Easy to get in for Valentines and now I know why. Just wasn’t very good. The lobster roll was a hot mess. The over toasted bread on both sides was too big to bite into and the tater tots were these odd big shaped things. You don’t mess with a classic like tater tots. And it was not cheap. Lived in Boston for eight years and was excited to eat here. However it was a huge disappointment and doesn’t compare to the seafood on the East Coast. I think this place doesn’t know what it wants to be. For example in the bathroom is a sailing chart of the Washington state peninsula. That seems kind of random considering they’re serving East Coast style seafood in a restaurant in Northern California. It summed up the restaurant perfectly - confused and not knowing what it wants to be. Is it casual, is it fresh, is it fancy? Is that random large sized thing on my plate a tater tot? Skip this one. You can get better seafood elsewhere.

Enjoyed a great lunch here last Wednesday. The Fresh Oysters were perfect. Best bowl of Clam Chowder that I have ever been served. Crab Roll was delicious! I will eat here anytime I visit San Francisco.

Wow! What a great find. Tucked in a corner off of 2nd street, I visited Anchor with a client for a lunch meeting and I was impressed. We tried the crab and lobster rolls and also the bacon wrapped oysters.. yes bacon wrapped lol. Each dish hit the spot and left me wanting more. Will definitely be back to this gem soon!

The food was fine. Very expensive, but perfectly acceptable. The fish and chips was fine. The soup was excellent. The Crab Louie was fine. The food here is not going to win any awards but was enjoyable.

Came here as part of a celebration weekend. The service was excellent and the food was divine. We had the oysters, Mussels, which were both fresh and delicious. We enjoyed the chowder which I felt had the perfect consistency, and the beet salad was delicious and unique. We finished with the crab pasta.....it was outstanding with lots of crab. We will certainly be back again!!!

Being from NYC, we are spoiled with the various cuisines at hand and most places are open late night. We were looking for a place that didnt close at 10p. We liked the vibe ao decided to check it out. The food was outstanding, great selection of raw bar (oysters, shrimp, clams) and a lovely choice of fresh and creative dishes. We had the cauliflower soup garnished with fried onions and balsamic reduction, the clam chowder w bacon had great depth of flavor, shishito peppers to start and some raw bar and for dessert bread pudding w a delectable caramel sauce to die for. - all fresh and yummy! The service was excellent. Our waitress was attentive but not intrusive and knowledgeable. Music was good too. Loved the open kitchen. Will definitely be back again when Im back in SF. Absolutely recommend this place.

This is a restaurant that has excellent seafood as well as a significant beer menu. Our server was friendly and knowledgeable. The noise level was high, but tolerable and the food itself excellent.

For a 30$ you're better off skipping the lobster role - it's so small. The pasta was decent. Overall unimpressive.

If you're celebrating anything this is not the place to go, as they don't care.

Best bread pudding ever had. Their fish and chips were on point! Great beer selection. Service was a little lacking considering we had to remind our waiter to bring back the water 2 times. But overall, great place to dine.

We had a bit of difficulty getting our food - but it was really good. Bread pudding w caramel and apple crisp that tasted home made. The lobster rolls looked great. We ate five appetizers and all were good. It is a loud place but it is not bothersome. Bar is active before dinner opens.
The restaurant was full on a rainy night which is a good sign. Was recommended to me by a person who eats out a good bit -

The food was ok, not great, but the main reason we didn’t enjoy The Hope and Anchor was because it was very cold in there. Eventually we put our coats on while finishing our meal.

This is a fun, lively restaurant and caters to the business crowd. You definitely need to make a reservation for lunch. I like the fact that they serve lobster rolls and crab rolls which are not common in restaurants. The rolls are delicious; however, I feel $28-29 is too expensive for what you get. Portions are adequate but not huge.

We went here for NYE dinner. We were early and was able to be seated quickly. That was nice. Upon seating we were greeted and given menus. My wife and I were on the search for some great cocktails since it was NYE. That is when the dinner turned...Anchor and Hope only serve beer and wine.?!? You guys, this can’t be real... it’s 2018 Now and you don’t serve liquor? The entrees were 4-5 choices only. 2 of the 5 were lobster/crab rolls. I ordered the lobster roll. Very good. My wife ordered the hangar steak which worded it was with sweet potatoes. The steak was tender and good to go, but the purée under the steak didn’t taste like sweet potatoes so we asked the server to find out what it was.... she never came back with an answer. That is part of the upper $ dining experience. If you ask the server to find out something he/she should have the courtesy to find out or send someone over to answer a few questions. Lame. Overall I would go back for some beers and rolls and not stray away from that.

A great dinner on NYE. A shame that the only cocktails available were wine/ beer based and the menu was limited. Still, the food we did eat was tasty and beautifully presented. Easy location to find and great Ambience.

The first thing the hostess said to us is "you know you can only have this table until 815 and you have to leave them. We're busy." There were no pleasantries, and we were placed in a skinny table between two other couples. This is with reservations! They were not fill when we sat down nor the whole time we ate. We had to ask several times to get bread and refills on drinks, and to order. Perhaps they were understaffed, but for 30 dollars a plate I expected less hassle. My husband's office is across the street, but with this experience their are better places for less money in the area.

The bar does not disclose on its website that it is wine/beer only which is disappointing. The waiter makes it very clear you are drinking tap water if you don't opt for the upsell bottled water. My girlfriend's fish was way too salty however the one bright spot was my clam chowder that was very good.

First time there a few years ago I would give a FIVE+ star review, for food, ambience, service. It excelled in all of these.
This trip, food was good but not exceptional (some items over salted, others no salt/low flavor). Service was good but nothing extraordinary.

Anchor and Hope has awesome atmosphere and even better food! We started off with the ceviche and some oysters and they also brought out house-made salt and vinegar chips with an aioli dipping sauce that was so good!!! Our group had the lobster roll, fish and chips and salmon for our meals. Everything was fabulous and the service was spot on!

I have loved this place since I first visited over 5 years ago. Their menu is the best and their service is impeccable. The noise level is high, but I never feel like I'm yelling across the table. The food is always so fresh and I'm never disappointed! Excellent wine list as well!

We arrived to find two girls french kissing in the doorway.Lucky I did not have my grandchildren with me.Went to the hostess who was very off as she was busy on the phone hmmmm. We had a booking but they were half empty. We waited asked for a particular table and was told we could have it for 30 minutes as someone else wanted it.They never showed up hmmmm. We sat at the bar very cold service. The place had a very strange vibe.No one seemed very happy. We told them we are glutton free and not by choice. Our meal came with couscous.I asked if it was G.F. she said yes but I asked her again and she checked,it was not.The food is nothing remarkable.Service mechanical. We were the last 2 people on a very long bar. They decide to count there money and receipts right in front of us.We moved down and they did not even look up.There are so many better places in the City.Do not waste your money here.

Our server was awesome - it wasn’t busy at all when we arrived so we were seated immediately. Food was delicious, but man oh man - the chips that come with the fish n chips were A PLENTY! Way too much for one or even two people to eat! Didn’t mind though, we took them home and our kids devoured them!
