I wanted somewhere nice to celebrate my birthday in Kyoto and I was not disappointed. I couldn't have asked for a better evening and was treated amazingly. The food of course was fantastic and the accompanying Sake was a perfect compliment. I'll return when I'm next in the area!

An intimate space run entirely by the chef himself, Another C felt like being at a very fine dinner party. The food and wine were excellent and it was a joy to chat to the chef and other patrons while watching everything come together.

Some of the dishes were good but not excellent (the first five courses in particular), and two courses were dry and lacked flavor. Ingredients were not very fresh and were lower quality. Service was okay but the chef did not introduce every dish so we were not always sure what we were eating. At the end of the evening, the check was delivered un-itemized and just a random number on a note of paper. Later, I was charged a “no show” fee in addition to paying directly at the restaurant. I found this very dishonest and frankly frustrating. I would like to think this was a mistake but I am not sure actually.

Wonderful meal. Eight varied courses, featuring in-season ingredients, served at a nice gentle pace over three hours. Chef is fluent in English and fun to talk to as he prepared the meal in front of us. (There are just eight seats at a counter.) While not inexpensive, you could spend a lot more in Kyoto for a multi-course meal like this, and we thought it was excellent value.

We had such a fantastic meal here. It is small and intimate. You sit at a counter and watch the chef as he prepares your food. Although Japanese, he was raised in the US so he has a unique perspective on Japanese food. Plus, as we are American, it was a blast talking to him! The food is just exquisite and I would mark this as a must visit if you go to Kyoto.

Great food and overall great experience with a very talented chef. They also made our night special with giving us some cake that was nicely decorated for our engagement. Went there with a part of 7 and basically had the whole place to ourselves.

This was the most amazing experience we had dinning in Japan. It was intimate only 7 people and the chef Dan cooked everything in front of us to perfection. It was my wife's 70th birthday and our daughter joined us there for this once in a lifetime experience. Top Shelf all the way!!!

This was an incredible dining experience and the best meal we had in Japan! We would go back to Kyoto just to have dinner with Chef Dan again. We had 7 courses (including desert) and each one was tailored to our tastes. My husband contacted Dan prior to our dinner as we brought our 6 year old son with us, and Dan made sure it was an exceptional culinary experience for all of us. Each dish was exceptional, with the freshest ingredients and wonderful combinations of flavors. The eel and tuna were absolute perfection, as well as the steak, chicken and tomato noodle dish. The desert was hands down the best cheesecake I have ever eaten. The meal was Michelin star quality as well as the experience. We were on a 6 week around the world trip and this was our best meal!

Had a very nice meal at AnotherC in Kyoto. Chef Dan was busy cooking for 9 guests (3 parties) the evening we were there. He accommodated 2 guests with dietary restrictions with grace and everyone had a good time. The dishes of the Kaiseki meal were tasty, nicely presented, and creative.

We had a wonderful time at Another C. Only about 9 people in the restaurant. We sat around the counter and all got to know each other along with the chef, who spoke both English and Japanese. We watched the chef cook a great variety of dishes which were a sort of Japanese fusion; everything was delicious.

Great ambience in this classic counter-service, small Japanese restaurant. Omakase course was outstanding. Ask the Tenchou the meaning behind the restaurant name. It’s quite deep!

Great little restaurant in Kyoto. Seating for about 8-10 people but you get personalized service from the chef himself. Had about 7-8 courses over two hours or so. Each course was fantastic and left very satisfied. Would definitely return!

We had an awesome experience with Chef Dan at Another C- as others mentioned it is a wonderful, modern day version of the Kaiseki without feeling westernized. The food was amazing and innovative, the atmosphere warm and the conversation with Dan while he was working great - all suitable for the background story of why the restaurant is named Another C (you'll have to ask him when you dine there). In a city filled with some great places to eat, this is definitely worth the stop.

We had traditional kaiseki the night before. Very lovely experience... However, Chef Dan Tominaga turned Kaiseki into a Micheline star experience. All of the dishes reflected traditional Kaiseki while reminding the diner of some other memorable food. The sirloin salad appetizer reminds you of a Prime Rib tasting. The Fried tofu dish reminds one of a French onion soup... It's not cheesy slight of hand, it is elegant and masterful use of flavor and textures!!! An absolute must if visiting Kyoto!!!

Excellent meal! We loved every course. Wonderful dining experience, and we really enjoyed getting to chat with the chef while he was preparing the food. It was a great date night experience. We highly recommend, and we look forward to returning the next time we are in Kyoto.

Recommended by a friend. The first three courses were excellent then it all started to feel a bit lazy, which was a real shame. Quite pricey for the overall experience, and I’m sure it could be made better without much more effort from chef.

Although the food was creative, innovative and delicious, it felt as if we were not expected and there was little attention given to us as customers. It felt like we were eating in someone’s kitchen, not the intimate experience other reviews led us to believe we would be having. It felt like we were intruding on Chef Dan’s time. We were greeted not by name or with a warm hello, rather we were told he was running late due to a party which had just finished. The other couple plus newborn were the only other customers. We were not given a choice of dinner or chef’s dinner, nor were our questions about the food and preparation warmly received. Over the course of two plus hours, we tried to engage in conversation, with little success. This was the most expensive dinner we had in our two weeks in Japan, and not the highlight we had hoped.
