AOC Ratings and Reviews
We had a Groupon and the meal was very good but the cost of the bottled water kind of offset the entire Groupon. We've eaten here 3 times and each time every single item was a bit too salty. Entrees were perfectly nice, better than a fast casual restaurant, salad nicoise and a special of cassoulet. Server was -- to be nice, a bit clueless, as every time we've eaten here -- asked how the cassoulet was and she said her dad had eaten it elsewhere and liked it -- . Hostess was smarter but we found we were billed a WHOPPING 7 DOLLARS FOR EACH OF TWO 8 OUNCE PELLIGRINOS. Folks, you can get a litre for 2 bucks easy at the grocery store. Left feeling extremely ripped off with a lame "Sorry about that" from the hostess. Warning - if you didn't get it -- don't order sparkling water, they only have one size and it's 7 bucks for the price of a bottle of half decent wine. Go the the San Pellegrino website and you can buy a case of 24 for 17.99. That's not just a rip off, that's a rip off with the INTENTION of ripping you off.
First time here. I returned two more times within three days! A warm, friendly spot in a good area of the Middle/West Village. Everyone greets you and gives special, personal service. Food is excellent French with some American accents. Full meals at cozy bar if desired. Also large room in back for groups and an outdoor dining plaza open to the sky. Put AOC in the "gem" category!
Lovely bistro setting for great brunch. The coffee was Amazing, which is key for brunch. Croque Monsieur and Croque Madame were both fine tho not outstanding, but the frites (french fries) were just what you hope for in a bistro, super thin, crispy and delish. The crosissant was also the real deal and made the whole experience truly memorable. Cute little place and in the warmer months they have a lovely garden out back.
We've been here a few times for early dinners, which were fantastic, but this time we went for a 9pm dinner and the crowd was loud and kind of annoying. I would recommend dinner here when you can sit in the front or outside but not in the back dining area. The duck breast was also over cooked and I was not expecting the pepper sauce on the duck, I wish I was warned.
The ambiance of this bistro is perhaps its strongest selling point. The menu is fine. Typical choices and most reasonably well prepared though we’ve found some inattention from the cooks during peak or slow times. Service can be spotty: some friendly, accommodating staff; others providing service when one asks—several—times. Pricing is moderate. The wine list is solid. AOC is a reliable choice with a charming front room and garden in the good weather.
My wife and I usually eat in our neighborhood diner, but since we were going to the theatre in the Village, I thought I'd treat her to something better. I've always had happy times at AOC, and it didn't disappoint. I had the salmon and it was as good as any salmon dish I remember having.
AOC once again delivered! We've been coming there for years and we had another great meal with friends. AOC has a nice vibe and the back is spacious. Sebastian and the team greeted us and service was excellent. The food is always good. Our party had the fish special, cassolet, moules & frites and everyone walked away happy.
It was my first time to dine in this part of New York so it was a welcome change. I tried the small bowl of mussels Provençal and my mom tried the duck confit leg - big portions. We also tried the duck rilette and sausage platter. I liked the ambiance and the patio has a beautiful Parisienne mural.
Everything was fine - especially the food - until 5 or 10 minutes before we left. At that time two musicians started playing, and the saxophone was simply too loud for the small room. We'll be back, but 1/2 an hour earlier.
Did I mention the chef is a genius?
Food was very good. But we (3 women) found it odd that after we had ordered, we heard the waitress tell 2 other tables the evening’s specials when she hadn’t mentioned it to us. Likewise, as soon as we finished our entrees, she brought our check without asking if we wanted coffee or dessert. And she did ask the other tables! No idea why. Was it because the other tables were couples? Or because we used a Groupon? Just found it odd.
Walking toward the Cherry Lane we happened upon Milk and Cookies and had cappuccino and split an enormous salted caramel brownie. So all’s well that ends well.
The food was absolutely fantastic. Couldn't give it enough stars. The truffle mac & cheese was out of this world!!!!
The service on the other left a lot to be desired. I think there were at least 5 different people who came to our table, plus the busboy. We were sharing dishes, which we made clear, and we had to ask multiple times for clean, additional plates so we weren't using our bread plates. There were only two of us. Once we were done, all of the staff disappeared and we had to go searching to get our check. Once we did, we asked to divide our check between 2 credit cards, and they did not do that so we had to wait longer for them to fix it. I'm still waiting for my credit.
If you can order to take out, I recommend it. Again, the food it wonderful.
We were here on a gorgeous fall night so got to sit outdoors. It was a bit noisy but ambience was nice. The service was mediocre. With a tiny table, there wasn’t enough space when our mains arrived. Our cheese platter was still on and the server didn’t even help to manage the table well. Food was alright. Nothing exceptional. Not sure we’ll go back.
Have been to A.O.C. many, many times with friends, for celebrations and have recommended it to friends. EVERYONE has told me it's a great place, especially the French food.
My personal favorite is the steak tartar made table side to order.
Will continue to go until they are no longer there.
I have eaten at AOC for lunch but this was my first dinner-time meal. The ambiance is very West Village (homey) and the service and attitude of the staff was friendly and unpretentious. We had an excellent meal, one from the regular menu and one from the list of specials. I would certainly go again for a great casual and warm experience for the heart and the tummy!
I've never written a restaurant review but felt like I had to warn others about this terrible place.
I have never had such poor service in my life. It took them 30 minutes to bring us water for our group of 7, another 30 for drinks (they forgot 2 of them for another 20 minutes), and then they didn't even bring the food out at the same time. At every step of the way, they were completely incompetent- never said hello, didn't bring our forks and knives out, had to ask for everything 5 times etc.
My friend got his food 15 minutes after we all finished eating and we had to ask 5 people where his food was. Also- it wasn't at all busy!! The front of the restaurant was completely empty, the back had a few patrons, and the patio was mostly full.
Then the waiter insulted us for leaving a 15% tip instead of 20%. Honestly at that point he should have received nothing. The manager said he would comp us a round a drinks but 20 minutes later it still hasn't arrived and we just had to abort mission and get the heck out of there. They finally brought out a couple drinks- I guess we were supposed to share glasses- but we just left them. You'd think the would have been apologetic about messing up every step of the way but no- they really didn't care. It would've been so easy to just send out a quick round of drinks and say sorry for all the mishaps, but they just didn't care.
It was so embarrassing to have planned a brunch at this place and I will never come back here again. My friends and I have very extensive networks and will be advising that our friends do the same and stay clear.
