ANZU Ratings and Reviews
We were seated 30 minutes after our 8pm reservation for the Christmas dinner buffet, and then at 9pm, we were told that the buffet was closed. Over $300 (including 18% gratuity added automatically for a party of only three) for mostly appetizers. Very disappointing experience and not good way to celebrate Christmas.
Had reservations for Christmas dinner buffet. Overall very good. Some of the meat was dry, but that par for the course on most buffets. My main complaint was that I had a reservation at 7:00PM and was not seated until a little after 7:30PM. I understand it's Christmas and you can't predict how long everyone will stay, but that was a bit excessive.
After a number of prior visits with excellent service and pretty good food, Christmas dinner was disappointing. I had the wait thirty minutes past my reservation time for a table. I had to actually ask for an ETA re when I could expect my table before anyone acknowledging the wait.
When we finally received our table, I expressed my frustration to the hostess and manager and they seemed stunned that I would be frustrated.
When we are finally shown our table there were at least five empty tables that would fit my party of four.
After this start, the food was mediocre albeit it was a buffet. The quality was much better at past Christmas buffets. All in all a very disappointing visit. They overbooked the tables and did not plan for the number of reservations.
Good food. Expensive. Automatic 18% tip (which we knew about) for buffet is ridiculous. Wine >$18/glass and they fill 20% of the glass. Love the variety of a buffet and like the dining area but you definitely pay an excessive price. This is our 6th time for holiday dinner at Anzu and the food this time was by far the best experience of the 6 times we’ve been.
We were visiting SF for the Christmas holidays and after much research decided on Anzu for the Christmas Day buffet. Worst decision! The food was below average, they must have the most untalented chef !!! While the menu sounded great the execution of the dishes was poor. The only dishes that somewhat met my expectations was a squash soup and a savory bread pudding. The buffet was $75 per person and was barely worth $25 ! For a family of four I paid$425 and was sorely disappointed! Our dinner next day at Bouchon more than made up for this mess they called a dinner. Their deserts were store bought pies and cheese cakes . I have written reviews for open table in the past but have never received a response, so let’s see if they post this review
Lovely room, great service , good sushi. Only issue we had was there were two diners who were quite loud and since they were known to the restaurant, employees came over to their table frequently to chat. These visits made it too noisy for us to hear each other talk. Small complaint.
My group of 4 found Anzu when we were looking for a place to eat after a matinee show at the Curran. We had dressed up for the occasion so we were particularly drawn in by the swanky ambiance and appetizing drink menu. There were so many delicious-sounding items on the food menu, it was difficult to decide what to order! Several people at the table did the 2-course prix fixe, others did rolls or steak, and dessert. Everything was really tasty and the service was amazing (in particular, our waiter, Ason, was super attentive and friendly). We felt so fortunate that we were able to grab a last-minute reservation - for how good our experience was, we would expect it to be much more difficult :) Looking forward to returning in the future!
The Open Table description should state that this is in the Nikko Hotel. Typical Hotel fare, overpriced for what you get, and the sushi was mediocre at best. If you want to see a Sushi menu with the option to get pasta, then this is the place for you. Otherwise, go elsewhere to seek a true sushi experience. So many other better options.
