Anteprima Ratings and Reviews
This is a great place, the food and service is solid. Make a reservation for an early time slot. After 7pm and you are done for. The noise level when the place if full is impossible to tolerate. The tables are very close together. Both my wife and I ate our meals and dessert very quickly in order to leave as fast as possible to get away from the noise. We didn't have much conversation on our date night as we couldn't hear one another from across the table.
The food was delicious. The problem is that not much of it is given per order. We both ordered the large portion of two pasta dishes in addition to an appetizer, a cider and a glass of wine. Even after eating all the bread sticks, we walked out still hungry.
Tables are jammed together in the dining room. Our dining neighbors were to close for comfort.
In terms of value, this restaurant was a miss. I'd suggest eating at Calo instead.
The food and service are good here, but the restaurant is unpleasantly crowded and noisy at peak times, and there are more tables jammed in than the limited space can accommodate. On our last visit we were uncomfortably seated at a table right by the door, with a cold breeze blowing over us each time it opened. Our waiter had to practically climb over our table to get to the one behind us. Still, the food is reliably good, and dining here can be pleasant at off-peak times.
Small upscale neighborhood gem with rustic Italian menu. Tables are close together and the room filled up after 7pm. Amazing array of starters, unique pastas and decent desserts. Our favorites were bread basket, beet salad, duck entree , spaghetti cacio e Pepe and hazelnut torte. Service was attentive and helpful.
Beautiful ambiance, and lovely cozy atmosphere. We ordered the rabbit liver mousse and the carmelized fennel, which comes with saffron aioli, for appetizers and they were delicious!! They have an expansive Italian wine list and great cocktails, and the server was professional and friendly and recommended wine options. I had the orecchiette with lamb sausage, which was other-worldly and exceptional! Compliment the romantic evening with a tiramisu and you'll be all set! definitely recommend!
Cute little restaurant but very loud and busy. Hostess was very nice, wish we had her as our waiter. Our waiter was just a jerk. The guy didn’t smile once and I felt like he was talking down to us. I saw so many other waiters talking and laughing with their tables. Our time there was just sour.
The food was ok nothing special.
Cute, intimate space and warm, family feel to the service winds the 4-star rating, the food was on the average side for our two orders, though our friends really seemed to enjoy their pasta, so maybe that's where they shine. North siders, it's worth a visit.
I love the many choices offered here—from a reasonably priced prix fixe menu to a long & delicious selection of small plates & appetizers. I also love the small size option on pastas. The variety and quality of the food makes Anteprima a standout. The atmosphere is friendly and welcoming, the atmosphere relaxing with a neighborhood vibe. Highly recommend.
Every dining experience at Anteprima is a standout! Delicious seasonal trattoria-style offerings, complemented by top-notch wines, creative cocktails to tantalize the palette and warm the soul! I hosted two friends for an early New Years’ day dinner, and the harsh temps were tolerated, as we left with utter satisfaction. The black walnut chestnut cake was new to the menu, and it’s deliciousness reminded me of something my family in Pordenone would have enjoyed on that day! Marty Fosse and his staff cannot be surpassed!
Food was all excellent. I had the pork chop, and we started with gnocchi - both were great. Would definitely go back if we were in the area. Only complaint was that we went on a cold December night and even though we were not really near the door (place is small), every time it opened, it got freezing and windy in the restaurant for a solid 10-15 seconds. Still - food was great and our overall experience was awesome.
I've been there twice, and both times I've been there, it was a little noisy and it's usually pretty tight. I see why, the food is so good! Noise level doesn't bother me typically, especially if I know I benefit from good eating and outstanding customer service. Waiter was fabulous, all in all, 5-star experience. I'll try a weeknight next time!
Never been here before but needed a restaurant in the Andersonville neighborhood. What a find! I had duck breast and I honestly think it was the best I've ever had. Two others had pasta, and they're both pasta aficionados. Both said their dishes were outstanding. The waiter was very attentive without being at all pushy. The place has the perfect neighborhood feel to it with a decent amount of buzz. Highly recommended. We'll certainly be back.
Nice neighborhood gem serving really good food, fine atmosphere, great evening all around. Menu was extensive, took advantage of the fixed price menu which was a value (starter, 1/2 pasta, entree) or (1/2 pasta, entree, dessert) $32. Would definitely go back again.
We had the oddest experience tonight at Anteprima and since I can’t stop thinking about it I must share.
Andersonville generally a good meeting place for suburbanites and city folk; but it’s not hugely convenient for any of us since parking is nutty and it can still take an hour to get there with traffic (from Highland Park)
But I digress- we met our Old Town friends for dinner- ordered 4 appetizers- cabbage special ( undercooked) and a celery salad special (unremarkable taste and looked like little cut up pieces of chicken, absolutely no presentation) Calamari good
Ordered 4 entrees for the 4 of us- three pasta dishes okay, my trout interesting
No ones dinner knocked their socks off
One person also had salad
We shared very yummy chocolate hazelnut pie/cake
And the 4 of us consumed 7 alcoholic drinks
Reservation was 7:00- seated quickly
At 8:55 as we completed paying the bill, the host came to the table and asked us to vacate the table- perhaps moving to the bar to continue our evening
He did not offer us a drink or dessert
He did not apologize
He did not appear in the least bit concerned that this might seem rude or unwelcome
He said he had MANY people waiting for tables
I was really taken aback
We were so shocked we stood up and left immediately
I am not exaggerating- there were two women standing at the host counter, and two men were coming in the door (It looked to me as if they were one group)
No one else appeared to be waiting for a table
So, to re-cap- food very disappointing all night
We would spend more time driving to and from restaurant and parking than we were to spend at dinner and a per couple bill for $126.00
And cross my heart, we were as polite and well behaved as any group of 60 years olds would be
Bye bye Anteprima- no longer on our list
I love coming back to this place even in the winter (though the outdoor patio in summer is wonderful!). The 3-course menu doesn't disappoint and with the weekly special choices there is always something new to try. Jasmine, our server this week, was a true delight and Marty always has a welcoming smile. Can't wait to head back. Thanks for being a neighborhood treat!!
We had a larger party, and various food restrictions. they did a great job steering us to the right dishes. There are two breads and rosemary (?) bread sticks to start off with - delicious! The pastas (gnocchi with boar ragu and stricchetti with chianti braised pork) were just the right amount, and seemed to be homemade. My son had the quail (herbed farro, apples, cabbage, parsnip puree, pickled onion) and he was enjoying it with eyes closed ;). I had the pork shoulder with parmigiano mashed and spinach - melt in your mouth. My sister had the salmon special, and it looked beautiful. Ended with the apple raisin bread pudding (my fave), the chocolate hazelnut tart, the tiramisu, and a wonderful lemon panna cotta. Great meal, great service.
