Armando was awesome! It was a great night to celebrate the second to last day of the year
We were treated like royalty! Every thing was delightful and our meals were all so special!
Our second visit. Great food, just a new server who did not know the menu well. The service was less than what we would expect for a restaurant in this price range.
We were excited to try this hot spot, but left quite disappointed. While the server and manager were pleasant and knowledgeable, the food was really lacking. One starter was very bland, another much too salty. My halibut was so overcooked it should have been sent back, and both the sauce and accompaniments were unappealing. We just wanted to cut our losses and left without ordering birthday desserts. If you must go, the sablefish is worth ordering, at least they didn't mess that up and it came with nice garnishes, if a tad sweet. Sigh, yet another overrated fine dining place that is anything but.
Not good choice of varieties. Grilled sea bass lack presentation, portion pasta little small, hamachi was smaller size than last time.wrong order ice cream, waitress lack experience and knowledge.disappointed birthday lunch with nothing but after bill to wrong person.
On a positive note the food was delicious, unfortunately it went down hill from there. The atmosphere was lacking, certainly not helped by the chilly temperature of the restaurant. The service was shocking for a restaurant of it's caliber. Unfortunately most the attention and there was a lot was focused on what a appeared to be a table of restaurant reviewers. Overall I was left disappointed but thankful the food was the saving grace.
Food was great. Sa
Ancora has a wonderful atmosphere and service, with beautiful views. The food was superbly prepared with a very nice presentation to it as well. The service was quite good, but our waiter did not know how to describe some of the menu items. The wines were overpriced. In our opinion, the restaurant could do a better job by providing some moderately priced wines for those of us not on a company expense account. The sushi appetizer was surprisingly good.
I’m usually at Ancora Ambleside - same great menu, same great food!
The food was simply brilliant. Our server was attentive; the atmosphere was relaxed yet elegant
Outstanding food and service!
First time at Ancora and loved it! Very bright even on an overcast rainy Vancouver evening. I can only imagine how lovely it would be in the summer.
Started with the tuna causa, sockeye sashimi, and shrimp & lobster risotto. Was surprised they all came at the same time but all 3 were delightful. Probably wouldn’t get the sashimi again only to make room for other Peruvian dishes.
For mains, I got the halibut & he got the scallops. Both were lovely, especially the accoutrements (my eggplant purée and chickpea “cubes” were amazing!!).
Split the “pumpkin” rice pudding for dessert along with the paired tawny port. Fantastic meal. Very much appreciated the sommelier’s guidance toward a Portuguese wine we’d never tried before (and loved). I’ll remember this meal for some time!
I have been to this restaurant a number of times and it never fails to be consistently wonderful. The food is great (the only restaurant that I will order risotto at) the decor really nice and this time we had lunch on the patio and just watched the boats go by! Interesting cocktail menu as well. A favourite for lunch and dinner.
We arrived early and were greeted by a charming staff member who found us a seat at the bar. The Batman showed no interest in getting us a drink but on request acquiesced to do so. Then to table: very pleasant area , lovely ambience. Unfortunately we were largely invisible and seemingly various servers. The sommelier could not be found. When wine was organised ( a charming grand cru Chablis) not poured till requested.
The food was ok but rather overworked and did not let the seafood shine. We are used to better quality seafood at much lower prices.
In all a disappointment and way overpriced.
The food was superb! Great taste, great flavors which all blended together unbelievably!
Ancora has a delicious menu, all which seem very fresh and gorgeously plated. The service was friendly and lovely, the setting is beautiful with a spectacular view and the food and drinks were fabulous. I'd definitely come again and would recommend it to friends as well.
Farewell lunch. Service was very, very slow. Don’t be in a hurry when you dine here. Food was very good.
We loved it. The food and service was excellent. Thank you 🙏🏻
We really enjoyed it
Very good restaurant and great service.
Best part of our dinner were the appetizers
Main courses were very good but could have been great except Halibut was a bit over cooked and dry. Not what you expect from a very good restaurant like this
Worth the trip for a waterfront experience
Gave us a really good table and professional service
Beautifully situated, intriguing and delicious offerings, good wine list. Attentive service at first but very slow once our mains were delivered (second glass of wine, desserts, our bills). Perhaps because of full house on a Wednesday night? In any event, I still highly recommend for the ambiance, for the warm welcome, and for exquisite food. Will definitely return.
What a nice discovery! Excellent cuisine, beautifully presented, and very attentive and friendly service. Also really enjoyed sitting on their patio. Had one of the best seared tuna meals that I have ever had!! Not a bargain, but well worth it!
Location was beautiful, service was wonderful, plating was unique and pretty, the food was good, but only okay. Nothing wowed us in terms of taste.
Very enjoyable evening. Unique combination of ingredients made the meal interesting.
Our server was very inattentive, we had to ask for water every time. One time we had to ask three times for her to refill our friend’s hot water. However, 4 people came to our table when cleaning up the dishes. In the mean time she kept revisiting the large table next to us. I expected better service at a restaurant like this. Food was overly savory, especially the miso-squash quinotto that came with the sablefish. The risotto was very good. I would not come back or recommend this restaurant.
Visiting from out of town. Reviews were great and it did not disappoint. The spicy tuna roll was fresh and delicious. Hamachi was a great item to split and to die for. My husband had the sablefish and I had the scallops. Both were prepared extremely well. Our server was knowledgeable and very accommodating! Would definitely recommend.
My wife and I requested a view table as it was our anniversary. Ancora provided a view table, and also recognized us by providing free desserts. The food was also outstanding, with several unique dishes.
Vancouver top ten!
Service was excellent, and pleasent.
Sablefish dish was perfect, which made my very good beef dish pale.
A wonderful evening.
We always walked by the restaurant or see it from Granville Island, but finally decided to try this fusion restaurant by the water. Given all the west coast/Japanese fusion restaurants in the city, this one is somewhat different being Peruvian. The restaurant has two floors and a patio. It was still too cold for the patio to be open, and the second floor seems a bit isolated and cramped. We were seated on the main floor, but away from the windows. The late afternoon sun was low and came straight into the mostly glass restaurant.
The service was good and the food was well presented. Perhaps we were not adventurous enough in our selection, or perhaps we got lost in the description of the 2-3 Peruvian dishes, but ended up ordering some raw seafood, steak and fish. It was a good meal, desserts were inventive, but I wonder if Peruvian food is suppose to be so similar to Vancouver-westcoast.
Excellent wine recommendation, and a problem with one of the small plates was quickly resolved. The other small plates and the mains were of excellent quality. Seamless service. We will be back.
Some of the best food/service/wine experience I've had, the wine list is curated perfectly. An absolute oasis in the city, views of the to bridges and passing boats is an absolute charm, a must visit in Vancouver. Great pinot noir (burgundy) selections I might add. Notable dishes-bigeye sashimi and Halibut!
Very disappointed!! This restaurant has been a complete miss as of late and I’m done trying to give them a chance. We had the worst waitress possible; lack of customer service, lack of attention to detail, just complete lack of knowing how to do her job!! Prices are ridiculously high for what you get. The staff walk around like pompous snobs and seriously look down at the guests unless you are known to them!!! They don’t smoke. They don’t care about you or your guests, except what your money!!! And the when the bill arrives they add dishes onto your bill that you didn’t order!! And then have the audacity to request a 22-24% tip!!!
Terrible. Don’t dine here. This place should be shut down!! It’s awful.
Ancora never disappoints.
Andreas runs a tight ship and Yoshi shines in the Sushi department.
Great staff. Everyone went above and beyond to make it a very special night for my wife.
Food was maybe the best I've had there. Think this was my 4th time there! Amazing very well seasoned food!
Ancora rhymes with the French "Encore" which means again, and I return because the food is outstanding. In a city with many top-flight restaurants and amazing Chefs, Ancora shines with its own light due to the innovative orientation leaning on Peruvian influences with a decidedly modern twist. Close to the water (1 feet away ...) and filled with natural light, lunch is a true oasis.
Great experience and interesting food combinations and flavour. My only issue was picturing some of the items as there were a lot of unfamiliar ingredients but I guess that’s expected when combining two diverse cultures. Worth checking out. Cautionary expense would be the non-stop sparkling water.
simply the best, wine, service, view-need i say more
We shared the scallop aburi sushi and it was flavourful, smokey, and tender. The sablefish dish was delicious. The portion was generous, the potato purée was smooth, quinoa crisp added a nice texture and the kale was seasoned well.
This is a venue that you would want to bring to impress someone. The view overlooking False Creek is breathtaking. Our server was attentive and presented us with macarons for our anniversary.
The prices on the menu as listed on Open Table is not the same as at the restaurant.
Great food and great service!
Noted that it was a birthday on the reservation and received no greeting or acknowledgment for my dad’s birthday. The hostess also did not ask about the special occasion as most restaurants do (ie are we celebrating an occasion tonight? What brings you in tonight? Etc.)
Service was good, our waiter was friendly but lacked attention to the needs of the guests. Two guests sat through the entire dinner with an empty glass until asked within the last 10 minutes of our dinner experience.
The table behind us spoke extremely loud which made it awkward throughout dinner being able to hear their conversations.
Food was good but nothing to rave about.
Overall value was mediocre. Likely won’t be a restaurant we would recommend or return to.
