Took my beautiful date K out here for dinner. The food is amazing, great looking Resturant and attentive staff
Awesome food!! Priceyyyish but worth it!
Very quiet night, I mean very quiet.
We enjoyed the veggie ceviche, and sea urchin starters, followed by the sable fish, and off menu, I ordered a "short rib brussel sprout combo" to make up my entree.
A request happily accommodated.
Fabulous!!!
EST restaurant in a long time!
Everything was wonderful

Ancora Ambleside is my favourite restaurant in West Van. It's beautiful, chic and trendy, designed specifically to reflect its waterfront location. Every bite is a delight!
I like the crab starter, 3 pieces of deliciousness, sometimes not on the men, but if you ask they will make it. For entrée I love the steelhead trout, my guests had the duck . For dessert we shared the picarones, it's the perfect share dessert.
Brilliant! Original, beautiful food, friendly and accommodating staff...
Awesome food. Great service. Excellent drinks.
The food was good however, there wass something missing when compared to say, La Mar, in San Francisco, or with Ceviche, in London.
We ordered the tuna ceviche which wasn't a ceviche at all. It was a tuna tatake on a Peruvian sauce. There's enough good tuna tatake in Vancouver, and if that's what we wanted, we would have gone elsewhere. We wanted a ceviche so we went to Ancora and felt a bit let down. The other criticism would be the causas. They were quite small compared to the aforementioned two other locations.
All in all it was good and we will return in the future, we were just hoping for a bit more.
Ancora is fantastic! One of the few places in the area where you can get Peruvian cuisine. The flavours are amazing and the service is always top notch.
Nice to have a really nice restaurant in West Vancouver. However, overpriced. $61 for an 8oz tenderloin.
Best seafood appetizers ever. Good value, was very worth it
Watch out for the server asking you if your want your drink being made with “well alcohol” as opposed premium and then charging you premium anyway. Very shady way of doing business!
The food was amazing same with the service and everything else.
Server was great. Was majorly over booked and took us over 2 hours to get are main. Which we took to go cause we were tired of waiting. 2nd time there won't be going back.
The beef short rib for the Valentine’s Day set menu gave me nightmares. It was of the worst things I have ever eaten. I’d be curious to try it again when it isn’t a set menu, but unfortunately that was enough to keep me away for good.
For a busy night the food was excellent. We felt the pre-fix menu was a good representation of what to come back to experience fully. The front of house staff had a rough night. Inexperienced and understaffed front door meant guests were left waiting for 30min with reso. No real organization to get people seats at the bar or anything to help the delay. Management were candid and apologetic; table service and kitchen made up for the initial poor impression. We will be back, overall we still felt the restaurant was excellent.
We chose to visit Ancora for Valentine's Day dinner as their web site stated that they had a special Valentine's tasting menu as well as their a la cart menu. When we arrived, we were informed that we would have to wait for our reservation as they were running behind. In addition, we were told that the a la cart menu was not available. After being seated at 8:15 for our 7:15 reservation, the manager came over to help us withe menu. We showed him their web site that documented the a la cart option. The manager did a great job of offering an option for my wife who had an issue with the set menu items.
The service and food presentation were excellent.
One last comment. While sitting at the bar waiting for our 7:15 table, we had the pleasure of watching the kitchen staff. Sadly, one of the items we saw was a staff member thawing out sable fillets using a propane torch with the flame from the torch touching the frozen fillets. Not the type of handling of frozen fish products that I would expect from Ancora. Needless to say I did not chose the sable menu option.
Food was great! It was Valentine’s Day so it was very busy. But the waitress’ service was excellent!
Great food and fantastic service.
I am beginning to think of Ancora as a real gem in West Vancouver
One of the best sea-food restaurants in the Greater Vancouver. Definitely THE best one on the North Shore. The food is superior; a very interesting (and successful!) twist on the Japanese cuisine. Reasonable corkage fee. We will be back, often :-)
Horrible desserts. Red meat very good.
Absolutely wonderful food, beverages ( wasabi margarita was amazing!) and very attentive service. Nice ambience too.
My only suggestion would be to list the specials shortly after giving the menus, not quite awhile later. Nicer to be informed.
This restaurant lives up to its promise. Excellent food, outstanding Serv band great ambiance.
The food is amazing, the atmosphere is calming and beautiful and the staff very welcoming 👍🏼.
Our evening at Ancora Ambleside was top notch, from beginning to end. The restaurant is beautifully appointed. We had seats by the window. The staff were attentive and professional. The sommelier was knowledgeable and suggested a very fine sake. Each of our courses were beautifully presented, tasty and portions were just right. A definite return visit is scheduled. It’s a perfect place for a romantic evening.
Got bones in my sockeye sashimi but other than that it was perfect
We loved our experience at Ancora in False Creek so thought we'd give their Ambleside location a try. The menu here doesn't seem to boast the japanese-peruvian fusion as their FC location but rather just focus on seafood, which is hardly a bad thing, just not what we were expecting/hoping. We'd initially went for the Dine Out Menu but then got wooed by the regular menu. I really wanted the coconut-sweet potato soup on the DO menu (it was a cold night and I wanted something warm) but my husband ordered the seafood "glacier" to start. My soup lacked in flavour (with the exception of the fried brussels sprouts) but my husband loved his platter. For our main course, I ordered the main size lobster both were okay, altho the steak was cooked perfectly.
Service was slow at the beginning and in a very noisy corner of the restaurant, although I suspect this was due to the fact that we ended up having to delay our reservation time by 30 mins, which was completely our fault! (A big thank you for the hostess who pushed back our reso due to our cluelessness about car2go parking -- the municipality of West Van does not allow car2go and we totally spaced on that fact, and only after we arrived at the restaurant did we realise we could not actually park there so had to drive to Park Royal and then take an Uber back to the restaurant). I believe it was the sommelier who ended up taking care of us, introducing us to some saki that we never would have ordered; he also recommended some lovely wines to go with our dinner. While we didn't enjoy our evening as much as we had at their False Creek location, we will likely return maybe in the summer to take advantage of the view.
Excellent all round!
The combination of Peruvian and Japanese influences work! There are classic Japanese sushi menu items however, duck two ways was prepared classic French style yet with Peruvian and Japanese hints of flavour. There's a decent Sake selection as well as a full-featured wine list. On a beautiful day, one may sit outside and watch the Cruise Ships go by. Even in the winter rains, the interior decor is enticing. Ancora is not inexpensive but it is worth the visit. Service was excellent and friendly.
Great food and service.
Amazing cocktails.
We were there for Dine Out Vancouver, so it was very good value. The food was excellent. Our server was very pleasant and we weren't in a hurry, but the service was excruciatingly slow. We noted that there were not any large groups and the restaurant was not full, so no explanation for the lack of service.
The Dine-out Vancouver meal was very enjoyable. The fact that we were charged $7 for "still water" does not sit well with me. Neither does the fact that a refill of a soft drink is charged at full price. A VERY expensive dinner and not worth another visit to this restaurant.
Extremely welcoming and hospitable management and staff. The range of choices is tight enough to encourage a quick decision, but wide enough to appeal to most diners. The focus is on west coast seafood and the presentation and quality was outstanding. Non-seafood diners will find choices to their satisfaction, as will non-meat eaters. Michael and David were outstanding hosts and enlivened our dining experience.
First time visit, very pleasant atmosphere, attentive service. Lots of new flavours. Very enjoyable.
The fusion of Portuguese and Japanese cuisines was innovative and of a very high quality. Lovely attention to detail.
I believe the food is pretty salty but our waitress was nice but we need to ask for the server to provide us bread which i found it a bit weird
The dining experience at Ancora Ambleside is well worth a visit. The chef presents a delicious fusion of flavours on the palate, using citrus notes to make each bite more interesting and lively. Innovative choices of ingredient combinations bring initially surprising but eventually satisfying flavour to each bite. For example, the matcha tiramisu is an excellent interpretation of the traditional dessert: creative and scrumptious. The atmosphere is elegant yet comfortable. The staff very friendly and attentive.
Wonderful food and attentive (but not overly!!) service. We also like that now they serve the seafood tower such that a single person can have it if desired (my husband did and he thought it was great) . I shall dine here again.
The food is unusual, beautifully presented and absolutely delicious. Great service with multiple check-ins to make sure we were happy. Wonderful, we will be going back.
