John and Kyle were amazing. Their service was top notch, they took the best care of us and never missed a bear. The service was impeccable, the food was awesome and delicious. I would totally recommend Anzu and will revisit on my next trip.
Beautiful Japanese inspired restaurant within Hotel Nikko.
First reservation of the evening for a daughter-in-laws birthday dinner. Was great food, nice ambiance, but expensive. $$
We enjoyed out pre-theater meal very much. The wait staff was attentive to our needs and the sushi was very good. We shared the brussel sprouts for an appetizer and they were outstanding.
Wedding anniversary dinner. I highly recommend Anzu. Service was perfect, food amazing and the restaurant is just wonderful. Much more than I expected!!!
Unfortunately we came for the pre fixe NYE dinner and the food was so terrible it was completely inedible. The almost raw salmon was super fishy and had soggy soba noodles soaked in salmon caviar juice with pickled cabbage…incredibly fishy with a side of sour. All of us sent it back & got the second entree option which was pistachio lamb. It was over cooked and tough on the outside, but totally purple raw in the middle, served with cold black eyed peas. The dinner was so bad we had to laugh about it the rest of the night. The desert was like a stale bran muffin. At $150 a person, it was the most expensive inedible food I’ve ever had. Our server was very kind & gave us some complimentary mocktails, but I unfortunately cannot recommend this restaurant to anyone.
At $150 a meal I was expecting better. Wine pairings were not available and neither was the 3 course option. The food was good, but overall our expectations were not met. At that price point we could have gotten a better value elsewhere.
Fix price NYE dinner. The regular dinner was reasonably good, however my wife is lactose intolerant, and the non-lactose substitutions were pretty plain and not interesting at all.
Food was good but the portions were small. Service was great.
Excellent service. We celebrated New Year's eve here with our two kids. They accommodated a kids menu for our 9 year old
and an entree only order for our 11 year old
while my husband and I enjoyed the prefix NYE menu. All the tables were spaced out.
This was my first time at Anzu and I enjoyed it immensely. The menu was varied and everything was well prepared. The service was excellent. I'l be back.
LOVED our dinner here. They were so kind and the food was amazing.
We were staycationing in downtown SF over Christmas. We made the trip next door to Hotel Nikko from the Hilton to have breakfast. Been here a few times before and have always enjoyed it. Classy ambiance, affordable menu options.
Awful food. Small portions. For a Christmas dinner it was the most unsatisfying dining experience I have ever had. Horrid value at $115. We needed to eat later at home to make up for minuscule crab cake. Desserts tasted thawed from frozen.
This restaurant's maitre'd treats single diners like second-class citizens, requiring them to sit in the bar even though the dining room is empty. Food was mediocre and served with such rapidity it felt unpleasantly rushed. For the price paid there are much better options available. Dine elsewhere.
ANZU has the Ambiance and mood of a gourmet restaurant along with attentive service… however this is only a cover for bland tasteless cuisine. First off I made a reservation for the a la carte menu… their normal menu on Christmas Day… it gave that option rather than going for the five course Christmas dinner. Once me and significant other arrived we were told that no there was not a choice only the five course meal was being served… a five course meal sounds great on the surface for a $133 per person it should at least be… good. Well I was wrong… as an appetizer we were presented with what tasted like cheap clam chowder in a shot glass… not a cup or bowl utilizing fresh sourdough bread which SF is famous for no… literally in a shot glass… then a crab cake… yes a single crab cake not much larger than the head of a quarter… it had no taste… other than salt and tasted as if they got crab straight from a can… the salad looked as if a toddler had thrown random ingredients on a plate then Jackson pollock had done his best spraying dressing across the plate it was bitter… with no counter from the dressing or other ingredients… finally the main dish I got the duck while my partner got the sole… the sole was bland with the strongest flavor coming from the butter she had to use salt and pepper to make what should have been a light airy delight with aromas and taste worth the price but no it was nearly inedible. My duck was… ok… no rich flavor to speak of somewhat dry… it was meh… I asked for the check before dessert came… do not come here… maybe their normal dinner menu is far superior but I doubt it… for the cost of nearly $340 for the both of us… it was the worst dinner I’ve ever experienced… service was good maybe they are this attentive cause they know how poor the food is… cocktails were ok… but that’s about it… my bag of takis on the way home to Southern California had more complexity in its flavor pallet then this entire meal…
Always enjoy coming here. Great ambiance. Especially great before the show at Feinstein’s with the 3 hour parking. The chicken breast was so tender and juicy and the tempura delicious. I wish they served a bowl of rice with it though.
The food was very good. There was only one waiter for a pretty full restaurant so it was slow. We didn’t really mind but I can see how some might
Arriving mid-morning on Sunday after being denied an opening at the Plaza (even though staying there) and happy to be welcomed, provided a great selection and perfect service at great value.
Excellent beef short rib, Umami Caesar salad and Sushi. Wait staff was very attentive and there was a nice quiet but casual ambiance. Food was reasonably priced but $17 for a glass of California Pinot (not a famous brand) seemed a bit steep. It was their lowest priced wine by the glass (whole bottles were 65 and up). All in all a lovely experience and would recommend for a nice date night.
Wedding anniversary celebration. A bit pricey but the food was really good. We had blackened cod and steak. Service was top notch. Deduct 1 star because we complained about the eggplant appetizer too salty. They did not offer to replace it nor deduct it from the check. Being we were celebrating I did not fee to complain
Service was great, food was great, the atmosphere was lovely. We liked that it was an easy walk from anywhere in the Union Square area where we were staying.
Parking - Valet service was not available. We were told that the parking lot was full despite making an "experience" reservation with Valet option. The staff were not willing to help us. We parked at a garage by spending $40 more.
Food Options - NO entree options for vegans, and very limited vegan options overall. The signature vegan maitake dish was not available (primary reason we picked the restaurant).
The restaurant was a huge disappointment. We did go to the concert at the hotel, which was amazing.
Thanksgiving dinner was ok. I like my food temperature hot and it was warm at best. After a long day of travel it was mediocre at best especially for the price. It was a holiday so, it was better than some. I will try agai since I am staying at the hotel.
Surprisingly awful food.
Pork as tough as shoe leather.
Bad tasting vegetables.
Overall a bad experience.
Never, never again.
We had a lovely breakfast that replaced our family Thanksgiving since my husband had to work. Besides the loud family taking two tables chatting loudly to each other, everything else was wonderful.
We enjoyed complimentary breakfast two days in row as part of our room reservation. The food was outstanding, and the service was absolutely excellent both days. Wonderful people and wonderful food!
Wonderful sushi. Excellent service. We will definitely return
You must not miss a chance to experience their food!
We found this resturant on line and was very impressed. Great service and wonderful food. Would highly recommend.
Nice staff, food very good. Wines expensive but cocktails are good!
delicious....tempura sweet potatoes, koba noodle salad, short ribs. oh my ! we will be back....
We had made reservations for Anzu because we were seeing a show at the Nikko hotel at 7:30. We were told that the dining room was full so we needed to be seated in the bar. We were also told they're not usually open on Sunday but opened for the pre-theater guests. Well We were seated at a little after 6 and everyone there was going to the show yet we only got our appetizer at almost 7 so we had to cancel our dinner for the server was unable to tell us when we might get our food and even so there wouldn't have been enough time. So we cancelled. The server was very nice. He completely understood and we don't blame him. I think, however, the place was understaffed and they didn't calculate correctly the number of pre-theater guests and the scheduling needed.
The service was slow, the food was tasty but very small portions for the price.
Limited menu and service was disappointing
Amazing food and staff
Made Rez 2 weeks in advance for 7:15p on a Saturday evening. Showed up 8 minutes early. Ended up seated in the lounge with basketball on TV. Not the romantic evening we’d imagined. It then took 24 minutes to actually receive our first beverage order - a beer and a martini. Service was altogether neglectful, and the food was uninspired at best, and utterly inedible (dried hard squash rinds with the cod entre) at some points. To be honest… I wouldn’t recommend Anzu to anyone. Seriously disappointing.
Our reservation was for 6:45. We arrived at 6:30.
We sat at the bar until 6:10 then were seated. Kyle was our server and treated us well and turned in our order in very short time. We received our salads shortly after that.
However, the kitchen did not prepare our food until 7:40 which was too late to eat as we were going to see the Storm Large. Kyle was very gracious and apologized for the poor kitchen service. I want to be clear that he was not at fault. It was the kitchen. We enjoy seeing shows at the Nikko and would like to be able to have a good meal at Anzu but only if the kitchen is properly prepared to serve us on time.
Any recommendation to a friend would be conditional on being properly served the next time.
