were terrific, as well as the brick chicken and lamb chops. For dessert, the Churros stuffed with Bavarian cream were delicious. We’ll be back to try other dishes. The hamburgers looked so good.
Great neighborhood restaurant! Jessica is the best! So accommodating especially with all our food issues! Gluten free and vegan!!
The place is tiny on the inside. The patio is lovely and I would have sat there if it wasn’t so cold. They really should find a way to enclose it in the winter so it can be utilized. The food was terrible. I ordered the pizza. It was a bit burned and the sauce tasted terrible. It was sugary sweet and tasted weird. I make better pizza on a flatbread in my toaster oven at home and it doesn’t cost $15. The gnocchi was spicy… ok, I like spicy but there’s no need to burn off my tastebuds. I couldn’t even taste the food. I’ve never had Italian food that spicy hot. The Caesar’s salad was fine. The waitress was nice. She helped me choose a good glass of red wine. Also, every time someone left the place, they left the door open and my date had to get up and shut the door. It’s February and the nights are very chilly. I won’t go back.
Small intimate place with great food (large shareable plates) wine and service. Highly recommend!
Wonderful tapas style dining, great flavors. Incredible wine selection.
Sadly our experience at Arcwood wasn't so great. It's a shame, as the wine selection is fantastic and reasonably priced. The negatives: It may have been an "off" night for the staff there, but the first thing that struck us was how bad the service was. The staff seemed preoccupied and not overly friendly. It was a shame as the ambiance of the place is great - intimate, comfortable and nicely redecorated, felt great for dates and business meetings. Regardless, we were seated in a nice spot outside and hoped things would improve. There were 3 of us, so we ordered a bottle of pinot noir and a glass of zinfandel (both of which were great) and had a flatbread to share for starters. When the flatbread came, it wasn't spectacular, but as we were hungry, we ate it and decided on our main course. Cue a 25 minute wait. It felt like we were being ignored. Did we do something to upset the staff? Was there some drama unfolding inside that we weren't privy to? They knew we had yet to order and we still had our menus. As we were draining the wine (granted, we were chatting and starting to feel quite merry, so time did pass quickly), we realized how late it was. Our server walked past our table again without looking at us and apparently didn't hear us when we tried to get his attention and instead zipped past us as he went indoors. We'd had enough, so when we did grab his attention eventually, we asked for the check and left. We never did get to order the great-looking dishes our server was bringing out to other tables. We really wanted this to be a good experience as Tarzana needs more places like this, but Arcwood really underwhelmed. Check, please!
Poor service; steak was poor quality Lamb chips were good
Ambience not warm or inviting
Very nice outdoor patio. Great service. Even with the rain it was cozy and warm due to the over hanging heater.
Items on their website are no longer on menu. Website should have been updated. Then server is telling us about the few items on menu how wonderful they are . The first two items I ordered from her recommendations also were no longer available. The server should have know this before. The manager never came to our table to apologize. Expensive for what we ordered.
Excellent food...really delicious. Big portions and good value. Small place... High recommend
Excellent experience - food, wine, and service. The server took the time to explain the wine menu based on our preferences. The food is excellent. Will return soon.
Love love love
I’ve always wanted to experience Arcwood, and finally had the opportunity. My, was I impressed!! Everything was excellent, but what was more important in my perspective was the passion the service was to take care of our experience. I plan on definitely becoming a regular!
I took my wife and a neighbor friend to happy hour, and we had a very good time. We made our selections from the happy hour menu, and the cauliflower, brussels sprouts and salad were exceptional. The brussels sprouts were the star of the show. The corn dish was interesting, but a bit too spicy for most of us. The wine selection was good, and we enjoyed several glasses. The service was outstanding; the hostess and the waitstaff went out of their way to make our visit enjoyable. We had a very good time and will be back.
We arrived to find that there was no inside table available for us in spite of me having selected an inside table for 4 on Opentable when I booked the restaurant. The staff was very nice, but as it was cold outside and there was no table available, we left and ate elsewhere. This may be a bug in Opentable's software as I know I checked the box for inside table. We have eaten here before and enjoyed the food.
Had a great time, good food, good service, nice atmosphere. Would definitely go back.
I had originally requested to be seated inside the restaurant, but we were seated in the patio. Even though it was intially disappointing to be seated outside on the cushioned bench seats, it turned out okay accept for feeling kind of cramped. The first thing we were told before ordering was they serve family style meals. Not only did this turn out great for everybody, being able to taste everything that was ordered, but it also came out economically cheaper than if we had ordered individually. The first thing we noticed is that Arcwood offers obscure appetizer items that might initially sound ho-hum, like Brussels sprouts and cauliflower. It's definitely not the first thing that comes to mind when you think of an appetizer. I was pleasantly surprized that neither the Brussels sprouts or the cauliflower tasted anything like I thought it would. The cauliflower was fried and was crunchy and was quite good. The Brussels sprouts were prepared in a jalapeño aioli topped with finely grated parmesan cheese. It tasted amazing and the jalapeño gave it a kick that wasn't overpoweringly spicy. The normal taste of Brussels sprouts was completely masked. The kale salad had kale, dried cranberries, candied pecans, goat cheese with a raspberry vinagrette dressing which was pretty good. For the main course we ordered a Branzino cooked whole, topped with chopped parsely with 2 lemon halves. The crispy skin made the fish taste even better and the one fish was plenty enough for everyone to get a taste. Btw: for those of you thinking of ordering paella, it is no longer on their menu. We also ordered the thinly cut steak frites seved together with a chimichurri cooked medium rare. That tasted average at best, not bad and not great. For dessert I had their tiramisu. The consistency and layering of the tiramisu was perfect and the taste was an 8 out of 10. What could have made it perfect would be a hint of Kahlúa or rum. Arcwood Restaurant and Wine Bar is defintely a keeper!
Arcwood was a real surprise. Food was excellent, esp the fig goat cheese bread and short rib ravioli. Service was helpful and friendly. Had a lovely evening chatting with a friend. Will be back!
Just outstanding. Can’t wait to go back. Very pleased with everything. Top shelf service.
Fantastic food, fantastic service. Very comfortable. Plenty of choices for all. Meat eaters, vegetarian and vegan! I will be back for sure!
Don't call yourself a wine bar... took 2 Bortles to open the Malbec we ordered... paid $60 for an extremely cold bottle of Cabernet. Complained about the temperature, I was told to ask for room temperature next time...its a Cabernet!!! You're a wine bar!! However, food was delicious
Enjoyed the mixed mushrooms, fabulous fig and goat cheese toast and hamburger and fries.
We had a lovely time celebrating Lauren’s birthday. The food and service was excellent. We highly recommend the meatballs,fig/ goat cheese bread and cheese/meat board.
Super nice staff. Great place for a group of girls to hang or a nice easy evening out.
Wine was ok, could use some work but getting there...
Definitely would recommend!
I’ve have eaten here many times and really enjoyed the experience. But last night without informing us had us sit outside in 60 degree weather with broken heaters.
Had we known the inside of the restaurant was full we would of chosen a different place to eat - it was wrong of them to take reservations without warning us- we froze it was miserable.
Great ambiance at this cool wine bar with indoor and outdoor seating. Expensive but delicious small plates to share. Great staff. Great wine.
Great night with 5 of us sharing some great food and wine
