Angler is a sea-life focused restaurant with views of the expansive wood burning hearth as well of the San Francisco Bay from Chef Joshua Skenes and Saison Hospitality. Each day’s inspiration is drawn from the products themselves and is an articulation of their natural flavors, served at their peak taste. We work with a small group of fishermen, hunters, gatherers, ranchers, and farmers to find and follow microclimates that produce the highest quality products in local existence. All of the cooking revolves around open wood fire and a fireplace designed for Chef Skenes's unique methodology, techniques, and tools for extracting the best tastes in our products. The expansive cellar features a particular emphasis on the wines of Burgundy as well as benchmark producers from our backyard in Napa and Sonoma. We were so excited to give Angler a try, but sadly we came away disappointed. It seemed like Angler is trying to be both casual and a fine dining experience at the same time and not really succeeding at either. There was a tremendous amount of staff who tried really hard to provide top notch service. It got a little overwhelming at times though with multiple servers trying to clear plates we weren't done with. The food was unique, but it was also heavy and rich. For two of us, we were directed to order 2 dishes from each section. Fortunately we only ordered one main but it was still too much food for two fairly hungry eaters. The casual feel came from the way the food was served and the ambiance. Everything was family style and came in whole pieces that we had to cut up ourselves. Like giant pieces of lettuce and a whole head of cauliflower. This was really at odds with the richness of the foods, the attentiveness of the service and the high price of the meal. The ambience was also very casual with loud 80s music playing and a vibrant atmosphere. If I were to go back, it would be for an expense account meal with someone who didn't want something too formal.

This was our second time to Angler, and it was even better than the first. The food was excellent as well as the attentive service! Beautiful restaurant. We will definitely come back again and again.

Our server was AWFUL! We have dined at the restaurant many times and have never been treated so poorly. He was a man and seemed distracted.

Example: We had a half bottle of wine left and they pulled our wine glasses. We had to ask for new glasses and if someone could pour for us.

Example: There was half of the chicken left and we were asked if we wanted to take it. We said yes and we never received it to go. We asked and no one had an answer.

We were with out of town guest and were very embarrassed.

Fabulous restaurant. It was a bit noisy for an intimate conversation and the tables are large so we sat next to each other so we wouldn’t have to yell. But the tables are fairly large because the food can fill them. The atmosphere is great, elegant, just dark enough, designer. There was one strange glitch. Ordering before dinner cocktail drinks was very difficult. It seems no one was assigned to our table so I had to grab people. It was honestly chaotic. Once we ordered food the wine service was smooth as part of it. The wine was perfect. The food was delicious. I found the potato side though to be very salty, and we were surprised to hear it was cooked in butter. The scallops and sea bass were perfect. It’s a memorable evening and while expensive thoroughly enjoyable.

Definitely top 10 dining experiences ever and we have been to Michelin 3 star restaurants across the world. So mind blowing the techniques used to cook each course perfectly. The bass and quail were phenomenal. Service was attentively perfect.

We really loved this place. Cool, elegant, and unpretentious. The glasses, cutlery, salt shaker, everything was beautiful, fun, interesting, even before any food arrived. The wine list is pretty big, and you can go nuts if you want, but the sommelier found us something delicious and within our budget.

Dishes are pretty big, and we ordered too many, but they were all so interesting and tasty. Radiccio - off the charts fresh and delicious with the XO sauce. Potato was a work of art, but tasted of earth and savoriness. Not Grandma's spud. The Hen of the Woods dish was the highlight for me, so much talent and technique. Same with the Blowfish tails, deceivingly simple looking, but a fryers masterpiece. Scallops were just super high quality, with not much done to them. Not much needed.

We left, really satisfied, with a bill of about $200. So it was a great experience without the Saisson price.

The swordfish was the best fish I ever had. Very good cocktails as well. You can tell a place has a good bar if they pay attention to the ice. Angler gets great ice from LA.

Went to celebrate our anniversary. The entire staff must have wished us well at least once throughout our visit, and the food was spectacular. The Somm helped us pick the perfect bottle for the food (while staying within our price range) and everhthing was just divine. Pricey but worth every penny. Will definitely be going back for our next special occasion.

今回初めて訪れたサンフランシスコの最初の夕食がこちらで大正解!
ラディッキオとジャガイモの二品は失礼ながら期待を裏切るものでした。
見た目のインパクトと味のインパクトが素晴らしい。
ネットを見る限り『シーフード屋さん』のイメージでしたが、
なんのなんの『素晴らしい料理屋さん』です。
個人的には大お勧めしたいです。

We had a great experience at Angler. Had read reviews before hand so we knew that it would be expensive and were weary of the service. We ended up with great service and had some amazing dishes. I particularly enjoyed the big eye tuna tartare and amberjack in shiso. The atmosphere of the restaurant was very welcoming and impeccably designed. My son said it was the best restaurant he had ever been to.

Pricing was exorbitantly high. $1000 crab, $17 cocktails, $14 ice cream. Not a good choice for an ordinary meal with friends. Servers polite but fussy and humorless. Would have much more fun if wait staff were more friendly and open. Last point, the soundtrack was loud 80s music which didn't match the stuffiness of the servers.
