Après in Iowa City, Iowa sits right in the center of Main Street in the Peninsula neighborhood and features a large, wraparound outdoor patio. Owner Emmett Carmichael designed Après to embody the appeal of a neighborhood restaurant but with plenty of modern features to its décor. The menu at Après features mainly comfort food. However, Carmichael has also worked to bring in menu items from local chefs and to integrate his own history of cooking sushi and other forms of Asian cuisine. The wild crab tacos, cheese fondue and poutine are all very popular here. You can also order the chicken and waffles, which comes with pieces of fried chicken tenders on individual squares of waffles for easy eating.
