Fantastic! Excellent food, lovely atmosphere, friendly and attentive service, convenient location all made for a relaxed setting to enjoy a birthday lunch with dear friends. It was our first visit after hearing great things and the experience more than lived up to its reputation. We'll be back!
Every time I eat here the food and service is up and down. I've had excellent meals here on occasion. Once or twice the service was outstanding. I am beginning to wonder if I should ever come back. The waffle tasted very much like an Eggo. It was not crowded but we still had to ask the server for share plates twice and when they never came we flagged down another person who took quite a while to bring us the plates. I might give it one more try before crossing it off my list.
The only thing I don't like about Archetype is that I always have the hardest time deciding what I want to order. The food there is delicious, and it's nice to see plenty of healthy options in a sea of heavy french cuisine in wine country. Definitely our go to spot whenever we are up there.
We went here for brunch and sat outside in the enclosed patio. I loved my buttermilk pancakes, but my husband was not impressed with his buttermilk biscuit, which was very large and too crumbly for his taste. It was similar to a Bisquick biscuit. He also felt his omelet with gruyere cheese was too underdone, although I thought it was delicious. This is the reason for the 4 star rating for a delightful restaurant.
Everything we tried was yummy: Benedict, lemon pancake, cinnamon roll. Lovely serene atmosphere.
Brunch was really delicious. Recommend the omelette. Cin
Don’t know how it can be topped. Very tasty, creative and healthy and rich in some offerings.
Great brunch. Spent more on alcohol than food; but food was tasty and unfussy and service, superb.
It was amazing breakfast!
My friend and I went for her birthday. First time for both of us. Nothing special done for birthday. We felt that the waitresses came around too much a d it made us feel uncomfortable. Sometimes they would stand behind the plant for a minute and then walk away or just walk by occasionally. We understood that it was probably just to ensure good service but it was maybe too much. Also, it was a really slow day and time so there were only like 3 tables filled. Besides that, the food was delicious. We expected it to be pricey because we are in Napa valley, but we are still college students so it would be nice if they had a PUC student discount or something. Anyway, it's a must try at least once and I think we will go back for different special occasions at some point.
The restaurant is beautiful, and everything on the menu looked amazing. My only gripe with the food is that the portion of my $17 trout avocado toast was small (just two small pieces of avocado toast with no sides.) We were pretty disappointed with the reservation process and wait, however. I had made a reservation for Sunday brunch for 5 people in the outdoor area, and the reservation form asked if we were celebrating anything special, so I mentioned that we would be there to celebrate my husband completing his first triathlon. We arrived on time, but weren't seated until 20 minutes after our reservation time, and were seated indoors despite the request on the reservation for outdoors. By that time we were starving (especially my husband, who had just done a triathlon) and the wait to be served was also lengthy. The server apologized for the wait but did not offer anything as compensation, and there was no acknowledgment of our request for outdoor seating or the special occasion we were celebrating. (Why request that information on the reservation if it is not going to be acknowledged?) I would chock this up to a fluke and would try this place again, but hope the restaurant can work to honor their reservations and maybe hire more staff to accommodate their volume.
This was our first time here. We were pleasantly impressed by the ambiance of the restaurant.
The Sunday Brunch menu offered a variety of deliciously sounding food. We tried the fresh oysters and they were wonderful. My wife was slightly disappointed that the fried chicken in the fried chicken and waffle dish was boneless.
All in all, we had a great time and would definitely like to come back and give dinner a try!
Archetype was recommended to me by at least 2-3 people so I went in with high expectations. 3 stars for service because our waitress was not friendly or engaging, the rest of the service workers were very good however (busser, and hostess). The food was good, not great. The ambiance was amazing. Very beautifully designed with a bustling open kitchen that was the centerpiece of the restaurant. The price point was similar to that of most local eateries, around $18-30 per plate. The food was what disappointed me the most. They used their local produce to their advantage, however were too ambitious on their flavors creating a clashing symphony of tastes.
The flavors were not all to my liking, but everything was well executed. Great cocktails and bar; mediocre wine list considering the Napa location. Service was spotty and uncertain--we were never sure who our waiter/waitress was and not in a great way. Extremely comfortable seats. Nice space--big but not too loud.
Archetype has been our favorite go-to restaurant ever since it opened and was called French Blue. It is a gorgeous building on the inside. Just the design and architecture is enough to make a reservation. The food is great, and the menu is varied, so everyone is happy. The waitstaff is professional, and you won't feel like you're being hurried out the door. We love this place!
Veggies were crisp and delicious all dishes seasoned to perfection
We are regulars here and love their brunch! The staff is very friendly and amenable! Definitely recommend this establishment!
I had the pork belly, and though it was ok, it wasn't worth the price point of $36. It wasn't very tender, and in fact a bit tough.
However, my girl had the Ribeye and it was too thick and came out very tough. And it wasn't seasoned very well. Not worth anywhere near the $75 price point of this steak dinner.
Our friends had the salmon and they did like it.
I have been to Archetype a few times for dinner and always enjoyed it. Unfortunately, our brunch experience was underwhelming. We were a party of 4 and we tried several dishes - they were so-so to good. I had the breakfast sandwich, which was so big it was almost impossible to eat and the cheese was melted on just one side of the biscuit, so you had to try to bite through the whole sandwich to get the full flavor. The pizza was nothing special either.
Excellent service and delicious seasonal food.
excellent and beautiful food, calm and peaceful vibe... we loved it.
Easter Brunch with Grandmother
Attentive service, great food, and special care taken for 99 year old mother.
Food is inventive and always interesting.
I’m very dissatisfied with a couple of changes to the menu at Archetype on was the absence of tater tots apparently they were removed from the menu but really now what do they have that set them apart? I was also disappointed that they are no longer doing namaste by dog fish head on draft that was a really unique feature of their menu as well that for some reason they dropped
Such a bummer:( damn it Archetype! I’m sure I’ll find someplace that’ll make up For their deficites!
But their food was still pretty delicious even if I cannot get as enthusiastic as I once did about what Archetype once was
Great lemon ricotta pancakes. Good service and ambiance. My go to place in SH for brunch.
The halibut and oysters were delicious by the portions of food were less than substantial. The server made a comment about the oysters being small ($40 per dozen) but didn’t offer any us extras. We were comfortable paying $37 for the halibut (which was perfectly cooked) but not for a 4oz-ish portion. No exaggeration. The place is adorable but there were only 3 other tables in the restaurant at 7:30 on a Thursday. I would only recommend this place to a friend if the portion sizes were larger - there are too many restaurants in the Napa area to spend $138 (excluding tip) to leave hungry.
Excellent variety of fresh appetizers and entree’s. Monday night was very quiet. Fresh halibut and sword fish grilled and served on sweet potatoes and crowned with fresh sautéed greens. Deserts were lemon meringue and chocolate cream with marshmallows.
Great service and food for lunch. Front room was nicely heated with fireplace.
We do love Archetype - -but mainly for the beautiful setting. The menu has changed since the chef changed - and we find it somewhat difficult to find something new to try on the menu that we are interested in. We preferred the prior menu and chef.
I was disappointed in this restaurant. Our waiter was rude and seemed to be under the false impression my husband wanted to leave. Then he seemed irritated that I didn't order any alcoholic beverages (on the coat tails of a morning wine tasting. Had to send something back as well due to oversting. Chia pudding good but not enough to draw me back.
We came here for brunch on a wine tasting weekend-what a treat! The interiors are beautiful and the food was delicious we started with the cinnamon roll, quite decadent. I had the two egg breakfast, very good! I am not sure what all my friends ate, but we were all very happy with our brunch! I would definitely recommend.
I've been dining at French Blue/Archetype for years. Food has always wonderful and tonight was also. Service has fallen thru the years, tonight it was good, not great, just ok. Archetype is worth dining at for the food, and the service does not detract, it's just ok service, and I tip accordingly.
Food and service was amazing! Brought some friends who were visiting and they loved it.
Great lemon ricotta pancakes. Excellent coffee. Service was very good. The interior of the restaurant and decor were amazing. As a SH local, I have found my brunch "go to" place.
a lovely room, friendly service, interesting menu, excellent pizza.
Lots of lovely gluten free and vegetarian options. This is a beautiful restaurant and the service is very professional. The food was delicious although some dishes were a little pricey for the size of the serving.
This restaurant has a very creative menu and outstanding food. The restaurant is beautifully designed and a fun place.
Great playing on food
Taste was ok
Took a while to get water and order
Didn't pay attention to details like spilling water on floor/table to refill cup.
Great food and great space marred by exceptionally slow service, people packed too tightly (servers and guests bumped my wife’s chair repeatedly), and the next person over on my bench seat being allowed to have her dog sit with her and snack off her plate(!)
I made a reservation, within 30 minutes of the reservation, and my credit card was required. I was surprised when we arrived, that our table wasn't ready. The host told us to wait at the community table. He did not lead the way nor offer us anything. We waited over 15 minutes with no one helping us. One of us, finally went to the bar to order a drink. We were tired of waiting for a table that appeared to not exist so we decided to just eat at the community table, which has very uncomfortable stools. The service was dismal and the food was even worse. The chicken was extremely dry, of the chicken and dumplings, the kimchi bowls (4) had old rice, over cooked eggs, very little kimchi (I ordered more but it didn't come till after our meal was over) and too much roasted red peppers that do not compliment the dish. We requested that they make the eggs over for us, which they did. There was no apology for the bad food or service. The only dish that was great was the roasted artichokes and they were delicious.
