My husband and I enjoyed not only our meal but your staff is wonderful. The time you are greeted at the podium and then escorted to your table, you know your dining experience is going to be great. Our waiter Jose was very knowledgeable about the menu. He suggested a few items that were very popular. We ordered as he suggested and it was great. We had the crab cakes and Karaage. Our main entree was the Sake miso marinated salmon and Tonkatsu, fried pork cutlet.
We had Panna Cotta for dessert it was DELICIOUS 😋
Next time we are going to try their sushi.
Thank you for a wonderful dining experience.
Service is exceptional at this place. Jose was phenomenal. It was our first time at Aozora, and certainly not our last. Great selection of the best sashimi and sushi in the East Bay. Aozora's mixologist offers some of the most unique craft cocktails. The restaurant offers a long list of Whiskey Flights (inexpensive and great value - since it can be pricey). Try it for the experience and enjoy! Cheers!
We went for a friend’s birthday. She was visiting from out of town and where she lives there is no sushi for a couple of hours. It is what she wanted for her birthday. She loved it here! The service is good and considering it was pretty busy, attentive. The fish tastes so fresh and the cuts for the sushi are precise. The rolls are rolled tightly so they don’t start unraveling when you pick up a piece with your chop sticks. Our friend had their miso soup, which we hadn’t tried yet. She said it was also delicious. They brought her a small dessert for her birthday, which we thought was very nice. It was the matcha cake. It was also nicely done and very good, and I’m not even a fan of matcha. This is only our second time here, but it is now our go to place for sushi.
We had outside dining for four. The server was very pleasant but the food was very slow to arrive. She apologized and said they were extremely busy. We really didn’t mind as we were enjoying the yummy craft cocktails. The food was delicious when it arrived and overall we were very satisfied. The floor under our table was extremely dirty and sticky but we did not complain as we were too busy eating and talking. We really enjoyed all the food.
They were just opening up as we were entering and all the servers were busily cleaning tables and chairs. The sushi chefs were getting their station ready. Everything was really clean. We were greeted right away and seated. Our server came over gave us menus, asked if we had been to this restaurant before (we hadn’t). He offered to answer any questions or to make suggestions. Their beer menu is pretty broad, and their drink menu had a few twists.
Now, the sushi... it was so fresh, very well cut and rolled. Their many rolls made it hard to make up our minds. But we all ordered something different, and we each loved what we had. This will be our new sushi place.
I would rate this restaurant very high. Service was friendly, helpful and attentive. Drinks were good. Sushi was out of this world.
Yeah, we’re going back....
Yummy yummy rolls. Cozy outdoor dining. Perfect spot for a casual lunch or dinner.
Sashimi plater with 20 pieces was amazing. Aozora roll was also outstanding. Service was great as well
Portion was small for the teriyaki steak but still good. Sushi rolls and toro were amazing. My server was polite & professional… the only problem I had was the side door for the servers to exit & enter when serving patio. It slams shut every 30 seconds &
Became very aggravating & difficult to block out. Next time I’ll just opt for patio.
Beat sushi in East Bay. Good food good service good drinks
SUCH GOOD FOOD! Service was excellent!
This was our first time eating at Aozora. We were seated on the outdoor patio in what appeared to be a pleasant area. However, we were overtaken by bees-which were unrelenting. A few different serves acknowledged that this was a significant problem for the restaurant and stated that if we switched patio tables we would have the same problem. We asked for our food to go. Upon entering the restaurant it was apparent that there was an open table-we were told in a rude tone-that this table had a reservation. We requested boxes-and it appeared to both of us that the waiter/manager had little interest in helping to make our experience better His manner was abrupt and unpleasant. It was surprising that there was no effort made on the managers part to attempt to improve our experience. We were disappointed in this restaurant and will not return.
Went to Aozora for my brother's last meal before heading back to college, mainly because of the ambience and location, based off photos off Yelp/Google.
The good: appetizers were good, sashimi too.
The bad: Appetizers came quickly, then had to wait almost 30-40 minutes for the sushi/sashimi to come out. Waiters took 10 min to bring a water refill. Portions were small relative to the price and other competitors, and the taste of the sushi rolls weren't any better than competitors.
The restaurant is clearly understaffed and I can't recommend going until they manage to get their system working properly.
Fantastic. First timer, and I will return for certain. I prefer sashimi and uni, excellent, and their rolls, tempura, gyoza did not disappoint at all finished with great Santa Barbara uni. Their liquor selection was impressive. And saki menu was great too. I dined outdoors and didn’t notice if they had bar dining. There was indoor and outdoor dining. Service was great as well. It’s tucked in the back behind Piatti, and well worth the visit and reasonably priced in my opinion.
Food incredible as always
Fantastic sushi. Great service throughout the meal
Food and service was great but we were not able to enjoy our meal. We had a party of 10 and they sat us next to a big tree which I think had a wasp nest. We had a swarm of wasps and they landed on most of the food. We were the only table affected. The staff tried to help but it just got so bad that we got up and left. We were hoping for the restaurant to give us some kind of discount since we weren’t able to eat our food. Was so disappointed at how this was handled. They could have moved us.
I mentioned at reservation and when we arrived that we were celebrating a birthday. However our birthday girl didn’t even receive a scoop of ice cream or anything. This was my first experience at a restaurant where our celebration was completely ignored. So probably not the best place to go for a birthday dinner. Other then that it was great
This has got to be the BEST restaurant serving Japanese cuisine that I have been to so far in the Bay Area. The Philadephia roll and the veggie king roll were so delicious! Our server, Nami, and the chef were very accommodating and made sure that we had exactly what we wanted. For example, they customised the sushi rolls for people in my group who had food allergies. They also had a high chair ready for my son though he didn't use it because he slept throughout our lunch. We took the last lunch slot, which allowed for a quiet dining experience. The ambience in the restaurant was also excellent. I am definitely coming back!
We arrived earlier than our reservation and they were able to accommodate our large party. The staff was nice and very helpful. Overall just great customer service!
Really amazing high quality food! The wagyu was one of the best I’ve ever had - came with a certificate of authenticity and it melted in my mouth. Our waiter was very knowledgeable of the menu and provided amazing recommendations. The white chocolate dessert is a must try! Service was great
Excellent food with good but not great service. Prices are on the high.
We were pleased with the quality of the food. Everything seemed very fresh, tasty and the presentation was very nice. We were seated right away outside where we had requested but our table was pushed up against a railing and across from the side door into the restaurant which banged loudly each time it was open and closed by servers and patrons. It felt very cramped. We were offered another table but it didn't seem an improvement. It was disappointing since I had made the reservation several days prior and there were empty seats in better areas that we were told were "reserved". Our sever was very sweet and helpfully informative. We enjoyed her company but several of our dishes did not arrive when they should have and we had to reorder them. I'm not clear it this was the kitchen or her though and because she was so sweet we did not hold this against her. Overall, we were happy enough with the food that we would go back but next time we would insist on a better table.
This is now our favorite sushi place in the area. The fish is high quality and not over priced. This is the second time we dined here and we usually order nigiri and every piece was excellent especially the toro. Thier rolls are also very good with an excellent variety and their A5 Wagyu is legit. We used to be regulars at Amakara but stopped going after continued poor service, declining quality, and the soul less atmosphere at their new location. This is our new favorite.
The restaurant was absolutely amazing. My BF and I went there last night for date night, service was great, food was amazing and drinks were creative and fantastic. We will definitely go back!!
We went on a Friday night. Our server was super nice. We ordered the Brussel sprouts and hamachi appetizers to start. We got the Brussel sprouts in fairly good time from what I remember. However, the hamachi appetizer did not come out shortly after. After more waiting, my husbands tonkatsu dinner arrived. I ordered a roll and we both order nigiri sushi as well. My husband had finished his entire dinner and my food still did not arrive. A few min later our hamachi appetizer arrived. I was telling the server to just cancel our nigiri order and asked where my rolls were. He said the sushi chefs were behind this evening and they were actually coming up shortly. It would have been nice to have ate my rolls at the same time as my husband was eating his dinner. I almost feel like they shouldn’t allow so many people to sit and dine if they can’t handle the rush. The wait was extremely long. I’ve never had to wait this long for my sushi. The Brussel sprouts were overly seasoned with I think tonkatsu sauce? I think if they had put just a little it would have been great. Overall, probably would not come back here.
Black Cod Entree and Green Matcha cake dessert was exquisite. Service was excellent. Can’t wait to go back.
Arthur the bartender is a mixology genius! Dude makes a delicious Paper Plane. Rowa our waitress was very professional and knowledgeable. Overall a great experience last night.
Excellent and very yummy!! That night it was very quiet!
The food & specialty cocktails were delicious once they were finally served. It took almost an hour to receive sushi our order. Take out next time!
Great fish. Somewhat slow but it’s the coming out of the pandemic. Great location. Large parking lot. We will return often.
I’m a devotee of authentic Japanese food. I was delighted to see that there was a highly rated Japanese restaurant within a few miles of where I live. The dinning experience was ok, perhaps a notch higher than the other “Japanese “ restaurants around here (save Sasa, which is in a class by itself). But the pricing was in par with the more expensive restaurants in the Bay Area. I don’t recommend this place.
The restaurant is located a bit away from downtown, which is a plus for me, with ample parking space and very pleasant, tree lined, relaxing area. I'm glad this location has been revived with several dining options.
The sushi options are numerous, which could be a bit tedious to go through. We ended up asking our server some recommendation which she gracefully obliged. What we ordered
tasted very goo, and the sashimi were fresh .
Wait staff is very courteous and accommodating.
Value-wise, it's a bit pricier compared to similar places in the adjacent cities.
The location though is nice and quiet, off the oft-times busy downtown restaurant strip.
Staff did not seem friendly nor helpful. Overall experience was drawn out and painful.
Love the food and service. We ordered salmon sashimi, Aozora roll and crunchy tuna roll. Had sake samplers. Likes the matcha cake. All excellent! (Did not like scallop roll recommended by the waiter).
But don’t go there on hot evenings. Their high ceilings result in inefficient air conditioning. The diners next to us left because it was so hot inside.
Food was fantastic as always, but on this occasion we ordered a second round of sushi 35mins later we hadn’t been offered a second drink and the food never came. We eventually cancelled the order and got the check. Loved the food, but the service left a lot to be desired this time which unfortunately tainted the whole visit. Food not arriving is one thing, but not even being asked if we’d like a second drink while we wait is getting basics wrong..
Great service and awesome food.
Quality of fish was not the level you would expect for the price they’re charging. Sushi rolls were nicely done and good to look at. Expected better quality tastes.
Pretty good, but not a special experience at all
Food is good but a bit pricey
a bright new sushi option in contra costa county, extra time and dollars were spent on the decor and the service was tremendous as well!
