Partners Ray Memari and Velio DePlano have done it, again. When you step inside their beautiful new Italian restaurant Antica Osteria you will immediately feel all of the worries of living in a big city melt away. The only hustle and bustle you may notice is that of the staff keeping up a quick pace to meet your every need, usually before you even realize you have a need at all.
The decor will sweep you away to a romantic dreamy Tuscan paradise with it's warm aged walls and woodwork. Even sitting next to the street on the beautiful covered patio that runs along the front of the building and links the restaurant and lounge area doesn't let the chaos of Houston interrupt an enchanting candlelight dining experience.
Always our favorite place for special occasions! Valentine’s Day meal was the best
Waiter was very pleasant and accommodating, even went behind the bar to research what kinds of (bourbon) whisky they had. First thing he grabbed, however, was a scotch, but soon corrected his mistake with Makers Mark. Had the veal parmagiana with a tomato sauce under the parmagian, but should have had the veal picatta. Nice half bottle of pinot noir. The chocolate cake was positively sinful. We walk to this restaurant and will continue to do so for as long as we are in this neighborhood.
Unfortunately, it felt like our waiter forgot about us. Our reservations were for 7:30 pm, but we weren’t seated until 8:30 pm. The food was good but not great nor was it creative.
The hostess stand and check in is always chaotic and seemingly unorganized but once you get past that, the place is great. Once you are seated, service and food are excellent.
Good value , food was consistently good
For the third time we have been hustled to the bar area to wait for 45 minutes past reservation time. Finally seated and was told out of menus and many of specials were already unavailable. Took another 45 min to get starters as we were told the kitchen is very backed up. At the end of meal was given my carry out without a bag as you guessed it , they were out of bags. Waiter was trying very hard but was just put in bad situation. Seems like they way over book as people were all lined up waiting in bar. At least offer a free glass of wine or something !
Loved the place. Casual and fun and reminiscent of Italy.
Food was Okay. It was extremely cold in the restaurant.
The vibe, the wine and the food! The restaurant has the feel of an old- fashioned family restaurant with the efficiency of a modern one. The waiters still recite the specials and can advise on the dessert.
What stands above is taste and quality of the food! Wow!! Best Italian restaurant in that part of Houston!
This is one of our favorite restaurants in Houston. It's definitely a neighborhood gem that we take advantage of several times a month. We celebrate birthdays, anniversaries and friendship here. It's ALWAYS good. We took a group of friends in November for my husbands birthday and only one person had ever been there. Even with a large group, they handled everything to perfection and made all the guests want to return. The house made Panna Cotta is not to be missed. We love the ambiance of the old house and the bar area is just so cozy that even if you are alone, you'll feel comfortable and will probably make a friend or two. There's nothing negative to say about Antica Osteria except make a reservation or you'll generally have a wait although the staff will do its best to seat you ASAP.
Amazing service! The Italian spoken by all the staff makes it so authentic! Killer place!
Great food and great service. One of our favorite places
Last. IGRT was our first visit and we will be back. Everything was perfect!!!!
The service was excellent and the food was very good. I recommend the pasta puttanesca.
We are regulars. Always a great dining experience
Our experience there was perfect! My fiancé proposed in the restaurant and the staff certainly helped to make the experience memorable and irreplaceable! My fiancé and I will definitely be returning! 💕
Poor service. Average food. Too loud
Server though nice seemed completely disinterested. Will not be going back.
The Antica team is always excellent.
The veal chop was spectacular and the Lobster fra Diablo was perfect. We went on New Year’s Eve and had a perfect evening!
Our second time to visit on New Year’s Eve. Just as good as the first. First time we both had the filet AMAZING flavor, tender and lovely sauce. Not too much or too heavy.
Second time we wanted to try a pasta dish. Boyfriend had the spaghetti with bolognese. Was good...
I had the fettuccine with grilled chicken. He tried mine and wished he had ordered it. This is the BEST fettuccine in Houston. Pasta homemade was light, sauce rich and creamy and seasoned very well. The grilled chicken made the dish.
Also try the Mediterranean Salad. Delish!
Love this place. We drive 40 minutes to enjoy some great food, the best wait staff and romantic atmosphere.
They are pros because they have been at this for many years.
Where to begin?? Old world style of service! Touching, comforting, and specialized. We were never rushed. Guided through our menu with care. Given opportunities. I was torn between the lamb chops and the rib eye. I let the chef choose. Not a disappointment! It’s hard to make a small rib eye medium rare. It was perfect! My wife had the snapper. It was tender, tasty and flaky. We miss places like this that service matters. We’ll be back!!
Its an Italian restaurant at its core. The noise, the servers, the food just makes you feel like you are in Italy.
Always a favorite. Octopus salad is a regular special, DELICIOUS. Depending on the wine, decent price. I have never been disappointed with a meal. Gnocchi is excellent. I had the ribeye special tonight, I like it rare, it was cooked to perfection. Crispy outside and very tender. The best stake I have had in a very long time. Just love this place.
On the Reservation, I noted it was our 49th Wedding Anniversary.
It was never recognized, in fact our waiter disappeared for a bit.
We ordered a desert and coffee- the desert came quickly, but the coffee was a different story. I asked 2 different people for the coffee. It came as we were almost finished with the desert.
Always wonderful for our special occasions
Good food. Great service! One of my favorite restaurants!
Outstanding food and service. Great place to dress up and celebrate my wife's birthday!
I like this place lace
As always we had a delightful dinner... great food and good service.
Best Italian in Houston.
Wonderful experience. Staff very friendly and kind. Service was great. We celebrated my daughter's bday and they served her proseco abd a candke on her dessert. Would definitely go again. It was cosy and food was excellent.
Excellent traditional Italian cuisine in an elegant, quiet setting with attentive service.
Our waiter Kamal was excellent!
The service here is old school fabulous. Our waiter was entertaining, efficient and knowledgable. He made the meal for us.
Likely one on my favorite restaurants around. Villeo, John Beck and Ray make every dinner a wonderful dining experience. Highly recommend. The Osso Bucco is my favorite in the city!
Great old school appeal. A warm, cozy environment with solid Italian food and good service. Could stand up to a typical New York Italian restaurant. Wine prices are reasonable compared to most.
We were there to celebrate a birthday. Michael was our waiter and did an excellent job. His recommendations were spot on. The food was delicious.
We have been going here for years and love the ambiance, the service, the menu and the way we are treated like family by Ray & his staff.
We had a delightful time at Osteria: truly wonderful food, friendly, attentive service and comfortable, unpretentious ambiance!
Alas, having been at this restaurant many times before, we hit a perfect storm. Restaurant was full and very noisy. We had a waiter with a real bad attitude. The meals came late, cold and slow. The car parkers were very nice and efficient.
