Angelicas Ratings and Reviews
I'm going to keep this short and to the point. I made a reservation for a birthday lunch. The reservation was for a party of nine. When we arrived about 4 minutes before the reservation time, the hostess informed me that they would get our table ready for us. She also informed me that she could not seat us until everyone had arrived at the restaurant. She asked us to wait at a table clearly used by staff to get ready for service and eat their meals. There were bins of silverware and plates with half finished meals. Pretty gross. After about 10 minutes the table was finally ready and we were seated. The food was ok and the service was decent, but the server had no idea it was a birthday celebration until someone in our party mentioned it. I left wondering what the point of making a reservation was. The table was clearly not prepared in advance. The note on the reservation about the birthday was clearly not noticed. Informing me that we could not be seated before everyone was present seemed a bit rude considering that we couldn't have been seated even if we were all there!
We made a reservation for brunch on Sunday, Nov 26, 2017, at 12:15 pm. We weren't late; we were right on time. A host placed us at the window table. Food was tasteless, but we left 20% tips for a waitress. We paid cash. Then at 2:49 pm we got an email with cancellation from the restaurant. That was the first time in my whole experience.
The food, once we got it, was pretty darn delicious. The Meyer Lemon Pancakes were excellent. We didn't get asked about what kind of toast, nor did it come with butter (we had to specifically ask to have butter for the toast, and then it never arrived). Service was pitiful. Reasonable time that we got water and the waiter took our order when we first sat down, but that was where it ended. Never came over to offer coffee refills. Even when we got up to ask for a refill, and the woman who brought it over said she would be sure to look out for us and make sure we had refills....never materialized. Also had to ask for the check, but when we gave the credit card to pay, that came back lickety-split!
The waiter did apologize, after I talked to the manager about the service.
How long are you willing to sit through an appalling lack of service...?
This is a big place with lots of areas. It was a cool night so we wanted to sit inside. The hostess brought us to a small room upstairs that had a large party and it was very noisy, so we asked if there was anything else. We were brought downstairs to where they have music starting at 8:30. Not a problem because we had theatre at 8:00. We ordered immediately because reviews we read were service was not good. We didn't get our main course until 7:30, so were rushed to eat dinner. The waitress said my fish was not cooked properly, so sent it back to the chef. I believe this was her excuse. When does a chef send out a bad meal, and how would the waitress know how it was cooked! We will not return. Seems like they cater to the bar business and large parties, not to small dinner guests.
Went for breakfast. The food was very good . The service was poor. We sat outside which is very nice. We were seated in the shade and asked for them to turn on heating lamp. Were told they only turn on the heating lamps in the evenings. It was freezing in the early morning - we were literally shaking. I asked again for the heating lamp they said no. That definitely cooled down my review!
I asked for a seat for our group to catch up in while celebrating several birthdays. They put us outside in the back patio which was perfect as the evening was in the high 60s. We had fantastic cocktails, a fabulous waitress Angela, and a beautiful setting to enjoy each others company. The special of the day was a taro gnocchi (yummy) that we had as an appetizer, and the Angel Hair pasta with shrimp added was good. The sole over sweet potatoes was tasty though one person out of three said hers was a little overcooked. We weren't rushed at all, which is so different from other restaurants as our goal was to sit and enjoy our time together. Angela brought two dishes of ice cream for our two birthday girls. Would definitely return with a group or for a romantic dinner, as well as to catch the nightly Jazz music available inside after 7pm.
Brunch at Angelicas has been a consistent hit.
On nice mornings, it's perfect to sit outside in one of their two courtyards. There is usually plenty of seating in the sun or shade depending on your preference.
Coffee is good and abundant.
Breakfast is served with complimentary fresh, warm scones
The huevos rancheros are among the best I've had... served with mole sauce and a grilled chili pepper. They're served on a fried tortilla, but IMHO it's better to ask for a soft tortilla as I find the fried version too hard and oily.
The stuffed french toast is a work of art...stuffed w/ bananas, cream cheese and grand marnier, & dipped in egg batter with a light hint of lemon zest & topped w/ homemade blueberries compote
We love these dishes so much we haven't been able to break away and try other things.
We're looking forward to trying dinner and catching live music here!
First time at Angelica's & we were there for a late breakfast as it is served until 2 p.m. Since it was a warm, sunny day, we sat outside in a beautiful garden setting. The stuffed French toast & the pancakes with blueberries were delicious, & the service was excellent. We'll definitely be back to try the lunch & dinner menus & to experience one of the many musical evenings that Angelica's provides.
Have been here 3 times for dinner since April. The food and service were consistently outstanding. Both indoor and outdoor dining ambiance are very nice. If you prefer more quiet, you can dine upstairs, but not when there's live entertainment as the sound carries. I've had the seafood linguine, rack of lamb, and salmon and have never been disappointed. Would highly recommend.
Five of us went for lunch this time and we all thought the food was very good. I had the ahi tuna salad which was very tasty and a good amount of ahi tuna. Others had fish tacos and the portobello mushroom sandwich. It was not busy so we could sit and have a conversation for quite a long time. Our waitress even brought us more complimentary scones after we had finished eating.
The garden seating is lovely but it was too hot for us to sit outside. I look forward to trying that the next time I go.
Angelica's if often one of our "go-to" restaurants in downtown Redwood City and we've dined their several times. We went for Father's Day and it was terrible. They had a limited menu (which we were not aware of beforehand) and the Steak Diane that I love was not on it. Fortunately, the Shepherd's Pie was available, which my husband loves. I ended up having the Petrale sole which was okay (I really had my heart set on the Steak Diane). My son had the salmon and it was good. It was a record hot day in RWC (over 100 degrees) and the restaurant was very hot and uncomfortable inside (it probably would have been cooler outside in a shaded area). Our waiter, Jonathan, was a mess and didn't seem to realize what was on the menu and what wasn't. He seemed completely overwhelmed and yet the restaurant wasn't that busy at the time. We would ask for more iced tea and water and then he would show back up at our table without the drinks and we would ask again - not rocket science. All in all, not a great dining experience. We'll likely go back again but will definitely look at other restaurants first. Rather disappointing for Father's Day.
Angelica's is now #1 on my short list of fabulous places for dinner. I can't wait until my family gets together for a brunch; it will be at Angelica's. Our dinner server was the best my date & I have ever had in 16 years of going out to dinner. True! The name on the receipt is Alyssa C. She should train all your new servers when you get them. Thank you!
We have celebrated birthdays here several times but our last visit was quite disappointing.
I had shepherds pie that included teeny chunks of cut up meat (supposedly roast beef) which
Looked just like the dog food I give my dog. The flavor wasnt bad but in all it was a big disappointment. Myfriends ordered the petrale sole and were alsodisappointed because it was floating in a sauce that they did not care for.
We had two appetizers, coconut crusted prawns and sweet potato fries, both of which were
There were several tables of lots of people and it was very noisy. We wont go back on Friday
This was our first time to Redwood City, so we turned to TripAdvisor for a recommendation for dinner. I'm glad we did. We arrived for an early dinner and were whisked back to a charming outdoor patio that made us feel that we were tucked away in quaint Parisian neighborhood or a small Italian village. Starters included oysters on the half shell and roasted beet salad. The oysters were fresh and sweet, and the salad was delicious with a delicate balance of tastes. I had the Petrale Sole Filet baked in parchment paper. I have never had sole prepared any other way but as Dover Sole, but I am glad I tried this Mediterranean variation--it was outstanding! My date had the Grilled Californian King Salmon. It was both beautiful and utterly delicious. It was served atop black rice, roasted butternut squash, spinach, cherry tomatoes, and thinly-sliced green apples on top. We paired it with a Russian River Valley Chardonnay. If we had more time, we would have stayed for the live music. We highly recommend Angelicas.
My son & I were staying at the hotel across the street from Angelica's and had planned to have dinner there for the live jazz. We had a fabulous time! The food was awesome, though note that they do not have a lot of vegan options (but who does?). I had the bruschetta sans cheese and it was pretty good (probably would've been better with the pesto & cheese ;) ). My son had the mushroom ravioli, and the oysters as an appetizer and he LOVED it! There's a great choice of good wines and specialty cocktails. The music - The Denny Berthiaume Trio with Special Guests Rachel Ross - was fabulous, and I cannot say enough good things about the service. Everyone was so nice. It happened to be a little chilly in area with the music, but there is a really cozy-looking patio out back. Definitely put it on your list if you're looking for a great place to have dinner in Redwood City!
