Wild Mushroom Fondue
We booked a table in the 'apres ski chalet' for fondue on Saturday night. We arrived to a moody receptionist who took us through the restaurant and out through the kitchen to a room which had been badly decorated with skis and some ski stuff but was essentially a converted store room. We weren't shown to a table and were left to it so we sat a free one. As we sat at the table completely ignored the kitchen staff kept bringing rubbish bins and food from the kitchen though the room past the table and out through a back door and down some stairs - not entirely sure this complies with health and safety laws and was really unpleasant and freezing cold every time they opened the door. The serving staff finally came over asked if we were having wine as she was going to the front so would save her a repeat trip - we said no. She then proceeded to ignore us some more and serve another couple at the bar. We sat and watched the kitchen staff drag more bins and retrieve food from the store for another 20 mins and then decided that nothing was going to get any better so we got up and left. No one seemed to care or ask where we were going and that pretty much sums up the whole place.
Such a great room and experience. The staff was so nice, and the fondue was delicious. Super fun for a weekend date night!
What a find! Such a cozy place to have dinner on a cold night, felt very in the know walking through the kitchen to get to the back room. Loved that there were several choices for the fondue and that we could mix and match. Service was friendly, thoughtful, and attentive—the second we needed more bread cubes they were there, drink orders promptly filled. Very cute decor, the disco ball made us feel right at home!
The cheese fondue was spectacular. The ambiance makes you feel like you just finished a day at the slopes in the Swiss Alps. Going behind the kitchen “Goodfellas Style” adds to the experience. The service was a little slow and the waitress forgot about our drinks, but overall this is a great place for a date night. Also- feel free to skip the chocolate fondue. It’s good, but nothing special.

We were at the back room and it is really noisy. We ordered foundue for 4, and they served a plate with just 4 pieces of apple, 2 tiny cold potatoes to share...the cheese is really good but the sides that came with the foundue to dip inside the cheese they are not good at all. It does not worth the money and is cash only. They should improve a lot the food to dip in the cheese.
This restaurant is a perfect secret spot to visit in NYC.
Food was great. Good value. Service was just ok mostly because there was only one waitress for the whole room.
What a great experience! The classic fondue was exceptional. We dined in the “Swiss Chalet” tucked in a hidden room behind the kitchen. What a treat! I highly recommend this spot.
Great little hidden restaurant with an intimate dining experience and excellent food and service. Would recommend for anyone trying to impress a date or just looking for a cool place to eat.

Fun space! Quirky experience. Cheese plate was awesome. Highly do NOT recommend the mushroom spatzel. Friendly waitress/bartender. We were the first people there at 7:30 (open at 7).
This was bad. Just a bad night out. Thought I was making a reservation for Cafe Select, had no idea I was really making a reservation for this dingy, crappy little “secret” room in the back of the restaurant. This could be cool, but the execution is very poor. They essentially took a storage room, and added a bar, some tables and some “decorations.” It smelled bad, and had the vibe of somebody’s “cool” basement in the suburbs. Also, they had the White Stripes blasting? Wtf is this 2006? Pass.
My boyfriend and I went on Feb 15th to celebrate Valentine’s Day on the Friday, and it was the best experience. Even though we booked through OpenTable, it still felt like a speakeasy because of its location through the restaurant... the decorations were so fun- lots of ski/winter gear and signs, and the ambiance is romantic and lovely. It’s a cozy set up.
The waitress was super nice, answered any questions we had, and gave us recommendations when we asked. We ordered a bottle of Prosecco, a half dozen oysters, the white truffle oil cheese fondue, and we had the chocolate fondue for dessert. It was a ton of food and everything was amazing- really great quality and reasonably priced for how good it is! The cheese fondue was really big and delicious. Highly recommend the white truffle oil cheese fondue!
Loved our experience here. Definitely hope to come back for future special occasions!

The fact that they accept cash only, should be clearly communicated when you reserve the table. Food was delicious and ambience very nice.

When we arrived at the restaurant they told us they could not find our reservation. Fine. When I showed the confirmed reservation on my phone they took our name down and told us the wait would be “5 minutes”. Five minutes turned into 40 minutes until we asked the hostess what the status was. They then informed us there was no table available for our original reservation and sat us in the main restaurant, not the back ski chalet area, with no apology or explanation. It’s fine if there was a glitch in the system, but we didn’t appreciate being lied to about the situation and being forced to wait an extraneous about of time when they knew they had no availability and when we could’ve easily gone to a different establishment instead of wasting an hour waiting for a nonexistent table.
Took my boyfriend for dinner for his birthday and the ambiance was so cute! The cheese platter was delicious as an appetizer. We tried the seafood tower which at first, we thought was a little pricy but it was definitely worth it and filled the both of us as we shared it. We were satisfied and my boyfriend loved it as his gift.
Great experience, food, service, music (background), ambiance! Was an amazing evening and have already told friends they should come here.
Going through the restaurant and the kitchen to the secret back room was definitely fun.The fondue and the speakeasy ambiance were to die for. Highly recommended.
Back room cramped and people coming in and out to the bar. Also draft from the door to the basement kept coming in.

This restaurant CONSISTENTLY overbooks reservations. It's happened three times to me that I've made a reservation and still had to wait 40 minutes for my table in the back because the party before isn't done. Clearly the restaurant does this on purpose to fill their own slots at the expense of their customer. Would not recommend.
Ran out of fondue... on a Monday night... at 9pm. We got there about 10 minutes early for our reservation and waited at the bar while our table was getting prepared. We ended up waiting another 30 minutes for them to take us back to the Apres Ski Chalet room. Finally, after we sat down, our waitress came to tell us that they were all out of Fondue. Absolutely ridiculous. At least have the decency to let people know you're out of your MAIN & MOST FAMOUS ITEM before you make them wait 30 minutes past their reservation time.
Horrible service. Never had such bad service in my life. The fondue came out wrong, and even the cook admitted that the fondue was made with too much liquor. The service was terrible, we ran out of bread and until we got the attention of the waiter, the fondue was burnt. What a waste of $65.
Weekend trip to NYC must. The truffle cheese fondue in the back ski chalet was amazing. Very cozy. Cool disco music. It was an experience we will never forget.
Repas excellent, plats typiques suisses. Par contre serveur et serveuses extrêmement désagréable ! Quand on commandait qqch on aurait dit qu'on l'embêtait ! Nous a poussé vers la sortie avant même que l'on finisse nos verres afin de pouvoir caser d'autres clients à notre table. Très déçu car la première fois que j'y suis allée c'était super !

Went for Fondue & Raclette. They no longer serve either. Very disappointing experience. Will not return.
Overall rating of 2 stars this time due to over crowding. I've been here before and the beauty of it comes from the cozy room made for about 4 tables of 2 total. Decided to take my friend here while visiting in town expecting the comfy semi private Swiss decor room only to find a party of 10 standing and taking up the entire space bumping into us and our table. All this plus a party of 4 and people at the bar. It did become a bit too cozy this time. Still good food and good service and I will be back.
This place was adorable and perfect for a quiet evening date. Great ambiance. Great food. Great drinks. The ski chalet is a small back room behind the kitchen which makes it feel like a little adventure to a semi- private VIP space with only 5 or so tables and a small bar. Super cool. Highly recommended.
The back room at Cafe Select is perfect for a charming, romantic date night. Would absolutely go back!
cozy and cool. speakeasy element leading to a small room, with kitschy "alps" decor that made one feel not fully teleported, but at least temporarily not in nyc. food: you had me at melted cheeses.
I surprised my girlfriend with this restaurant on the day before Valentines and we had a really lovely time. The place is a weird mix between fancy and casual. Our waiter was relaxed but not slow, and incredibly helpful. I got the lobster salad, which happily had more lobster than we expected, even after our server told us that it has a surprising amount of lobster. She got the Spatzli with wild mushroom, which was insanely good. I would recommend either, or both.
The one disappointment was the raclette. If you're seeing raclette on the menu and expecting a big hunk of cheese to be melted onto your plate in front of you, you're out of luck. It arrives as two cut pieces of cheese already on a plate. It's delicious, but it's not what we expected.
All in all, we would both happily go back. It's a cool backroom area, we love the atmosphere and the food was fantastic.
We went there for Valentine's Day. Upon arrival we were walked through the kitchen and into what looked like a basement. It definitely didn't seem like a very legal setup. I would not recommend this place to anyone🤢.

Unfortunately, service was very bad ...so you don't feel at all the "warm" atmosphere of a Swiss chalet.

We loved walking through the kitchen to this adorable ski chalet! The music was so much fun and the wine selection was superb. We ordered the truffle fondue and it came with a huge basket of bread, a plate full of pears/apples/gherkins/zucchini/carrots, and decided to add the charcuterie plate. The bread was perfect for dunking into the warm, delicious cheese but I must say, the charcuterie with the fondue was a pleasant surprise! So good! We were offered more bread throughout the night, but we could barely finish the first basket! My only wish would be if they had slightly cooked potatoes to dip in the fondue :) but overall - everything was really fun and delicious!
