About Antica Osteria
Find a little taste of Italy right here in Houston
Partners Ray Memari and Velio DePlano have done it, again. When you step inside their beautiful new Italian restaurant Antica Osteria you will immediately feel all of the worries of living in a big city melt away. The only hustle and bustle you may notice is that of the staff keeping up a quick pace to meet your every need, usually before you even realize you have a need at all.
The decor will sweep you away to a romantic dreamy Tuscan paradise with it's warm aged walls and woodwork. Even sitting next to the street on the beautiful covered patio that runs along the front of the building and links the restaurant and lounge area doesn't let the chaos of Houston interrupt an enchanting candlelight dining experience.

Antica Osteria Ratings and Reviews
We have an infant and have dined with her at Antica Osteria several times because they are always very accommodating and friendly. We went for dinner to celebrate my father's birthday. The food is great - so many options - but my favorite is the carbonara. They brought out a piece of birthday cheesecake with a candle as well.
really well prepared dishes for new years eve with out the crazy markup. the ambiance felt a little dated and the service could be more attentive but if i compare to new yerar's dining in general, they did very well this night. the lobster fra diablo was excellent - very good quality and the tomato sauce was highly addictive. my husband's filet was prepared excellent and he loved it.
We always enjoy the food and service here. There is a loud noise level once the rooms are full which is why we prefer coming when the weather is mild and we can sit outside. Regardless, we had a fun evening with friends here on a cold, rainy night seated inside with great food (enough for leftovers!) and nice wine at reasonable prices in a quaint setting! The valets then walked us to our car with umbrellas. Great service inside and out!
My wife and I went to Osteria Antica for our aniversary, this was our first time dining with them, mostly driven by the reviews we found online. Pros: The atmosphere was very cozy and welcoming and the food was great
Cons: Our server was not very attentive and sometimes even not polite.
My wife asked for a Pasta Carbonara with Shrimp and they charged us $12 for FOUR of them, which seems OUTRAGEOUS.
I tried to switch the sides on my plate and they were not willing to do so .
Overall, I give a 8/10 to the food and a 3/10 to everything else. This will not be our first option the next time around for sure, although the food was great our overall experience was far from good
We arrived for a 7:15 reservation for 2 and were promptly seated and offered drinks and dinner menus. We were also provided with a plate of bruschetta. 30 minutes later we had to ask the busboy to get our waiter so we could order, although the waiter was clearly being attentive to other, larger parties (refilling wine glasses, etc). When he came over, he did not offer any specials, although there was clearly a large chalk board being shown elsewhere. Being now hungry, we also ordered an appetizer (tomato and mozzarella). The tomato was a cardboard tasting plum tomato sliced horizontally with a thick piece of obviously store bought mozzarella inside. The was no basi, oil, or balsamic vinegar. He did bring us another plate of bruschetta to make up for our wait (which obviously is free anyway). I had the rainbow trout, which was very well prepared. My wife had the veal piccata, which did not come with capers. The piece of lemon was on the side so she could add it herself. The veal was pounded so thin that when they breaded and fried it, it was inedible and had to be sent back.
At no point were we offered a free drink, desert or anything else you would expect from any restaurant that offered less than exceptional service. My wife asked the waiter if he was the owner; he said no. At that point I would have expected either the owner or manager to have come over to speak to us about our experience.
I would not recommend this restaurant for any meals.
The food and ambiance were great! Unfortunately, the service was terrible. We were very excited to go out and celebrate our engagement together. However, from the start, our waiter seemed annoyed to have us there! He rushed us through the wine list, knocked over our ice bucket with our champagne and didn't say sorry, barely came by the entire night... and lastly, gave my fiance turned red win wine, but we couldn't ever send it back because he ignored us the rest of dinner! So, while the food was incredible, the service is awful and makes you feel crappy after getting engaged : /
I have been going to this restaurant since it was originally located in Rice Village. The food is wonderful, the service is great and Ray - one of the owners - is always very attentative to what is happening in the dining area. It is a wonderful dining experience. The fare is Italian and there are no culinary "surprises" on the menu. If you can't enjoy a dish unless it has at least three unpronounceable ingredients, then please stay away. "Foodies" will enjoy this restaurants but "foodie snobs" will not!
I was very disappointed with the noise level of this restaurant. It is not the only restaurant in town where older people with hearing problems can't tolerate the noise level and two of my guests were not happy. otherwise the food was good and so was the service
Hadn't been here in about a year and decided to return with my wife and children. Food was good - not great. Had the Lamb Shank special and it was a bit bland lacking the depth of flavor that I'd expect from AO. Other dishes were good - but again, not great. One treat was that they have some really good half-bottles of Italian wine - the Gaja I had was the star of the evening. Both the service and ambiance were very good - as was the value. I'd return - but not rushing to go back.
We ordered the osso bucco for the first time at this restaurant and it was not very good.
We were very disappointed in the course and were glad we split it. We enjoyed our salads.
Usually I order fish and it's excellent or veal. I will be back because I love the restaurant.
We were in on a Tuesday night. Restaurant was full and very lively. In a good way. The food was excellent, but not overly complicated. The only downside that we experienced was that we felt a little bit rushed by our server. He seemed to be in a hurry- either to get home or to clear the table. Not sure which. Overall an excellent meal, a good value, and someplace that I would visit it again
