This place gets great reviews everywhere, so I was pretty surprised when I walked in and the ambiance was like a bad sushi restaurant.... with brown carpet, weird lighting and hotel lobby music. The food was good. But it was really hard to overlook the ambiance...

The food was spectacular enough to distract me from the overly warm room. I had the oven-roasted whole fish, which was very, very good. Others tried the signature wild-boar lasagna, open squash ravioli, and meatballs. The oenophiles in our group ordered an expensive bottle of wine but ended up sending it back; they said it had probably been improperly stored. (The staff were very gracious about it.) If you love Italian, try ápizz.

Nicely dimmed lights, woodburn fire from the oven that you can see from dining room! Place pretty laid back and romantic. Service was really nice so as food. Wine list was pretty good as well. You can find nice bottle with a good value. Overal is a great experience. My fiancée and I just stopped by for dinner but felt like we on a date.

This is the first restaurant I've ever been to where everything was perfect. Went to celebrate a special occasion & it was impeccable; the food was amazing, the wine (Malbec) was amazing, the space was amazing!

We had the gnocchi & the bolognese. Wow the bolognese was the bet I've ever had, the flavor a surprised me because it was that good.

I highly recommend this place!

We wanted to try this restaurant when visiting New York because i had read John's book "a man and his meatball" which is the story of the chef and owner of Apizz.

I have to say that the restaurant was phenomenal and we will definitely visit again.

The meatballs are second to none and the ricotta cheese and bread were a delightful touch.

You will not be disappointed with this restaurant.

We love the pizza, salad and grilled fish at Appiz. We also manage to find parking in the streets that makes this place accessible for us since we are uptown. The food is tasty and the service is great. The prices are very popular and affordable.

Apizz is a warm and cozy setting with delicious food. We were startled, however, to be subjected to a kind of loud and dated disco beat-- boom,boom,boom-- that is not really even music in my opinion.
Even though we realized we weren't the only people dining, and didn't wish to be egocentric, it seemed hard to believe that the other diners were enjoying their food more because of the intrusive sound. We find it much more relaxing not to have to continually raise your voice at your dinner partner.
Fortunately, our waiter was kind enough to turn the volume down. We left him extra tip for this deed that ensured that our evening, instead of being ruined, ended well.
By the way, the bronzino and the gnocchi were excellent!

I have been here a few times and loved it, so I decided to have my birthday dinner there with a couple friends. The food was delicious, as usual, and the service was great! They really made my birthday dinner special. Notable plates are the gambero, the short ribs with gnocchi, and the meatballs. Thank you Apizz for another great dinner!

Apizz is not new -- but continues to be an attractive and terrific Lower East Side restaurant. One might be tempted to walk right past the unassuming entrance and miss a delicious meal -- unless you knew the lovely place with a wood-burnin oven that is inside. Its a quick walk to or from the Sunshine Theater. And you won't leave hungry or dissatisfied.

Salad was delicious, seafood risotto was amazing! My boyfriend ordered the chicken which ended up being a breaded cutlet and seemed pricey at $27 or so. Cocktails were ok.

My wife and I came here for our first "real" date, and literally fell in love over the butternut squash ravioli and the riccota-stuffed meatballs. We came again for our first anniversary with a group of 10 of our favorite couples, all of whom loved the place. And just last week, we went for our fifth anniversary, two days before we were to be wed. We love the food, service, and ambiance as much as we did on that first date. This restaurant will always have a very special place in our lives and it's certainly quite the place to add to ones history. I can't imagine having a single bad thing to say about it.

The restaurant has a nice look and feel inside, but it was WAAAAAY too hot. This is the second time I have had this experience there, and it really takes away from my appetite. Most of the food is good, but the appetizers seem to be the best part of the meal. I would not recommend the Gnocchi - too sweat and poor consistency. The server was pleasant and knowledgeable.

Every time we go to Apizz, we wonder why we don't come here more often. Food is consistently great! The branzino, meatballs and lasagna are favorites. And portion sizes are plentiful...even the salads are big enough to share. Service isn't bad but they're not that attentive so you may be waiting a while to order more drinks. That said, we will be going back sooner rather than later!

from start to finish it was a great meal. the service was fantastic, and the food was really good. the wine list has a little for everyone. the wine prices weren't over the top and reasonable compared to other restaurants in nyc. everything we ordered was on point and wasn't disappointed on anything. all around a great meal. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone. thank you for a great evening apizz.

Just around the corner from Katz's Deli, Russ & Daughters, and the Landmark indie film theater, this neighborhood Italian is a little gem. On what looks like an almost abandoned block just below E. Houston, you find a warm, almost intimate interior of woods and warm fire light. And "where's the fire"? Emanating from a large brick oven where almost everything is cooked - not just the flat pizza-apps. The service is attentive - the atmosphere relaxing, even pretty - and the food is outstanding and imaginative (a Veal Bolognese with bow-tie pasta is brilliant). Not "gourmet" - but a real find.

If you're walking too fast, you'll walk right by this great little spot so slow when you smell the wood burning. A good wait staff try their best but need to up their game to keep up with the great food. With that said, I recommend to Italian food lovers and go often.
