I was hoping for more Japanese type or unusual menu choices. There were three slightly unusual items. I had the avocado toast with soft boiled egg and pork belly. The toast was cold. There was only one egg and the pork belly serving was miserly. Someone else had mochi waffles. They looked good. Someone else had the omelette. It looked good too. But at this price, I expected something amazing. There was a pianist playing an electric piano. He was OK. I'm a pianist and my whole family are musicians. I was also hoping for a better pianist. I wouldn't steer people away. But I probably won't go back because there are so many restaurants in SF. I'll try a new place next time. I would neither recommend this place to a friend nor would I tell them not to go. It's meh. The service was superb and impeccable.
Always Excellent service & quality food and preparation
We started with a couple cocktails and Rock Wagu Beef appetizer,,which was served tableside and we got to cook the beef to our preference on the sizzling hot stone. It came with spices, salt and 3 sauces to dip the beef in. It is pricey but perfect for a date night!
We then had garlic noodles with shrimp and chicken with citrus sauce and grilled carrots. The food was excellent as was the service!
Went out for a date after a long time. The food was good, but there isn’t a big menu to choose from. It’s a typical hotel restaurant
This was our first experience...let me start by stating that the food is quite good. Quality of ingredients, presentation and flavor/taste all receive high marks. It was reminiscent of my past visits to Japan and this was a pleasant surprise. Service was solid and courteous. I was pleasantly surprised to see the number of patrons who seemed to fall into 2 predominant categories...guests of the hotel and participants who were having dinner before moving onto a live floor show that is held on property. We were probably the only couple that didn't fit either profile. The one notable detraction was that interior design of the restaurant looked as though it had not been updated since the Nikko hotel's 1987 opening. While well maintained, it is a tired, bland design that would really benefit from a refresh. That said, we will definitely be coming back.
The food was very good and the staff was friendly. They were conscientious to bring our meals quickly as we were attending a show and needed to be out in time to be seated.
The food was over-priced for what it is. The atmosphere is good.
I had my bachelorette dinner here and it was amazing. They gave us all champagne to start with to celebrate and we ordered a bunch of the rolls as well as the rock which was whack you over a hot rock that you cook yourself which was really cool. We had a green tea cheesecake for dessert overall was a great experience.
Amazing service. Incredible food!
Avoid the Caesar salad. It was dry, with little taste. Needs a richer dressing.
In the past we have enjoyed Anzu many times. I forgive them this time I guess because of Covid but while the servers were very nice and polite it took over twenty five minutes to get my vodka straight up. Way too long to get the entrees. And had to request to get our dessert and the check as we were just minutes before our show was to begin. Wouldn't recommend until they get their act back together.
Great place, but still has the feel of a hotel restaurant. They’re lounge is cool. The service was dragging but only because of the pre-show dinner crowd. Everyone is super friendly. The dashi broth for the black cod is to die for!!!
the Service is exceptional. Brought my friend for a birthday brunch and the staff made sure that we had a great experience.
They Remembered us from a month before
Brunch for Mother’s Day was great - quick seating, attentive but not intrusive service. Great food - loved the beignets & blueberry corn muffins!! Will be back.
Sunday Brunch ambiance was fabulous. Service was so attentive & wonderfully pleasant! Addition of the smooth live piano music was icing on the cake. Truth be told it is a bit pricey but worth the treat!
Thank you so much for your kind review and lovely comments DoreenM! We are glad you had a great time with us during Brunch and hope to welcoming you soon. Stay safe and healthy, Dominique
ANZU is an excellent choice for a very quiet Sunday brunch in downtown San Francisco. Due to the COVID restriction of late, this restaurant has been lightly attended, but the whole staff made us feel welcomed. Given all of that, we will return in the near future...
Dear DavidO, Thank you so much for your lovely rating and beautiful comments! We are thrilled to know that you will be coming back soon. Stay safe and healthy, Dominique
Great from start to finish. Food and service exceeded all expectations.
Thank you so much for the lovely comments RayR! At ANZU, we are committed to provide the highest level service and I am glad we lived up to our expectations. We are looking forward to welcoming you soon! Best, Dominique
Fantastic food and a nice indoor place for dining! the cod is outstanding.
The service was absolutely outstanding and the food was delicious
Really loved the service and amazing food!
Always the best in fine dining; great food; quality and quantity were great; staff always so considerate and polite. A wonderful experience as usual.
Thank you for being open and allowing us to have a cocktail in the lounge before dinner. We really enjoyed everything. Staff was excellent
Went during COVID times but really appreciated the indoor dining option - it was safe and gave me a sense of normality. The food was great and because it was me and my partner's anniversary, they provided us with a complimentary dessert plate. The service was amazing also. Only downside was that the ambience was a little dark and because there were not many people in the restaurant dining with us, it was a very quiet atmosphere.
Beautiful spot, nice for romantic rendezvous or quiet catch up dinner with a friend. Also good before ACT Theater show.
I was very disappointed. Had cabaret tickets at Feinstein’s and had heard you could reserve your table in advance if you ate at the restaurant so we thought we’d give it a try. Made 6:45 pm reservations. We waited in the bar. A few minutes after 7 I inquired on status and hostess told me there were people ahead of us and she’d seat us as soon as she could. No one was proactive with letting us know what was going on and that they were sorry reservation time was off. She didn’t seems concerned about us being rushed to make an 8 pm show. She said we could order in the bar. We weren’t thrilled with the arrangement needed to eat before the show. Service there was very uneven with silver not preset, and being brought after food served. My shortrib was very good, but portion was tiny and it was an entree. My friends tempura was good, also pricey. Everything there was expensive so expected a lot more. I love the cabaret in the hotel, but will just come early next time. The restaurant is an overpriced so so option.
Our waiter took forever to bring anything. We didn’t get our drinks until our food came. She never checked on us and She wasn’t able to give us any recommendation on the menu, when I asked her about one specific dish, she didn’t know anything. The food wasn’t the best I ever had. The prices are too high for such mediocre experience. I won’t go back.
Nice restaurant in a fancy hotel. The staffs are extremely friendly! I'd give them more than 5 stars for the service! Food is delicious too. We had dinner here in order to get good reserved seats for the show at Feinstein's downstairs for the night, also received 15% discount at Anzu which is the new perk. Pretty cool. Very pleasant experience.
Very impressed with the quality of Sushi at this restaurants
The reviews and score don’t do it justice
Stopped by for lunch on our way to the Golden Gate Theater. Very close for a short walk. Great!
Went for a business lunch and had surprisingly few fellow diners. I had the Ahi Poke Bowl. The ingredients were all separated completely, none touching, which is a bit unusual. All the ingredients, especially the tuna and seaweed salad, were delicious.
The service was attentive and prompt but never showy or invasive, an excellent balance. I would definitely go again.
The service, food and cocktails were excellent. It was a bit pricey, but perfect for a before-show (at Fienstein's) meal. I'd definitely dine there again.
this restaurant is just so much fun - from The Rock - a literal rock that is heated to 500 degrees so you can heat up raw Wagu Beef on it (and then dip in 3 yummy sauces) to The Fog desert (a ball of chocolate and raspberry that sits on a plate surrounded by a moat of dry ice that, when water is added, makes a nice fog!) it's all excellent and such a fun presentation. The sushi is super fresh and the duck was perfectly prepared, skin just crispy enough, while the meat remained moist - and such an interesting combination of flavors.
The service was just right and the place has ambience to burn - sure, it's a bit pricey, but hey, it's SF after all...
ANZU is in the Hotel Nikko, beautiful restaurant. Fantastic wait staff. Good selection of sake. Started with THE ROCK 22 (thinly sliced wagyu beef coulotte cooked tableside on a sizzling Japanese river stone served with a trio of sauces - WOW absolutely out of this world and first time to have wagyu cooked on the stone. Eat the ANZU CIOPPINO which was delight in a bowl! Fresh ingredients, wonderfully prepared and plated. Make this restaurant a must-do!!
We were surprised with complimentary bubbly moscato like I asked for. Server JAYMEE was AMAZING!! She checked on us made sure our dinner was nothing less than perfect. At the end of our dinner we were given a complimentary dessert that said Happy Anniversary. Highly recommend this place!
We went here on Valentines Day with a prix fix menu. I normally have zero issues with not having options. The only good part of the meal was the oyster to start. The remainder of the food was bland and not appealing in any way. Service was horrific, the server only checked back one time. Service was so bad we had to go to the bar and order our own drink refills. A pretty simple dinner took over two hours to complete. I will not return to this restaurant.
The menu was limited and it was quite overpriced for the offerings. That being said, it was a lovely ambiance and the food was excellent. The fact that we got a same-day reservation on a Friday night that was also Valentine's day... I think that says something about the restaurant. Generally overpriced.
Very good ambience
Service was terrific
