Archetype exudes the passion and love of owners Ann and Howard Backen who relish the relationship between design, community and exquisite cuisine. The luxurious dining room still maintains a rustic element, bringing all of the senses together to the table. The inspired menu is comprised of hyper-local, seasonal and sustainable ingredients with a freshness not seen elsewhere in the Napa Valley.
Executive Chef Anthony Paone’s new menu is fresher, cleaner and greener, offering nutrient-dense dishes that might otherwise only be seen on a spa menu. Protein dishes are similarly feel-good food; all the fish, poultry, and meat items are sourced from farms that treat animals, sea life, and workers with ultimate respect. Let the thoughtful design and the power of a shared meal at Archetype elevate your human spirit.

Our server was very attentive and polite. The good we ordered (Norwegian Benedict & Buddha Bowl) were delicious, full of flavor!!! Then we ordered the Maple Pecan Donut holes which was amazingly great, not too sweet and the cream was the best! We were seated inside with a beautiful ambience.

We were here for lunch on President’s Day, and it was pretty busy! Lots of families, couples, and friend groups here for brunch. An unassuming spot from the street but inside it was bright and airy with an energetic yet laid back vibe. Very cool! My hubby had a pork belly sandwich and he thoroughly enjoyed it. As a vegan, I greatly appreciated the options on the menu! I had a hearty cauliflower steak with some delicious sauces and accompaniments. Most folks were eating brunch so I imagine that’s outstanding too. Would definitely recommend a meal here!

We were greeted by an unpleasant and rather firm hostess who said "Well, you have to sit outside if you want dinner." The patio was freezing, and she didn't really care if we stayed for dinner or not. She told us "I can't move a table of 6!!!" Of course, when I went to look, only four people were at the table inside.
The waiter was more than pleasant, however, but having a cold drafty seat in the middle of winter and during a very cold snap made the meal less than appetizing.
Being a local, I see no need to return, and there are plenty of other places on Main Street that would offer a warmer, more pleasant experience.

Disappointed in the service especially after several previous positive experiences. Very slow even the dessert took a long time to arrive. Probably not going back for a while.

Great vegan & gluten-free options. They were very acccomading to our dietary restrictions. The ambiance was classy without being stuffy. Although, the portions seemed to be on the smaller side everything was filling & quite tasty.
The plant-based ice cream is a must-try!

Super job all around! This was my first time, and I found that Archetype actually delivered on the promise of Napa valley. Awesome staff, really good food, great atmosphere that really captures the feel of so much of the best of what St. Helena can be. What floored me was how the menu addressed the needs and fantasies of both vegetarians and Paleo people at the same time! Who could pull that off? I’ll be back!

We sat in the covered patio which had heaters that kept us very comfortable. The decor is really nice. Service excellent. Food was healthy and delicious . We were splitting the main courses between 2 and they served us the split portions. That was very nice of them. Would go back again.

We had a lovely dinner and experience at Archetype. My only food comment - I had the Buddah Bowl and was happy about the brown rice but, the rice was just a big clump. It did not blend with the other ingredients.

Thank you for asking.

The halibut had a nice golden brown crust on it with delicious sides to go with. The cauliflower steak is something I hope they add to their menu permanently! It was a very large portion, filling and had so many textures and flavors that mended well together, some spice too. The butternut squash soup was unlike any I've had before. They have plenty of vegetarian and vegan options. A cozy place to go for dinner with the lights down low. Highly recommend for the picky eater.

Noon reservation...waited a long time to be served.
Hostess did give us complimentary doughnut holes.
I'd noted in my reservation it was my friend's birthday, but nothing mentioned nor done for her.
Accidentally left the other half of our eggs benedict in a bag on the table...my error.
Total charge written in by wait person...I'd not intended to give a tip.
Not a happy experience.

We arrived earlier than reservation ( b/c the restaurant is ALWAYS short staffed!!!)
We had great service and food was delicious, but as usual when restaurant was getting busier we were totally forgotten! Our dessert was supposed to be butterscotch pudding and was very runny and tasted like vanilla(ZERO Butterscotch flavor!!!)
As soon as we received dessert we were basically forgotten! No one took our untouched dessert or inquired about our meal! We waited 45 minutes to get our check!!! Yes, 45 minutes! I had to hunt a server ( not ours ) down and ask for the bill.
Seems like they could have turned the table sooner to accommodate another party.

They still have meat dishes on the menu so there is something delicious for everyone!

I’ve been to this restaurant twice and each time the service people spilled water on the table and had to be asked to wipe it off. I found it to be rude for the wait staff to lean over my plate to retrieve plates on the table while I was eating. I personally expect more from this establishment. Otherwise I would recommend as the food is good.

The food really has declined there over last year's. We ordered the halibut and it was so plain and not that tasty. Way too overpriced for what we got. Wished we stayed in instead of spending 300 bucks on below average food

Our server was adequate at best. She barely payed attention to us and made no attempt to be friendly or explain anything. The food was good, although we did request the deviled eggs to be brought out first and all of our food was brought out together, but that's not as important in the scheme of things. The ambiance was definitely the best part of the meal. What really irked me was that when I asked to see the menu for the sparkling wine offerings, she relayed that they offered both a blanc de blanc as well as a rose. What she failed to mention was the price difference between the two when I decided to go with the rose. So you can imagine my surprise when it turns out the rose I ordered cost $31 a glass. Not what I wanted to pay for a spontaneous last drink. I will not be heading here again or recommending it, which is unfortunate because the ambiance provides the perfect place to have a great meal or cocktail at.

We are a group of eight St. Helena and Yountville locals who were excited to try Archetype for brunch. Our reservation was at 11:00 am, and the restaurant was at maybe 45% capacity. Our drinks arrived 35 minutes after ordering, the coffees were lukewarm, and our food took over an hour. We ordered straight off the menu with no special requests. The potatoes that were ordered by a friend never arrived despite asking about them twice. The entrees ranged from a delicious cinnamon roll to "the hash is okay" to "I wouldn't recommend the biscuit pucks and gravy." By the end of the meal, we all agreed that we would never return to this restaurant.
