Food was good not great. I ordered the lobster roll. Nothing special to it. The spring on tater tots was bland. The clam chowder was excellent and the oysters were fresh. The service was atrocious!!

Not fancy but fun and tasty. Attentive knowledgeable service. Appetizers more varied than main course option. Seems like a solid, where you know what you will get, kind of place.

Difficult to find, it's down an alley which is partially blocked due to the Transbay Terminal construction. And parking?? Hah! That being said the beer list is really impressive, wine list is marginally above average (Chardonnay is alright). Seafood is excellent quality and the prices reflect that. Too few servers to efficiently cover the football size dining room.

Arrived for our 1:30pm lunch res, and the table wasn't ready. After a few minutes, we are seated, and the manager comes by to inform us "the kitchen closes in 15 minutes if you want to eat". Wow...what a way to begin your meal!

We ordered a dozen oysters, which were poorly prepared with grit and sand in them, and still connected to the shells. My wife had a luke-warm lobster bisque with zero meat in it (don't know if that was by design or just the last scoop of the lunch pot). I had the lobster roll, which was pretty good and full of lobster meat (which I was forced to relinquish to my wife and her bisque), and my cousin had the fish and chips which he says were just "ok".

At about 2:20pm, a group of conference men come in looking for a table...not only are they seated, but we also watch them order food (from the "closed" kitchen!). Maybe they had some VIP reservation, who knows...just didn't care to be told that I needed to order in the next 15 minutes before the kitchen closed, just to watch these guys come in and do as they please.

So...$200 for a mediocre meal, and one in which they clearly either didn't want our business, or just didn't care. Well...I'll continue to patronize places that actually want me to enjoy a wonderful meal and experience...and I'll likely choose not to go back to Anchor and Hope. Such a shame too...because I have had quite a few great lunches and dinners there.

Excellent food, service, overall experience. One quirk I would change - the red wines offered BTG are strangely limited. Nice choice of bubbly and whites, with 8 whites from around the world. Reds was 5 wines, 2 Pinot, 1 Zin, 2 Cabs, all from CA. We were looking for an earthy red and none of those qualify. Their bottle list shows nice depth, so the inventory is in the building, just need to offer some of those by the glass.

Delicious Fried Chicken Sandwich! Loved the seasoning and the delicate spice. Slaw was a bit salty yet enjoyable. House-made potato chips are a winner with us. Servers and bussers are highly efficient during lunch. The consistency of food and service compounded with a spotless restaurant keep us coming back!

Visited on a Sunday, less crowded than midweek making noise levels very comfortable. Food was great, but service was very slow, especially for the lower crowding. Took over 10 minutes for our sparkling water to deliver.

Overall a very enjoyable dining experience!

This was once a favorite of mine, but after this visit it is no longer. The hostess was just short of rude the entire time. I called to let them know we were running late to an already early dinner and she was abrupt and seemed annoyed. When we arrived the restaurant was empty, there was one other table so in no way was it busy and deserved the attitude I got for being 15 minutes late. Then I asked for a table in the back that had a little alcove, the hostess rudely told me it was reserved. Remember the restaurant is almost totally empty it is 6pm. The server was excellent and very kind, the food was expensive and good but not stellar. The icing on the cake at the end of our dinner was when we walked out the table we had asked to be seated in was EMPTY never having had anyone sit there while we ate. Because of the hostess I will not ever come to this place again nor will I recommend it to my friends. You might want to reconsider who you having working the front of the restaurant as they leave one of the most lasting impressions and this girl definitely left one.

Overall the service was amazing!! I assumed the raw food at "market value" would be fair but much to my dismay a SMALL order was 66 bucks (we only ate a third of the plate because we did not like it). The rest of the meal was great but overshadowed by the overpriced raw dish. Will reconsider going back but open to trying it again....

Sat down on Friday for lunch at noon. Didn't get served a glass of water until 12:15. No one would take our order til I flagged down waiter at 12:30. Didn't get served until after 1:15 when I flagged down waiter second time. Super slow service. For business meal, this is fatal. My guest was annoyed. I had to flag down waiter to get Bill to leave. Who needs that?

If you can overlook the noise and the overly salted food there are many delicious plates here. Don't order the dollar each happy hour oysters. Choose their specialties of the day. Curtis gets 5 stars for his friendly helpful ways. Beer and wine only.

The angels on horseback are terrific, as is the lobster roll. The menu offers seafood in a diverse range of dishes. From raw oysters to whole dorade, there is something for everyone. The wine and beer list are well curated. This is a lively restaurant with enjoyable food.

I ordered the Petrale Sole and it was prepared to perfection. The fish was moist and flaky and very fresh. My friend had the mussels and fries and, she devoured it. Service was spot on, waiter was friendly and attentive. I will definitely return.

This restaurant has a lot of potential- Fresh ingredients, very good wine list.

The main reason this wasn't 5 stars was the chefs obsession and overuse of hot peppers. We had a salad- to much pepper. The fish dish-to much pepper. The parolees really took away and overpowered the dish.

No Thank You.
Saturday night dinner with my husband and 20 yr. old son. Wanted something casual, good food, not touristy. Nice atmosphere in an old industrial building (a bit loud, but ok). Food was good, lots of oyster selections. The sad part was, our waiter was a total jerk. Not quite sure what we did to deserve the snub, but it was very apparent he wanted nothing to do with us.

Started out fine, ordered 2 oyster "angels on horseback" as appetizers, and a salad for me. 2 entrees requested, then I ordered the angels for my main course. He suggested bringing all three angels at the same time. I demurred and said i would prefer my salad first. Slight hint of attitude, but really it was my meal and what's the difference? Asked where the angel oysters were from. His response was "oh, East Coast oysters, whatever the kitchen has extra of ."

Great! we'd love to know, as we are from the east coast. (We raise oysters and know a lot of the local producers). A bit more attitude surfaces. Ordered a bottle of wine he suggested, fine, manager brought it and opened it. She was quite pleasant. Our waiter didn't return until dessert time, although we did hear him chatting it up with tables on either side of us. No big deal as we were there to enjoy each other, and didn't need to be best friends with our waiter.

Dessert time rolls around and he surfaces. We said no thank you, just the check. I happened to mention, did you find out about the angel oysters? Oh, they are from the west coast, whatever the kitchen has extras of. Cue puzzled looks around the table.

He approaches the table with the check, clearly turns his back to us, and backhands the bill. Really? In all my years of dining out, i have Never had a waiter turn his back to the table as he is presenting the check. Not sure what sent him over the edge, but he was clearly done with us.
Food was fine, and they will probably never read this review, but I for one will never be back.

Excellent cheeseburgers best in the area! Fries cooked to perfection. Love the house made potato chips and dipping sauce - that keeps us coming back.

Favorite place for a business lunch - we can get in and out within an hour and enjoy our food.
Owner/GM very congenial, always a pleasure to see him in the front of the house!

When the reservation was made, I indicated that this was a birthday celebration for my secretary. We were never offered a dessert menu and were brought the bill immediately.

Service was mediocre - I have had much better service at Anchor and Hope in the past especially on a Wednesday at 12:00 Noon when the restaurant was not yet fully seated. I dine at Anchor and Hope at least 3 - 4 times per month.

Fish and Chips was very disappointing - fish was severely under cooked - I took it home and showed my boyfriend who is a restaurant manager and he shook his head in disbelief. Portion was equally disappointing. My secretary ordered Fish and Chips and his portion was double mine.

Suggestion: Weigh your fish when you portion it out each morning to ensure that every patron gets the same amount of product. Please cook your fish until it reaches an internal temperature of at least 160 degrees and do NOT serve fish that is raw in the middle unless a patron requests it.
