Anthony's at the Old Mill District - Bend
We loved our meal.
The music from the concert across the river was totally obnoxious! We had to move inside. But every time the door opened the reverberations continued.
Seafood is good but portions are small. Crime brûlée was burnt on top.
The wait staff was excellent. Our server, McKenna, was a pure delight.
The food was mediocre. Probably the worst lobster tail I have ever eaten. Sure, it was not on the menu at the time and they had to defrost it (just like everyone else does), but this IS a seafood restaurant. No excuse for a small, tough, and tasteless tail. The steak was so-so too. Great location and view. I recommend that you stop here for a drink, then go to a good restaurant like Kayos
We came with friends for dinner this past Friday the 5th to Anthony's where they'd enjoyed the "Sunset 4 Course Dinner" several times in the past, and wanted us to try it. Unfortunately upon our arrival, we were told that because of a concert at the nearby Les Schwab stage, the "Sunset Dinner" option was not available that night. We were disappointed, but ordered other items from the menu. We had looked at their web site closely before dinner and there was not one word stating that the "Sunset Dinner" was not available on concert evenings, and I think it should be clearly stated so that people wanting that option could come another evening if desired. We felt a little deceived to not know this ahead of time. The Copper River salmon was quite good; the menu stated that it came with almond basmati rice pilaf and my husband and I were surprised to have plates delivered to us with mashed potatoes which I love, but don't order out due to the cream/milk added that I am allergic to. A young server came by and I told him that the meal was supposed to come with a special rice mix; the next thing I knew, he delivered a big bowl of plain white rice to me! Shortly after, our server came, said she'd noticed the mashed potatoes, and brought me the almond rice pilaf. I noticed, however, from then on, she did not return to the table to check on us nor did she ever refill my water glass. Warm day...water wanted. I also had to ask 3 times for a set of silverware for our 4th person. So while we enjoyed our dinners, there was a clear lack of service. I think they were working short, because we saw empty tables outside where we were eating, but a large number of people inside waiting to be seated. I would have thought more staff would have been brought on to work a Friday evening especially on a holiday weekend! I gotta say that their bread was outstanding and that we would try Anthony's again if we are in Bend in the future.
Normally Anthonys has great fish and service. This time that was not the case. They were out of all salmon and halibut, that left trout and rock fish. So no one got their first choice for dinner. Felt like tim allen in Santa Clause at Dennys , everything we picked “were out”. Then when my wife steak dinner came the server put it down in front of her, then said oh this is not your steak and took it away. It was what she ordered so not sure why they served it up and then took it away. Seating on the patio was nice but if we had been told up front about all the food they didnt have available we would have gone elsewhere and tried another night. Instead we wasted one of vacation dinners on food we made do with
My review is really mixed and think it is important to not that while we were disappointed with our meals, we were attended to by the manager who worked hard to try to rectify our issues. The salads were overdressed so if I were ever to go back I would ask for the dressing on the side. The Ciopino that two of us ordered came without the advertised fish that was described as part of the dish. The bus boy that brought the food out practically threw the bowls that one actually spilled. When the manager came over to see if we were satisfied we pointed out the fact that the Ciopino did not have fish, she reordered our food. The other entree was billed as a “favorite”, a fried oyster dish where the oysters were very greasy. Again, the manager reordered a replacement. We were given complimentary deserts to make up for the unacceptable food. I doubt that we would ever go back and would not recommend this restaurant.
Anthony's in Bend has a great location with beautiful views of the Deschutes River and evening sunsets. We dine here at least twice a month and always appreciate the delicious, fresh food, the excellent service and casual ambiance.
Been here twice and the first time was legit. Very different from this week. They sat us at a table that was kinda clean. Food chunks near the salt and pepper shakers. Good all over the floor under the table and two of the chairs had food chunks that I had to brush off. Then we sat there for about 10 mins before a waiter came and told us our waitress would be there shortly. At this point we almost just moved to the bar to eat. Took forever to get just get our drinks. Food was ok but overall it was a pretty crappy experience. I’d rather go to Red Robin than to Anthony’s again.
The fish was over cooked and the waiter was overwhelmed. It was a pretty expensive dinner for such poor quality.
Food is fair, very nice setting. Both meals and appetizer were OK, but nothing stood out.
I had an amazing first date everything was just perfect. It was busy but it didn't take away from having an amazing time and still felt like an intimate setting. Waitress was attentive and the food is always fantastic, can't wait to go back.
Worst dining experience we can recall. Sat for 15 minutes before we finally realized we’d have to flag a server down. She wasn’t thrilled with us, said we weren’t her table but she guessed we could be. It never did get any better. Long wait for drinks and over-cooked, overpriced appetizers. We won’t be back, too many other options for great service and delicious food.
Excellent food especially the seafood and selections. Our server was also excellent especially considering she also was serving a table of 17 next to us. Definitely worth it.
Food was very good. Portions were somewhat small for the price. Atmosphere was great and the restaurant design is beautiful. Staff was super friendly and professional. We received great service overall, although it took forever to get our dessert, an ice cream sundae and chocolate mousse. 🤔
Every year for our June birthdays (2-4 birthdays in our group -- this year just 2 birthdays & 3 non-birthdays in our party) we come to Anthony's. It's always a good experience with friendly staff & good food. Happy to say this year was another enjoyable experience for all of us -- birthday folks or not. Thanks for a nice dinner out at Anthony's again!
We had an amazing meal. The crab chowder was very good, as was the Dungeness crab salad and then for an entree we had the copper river salmon and grilled halibut, delicious!!
We were very pleased with our dinning experience, the food was very good.
May only criticism is the waiter needs training on opening a bottle of wine.
Robert Y was the waiter, he opened the bottle before he brought it to the
table and took the cork with him. He didn't pour some to be sampled to be
sure it is ok then poured about one ounce into each glass. A tutorial is in
order for him.
We have eaten at various Anthony's many times and went to dinner just to have their great Crab Cakes. They were not serving the Crab Cakes this night.
My wife ordered the Calamari which we have had at other Anthony's and it was very good. This night the it was like rubber and instead of crisp batter it was soggy with grease.
My Salmon Duet was ok. The King Salmon was great the other was none too fresh. Broccoli was cooked perfectly and was good. French Fries also good. A lot of money of a small piece of fish and french fries.
My husband wanted fresh oysters for his birthday dinner. He was not disappointed at Anthony's. We enjoyed the early four course dinner and drinks. Can't wait to come back.
Very good food and drinks. Cant beat the view if your seated near the water. Pretty much the only place in Bend to get seafood.
Food was excellent, although it took a while for the bread to get to us. Also it took a while for our desert for our dessert (strawberry shortcake) to reach us -- slowdown in the baking department we wondered.
Nevertheless, it's our favorite Bend restaurant.
I have had several great experiences at Anthony’s, but not this time. Service was slow, seemed understaffed, food average, not on par with previous times. Overall was an okay experience, generally good but not great this time.
I'm a repeat customer because this restaurant is usually quite nice. This time the manager saved the day. A record crowd due to the NBA playoffs final game, combined with two cooks not showing up for work, caused a huge delay in being served and getting our food. To make up for the abnormally long wait, first they offered free soup, which we declined rather than eat too much before the entrees. Afterwards the manager comped us for our appetizers plus gave us all free dessert to take home. So I have to say they more than made up for what could have been a very unpleasant experience because it took over an hour to get our food. The good news is that not only was all of the staff very gracious but we also got to watch the entire final playoff game!
The food was fine, nothing to write home about, but our server and dealings with some of the staff was not so good.
As requested, we were seated outside. Unfortunately the table we were given had no umbrella; being in the direct sun we moved our table 12" to utilize the shade of another table; despite the patio being wide open this was not appreciated by the hostess.
Per my wife, the "chop chop" salad was good and the cioppino itself was fairly flavorful. It was disappointing that the menu states the stew has "Alaskan Salmon" in it....2 small bites...hardly worth promoting. It did have ample white fish though.
Next, our waitress (Mariah). She was just apparently mentally MIA that day. Delayed drinks, never asked if we wanted a refill, asked if we wanted dessert mid-dinner and when we said "no" she immediately brought the check while we were still eating, etc.
I ordered the cioppino but was not brought the customary "shell bowl," seafood fork, nor even a spoon. After several minutes we flagged a different waitress down (ours had been nowhere in sight and someone from the kitchen brought our food) and inquired as to the missing items...only a spoon arrived a few minutes later. I ended up laying clam/mussel shells on my bread plate which overflowed on the table...more dirty looks.
The night we were there there was apparently a concert going on across the river. Everyone else on the patio seemed to be ordering courses as a way of staying for the duration. We, on the other hand, felt ignored, then rushed to get out by our server. What made it worse is the server helping several tables around us kept bring her tables more drinks, bread, etc and was VERY attentive. Ours....not so much.
We had a reservation through Open Table to celebrate my wife's birthday. The table was ready and we were seated quickly. We waited a bit longish to get water and to order a bottle of wine. Our waitress was pleasant but clearly stretched even though the restaurant was only about 2/3rds full. Calamari for appetizer was a little overcooked but pretty good. We were surprised that in a seafood restaurant there was virtually no shellfish other than local crab on the menu. No shrimp (unless with steak), scallops, or lobster on the menu. We do understand the seasonal nature of this business. We ordered dinner and it was just about 45 minutes to get the food -- wine was gone, appetizer long gone. I ordered Copper River salmon cakes which were quite good, The sides - not so much. The rice pilaf too dry, and the broccoli a bit overcooked. My wife ordered steak and shrimp and the shrimp was charred beyond being edible. The garlic was literally almost turned to ash. The steak was done to order and was okay. The management did not charge us for her dinner and we appreciated the gesture.
We've always been fans of this restaurant and have gone for several special occasions, however our last three visits have been similar to this visit so we're all done with Anthony's. Sorry for the bad review guys, but you really blew it, now three times in a row.
Found food to be bland, ambience was nice. We expected top notch seafood and was disappointed.
Everything was fine but my hearing loss prevents me from understanding table conversation in noisy environments. I will seek a solution that works with my hearing aids in the future.
Not enough choices on the menu in general and, in particular, not enough options for people with small appetites.
Great deal from 4pm - 6pm. Four course dinner. Appetizer, soup or salad, entree, dessert. All under $30 (if I remember all of them). A ton of food. Very good. Great service. Nice location.
We enjoyed the service but the food was only ok. We felt the restaurant was not very clean; the floor and chairs were littered with pieces of food and napkins. Not very pleasant to walk into.
We came back for the third time and as always it was great! The noise level is lower than most other restaurants which is a big plus for us. The seafood is outstanding including the chopped seafood salad which is one of my favorites. The service was wonderful and if you can get a window table it's the best place in Bend.
Date night for Copper River Salmon, which was great. Everything else was good, no specific complaints, more like expected or average.
Delicious fresh fish well prepared and snazzy cocktails.
Food took forever. It was okay. The view is great. Would not recommend the Sunset deal. Portions are ridiculously small.
The staff was wonderful but the food was just ok. Two people in our party ordered steak and both were over cooked and charred....almost burnt. There as a mix up with the salads also but they quickly fixed that. Overall it was ok for our Mother’s Day celebration but for the money we didn’t get close to what we paid for.
Great to be next to river and watch people going by, the floaters on the river. Food always great, with friendly staff, wonderful afternoon.
We went for Mother’s Day and it was fabulous. The service was excellent and the food delicious. It was a beautiful day out and we were seated at the window so we could enjoy the river and Mountain View. It was a perfect day!
Excellent Mother’s Day meal! Busy, so meal took awhile to arrive at our table. View was pretty and bright near the windows which made for an even more lovely day at the restaurant with view of the river!
