From the owners of Town Hall and Salt House comes Anchor & Hope Restaurant, an oyster bar and fish house located at 83 Minna Street. Housed in a renovated, 100 year old brick building, formerly the studio of sculptor Benny Bufano, Anchor & Hope offers the warmth of an Eastern Seaboard fish house with dishes such as warm sea urchin served in the shell, our lobster roll, and petrale sole…and yes, there are dishes for those who fear the sea.

Cute seafood place with urban vibe in the SoMo area. Extremely friendly and efficient service in a wood beamed, high ceiling open space. Pretty good classic New England seafood with a nice selection of oysters and shellfish. An enjoyable meal.

New school seafood joint. Space and ambiance are nice but doesn't seem to fit in the location. Food was ok but overpriced for the portion and quantity. Probably wouldn't go back or recommend to a friend.

Pros- clam chowder was spot on. The fresh potato chips were great. Crab remoulade was also delicious. Nice variety on the wine list. House made tater tots!

Cons- the lobster on the roll was a little tough. The cappuccino was awful.

Overall a very nice meal & we will return.

Was asked to move tables to accommodate a foursome which we had no problem doing but as a nice gesture the bar should have bought us a round or something to say thank you. Go to water bar much better food/service

Just dined here tonight 3/22/18.
Great food, god AWFUL service (other than the busboys, who were kind and prompt). I came here with 2 friends at 5:45, before happy hour was over at 6.

-the host, an older gentleman with a beard repeated twice when he sat us that he needed the table by 8 pm.
-we asked our waitress about happy hour, she gave us the options (she didn't know the menu well) and we ordered some drinks, only to be scolded by said host that happy hour was only for the bar (no one told us any different when we ordered). The host then asked if we were doing happy hour or dinner - when we just ordered food from the main menu.
-our waitress proceeded to never check in on us during our meal so we had to ask another waiter to take our order and he said our waitress assumed we didn't want anything else because we ordered happy hour...all in our bill was 160 dollars.

The whole experience was overall very uncomfortable. They made us feel like our money wasn't good enough. Mind you, happy hour is advertised on all of their receipts as being an everyday occurrence ending at 6 pm...

I suggest management reassessing their staff and investing in hires with a higher level of professional acumen if they hope to maintain a consistent clientele.

We thought the space was very cool- the details: menu, business cards, decor, etc were very good. But they really lacked in service tonight- not sure if they had a couple call-offs in the server position or what. The food was average for the price- lobster macncheese was just bad- poorly flavored, no lobster to speak of.

Service was not up to par this time: they seemed very understaffed for a busy Thursday night. The server told us that they were almost out of Lobster for their signature dish (Lobster roll) -- this was at 8 pm. She then forgot the wine -- didn't get it until after appetizers, lots of apologies and comped one of the starters. The lobster roll was the best dish; salmon was on a bed of puree that was overly sweet (unnecessarily, in our view).

Service was poor. We had to flag down the waiter several times to order drinks, food and get the bill. He forgot the order, came back to verify and still brought the wrong entree for one of us. Atmosphere is fun, food is ok, but service is reason not to return

I expected more.

The seafood platter was good, but one of the prawns wasn't completely deviened. Clams, oysters, and crab were as expected.

The calamari appetizer was horrible. It was lacking ALL flavor and clearly wasn't seasoned before service. It's hard to screw up fried calamari but this was possibly the worst I've ever had.

The two cooked oyster appetizers and entrees were enjoyable.

Service was a bit lacking. Time between courses was long and an incredible 25 min from when I ordered dessert to when it arrived. It was comped, but that doesn't excuse the time.

Probably the worst experience I've ever had at a restaurant. Apparently our server was Fiona, but we wouldn't know that bc she walked up to our table and asked if we're ready. This was after we waited 10 minutes and finally asked for our server. No hello, welcome, etc. Then she disappeared for the rest of the night. Food runners brought our food, someone else explained my oysters, and some one else brought our check. In the mirror I could see her service many other tables so clearly, she knew how to be a waitress. We had to ask for service twice during the meal. Would not return, disappointing at best.

We've eaten there before, and while the food was good, it wasn't quite as good as other times. The angels on horseback appetizer was great, as was my cocktail. The Dungeness crab salad was excellent, and sole was good, but my fish tacos were fairly tasteless and seemed to lack something. I recalled some aioli on the menu, which it was lacking, but when they brought some to me, the aioli was sweet and didn't go with the fish. But we like this place and will return, and we recommend it - just avoid the fish tacos.

Disappointed to rate the experience at Anchor and Hope as 1 out of 5 due to an odd interaction with the hostess. We arrived at Anchor and Hope at 7:30pm and had a reservation for 8pm. Upon arrival I acknowledged we were 30 minutes early and asked the hostess if we could grab a drink at the bar while we wait. She immediately said no, that we had to leave the restaurant and come back at 8pm. There were two open seats at the bar, and no one standing, so I was confused what type of restaurant would tell a customer with a reservation they were not allowed to get a drink at the bar while they wait for their table. Not looking for conflict we left and came back at 8pm, and were greeted by a waitress who said she would seat us immediately. Confused by the sight of a group of people standing at the bar, I asked if bar seating was reserved or if we could grab a drink before dinner. She said of course, you don’t need a reservation to stand at the bar.
The food was great but I’m left with a bad taste in my mouth from the hostess and any possible reasoning why a paying customer should be turned away and told to come back in 30 minutes when there was space to stand...

Easy to get in for Valentines and now I know why. Just wasn’t very good. The lobster roll was a hot mess. The over toasted bread on both sides was too big to bite into and the tater tots were these odd big shaped things. You don’t mess with a classic like tater tots. And it was not cheap. Lived in Boston for eight years and was excited to eat here. However it was a huge disappointment and doesn’t compare to the seafood on the East Coast. I think this place doesn’t know what it wants to be. For example in the bathroom is a sailing chart of the Washington state peninsula. That seems kind of random considering they’re serving East Coast style seafood in a restaurant in Northern California. It summed up the restaurant perfectly - confused and not knowing what it wants to be. Is it casual, is it fresh, is it fancy? Is that random large sized thing on my plate a tater tot? Skip this one. You can get better seafood elsewhere.

Wow! What a great find. Tucked in a corner off of 2nd street, I visited Anchor with a client for a lunch meeting and I was impressed. We tried the crab and lobster rolls and also the bacon wrapped oysters.. yes bacon wrapped lol. Each dish hit the spot and left me wanting more. Will definitely be back to this gem soon!

Came here as part of a celebration weekend. The service was excellent and the food was divine. We had the oysters, Mussels, which were both fresh and delicious. We enjoyed the chowder which I felt had the perfect consistency, and the beet salad was delicious and unique. We finished with the crab pasta.....it was outstanding with lots of crab. We will certainly be back again!!!

Being from NYC, we are spoiled with the various cuisines at hand and most places are open late night. We were looking for a place that didnt close at 10p. We liked the vibe ao decided to check it out. The food was outstanding, great selection of raw bar (oysters, shrimp, clams) and a lovely choice of fresh and creative dishes. We had the cauliflower soup garnished with fried onions and balsamic reduction, the clam chowder w bacon had great depth of flavor, shishito peppers to start and some raw bar and for dessert bread pudding w a delectable caramel sauce to die for. - all fresh and yummy! The service was excellent. Our waitress was attentive but not intrusive and knowledgeable. Music was good too. Loved the open kitchen. Will definitely be back again when Im back in SF. Absolutely recommend this place.

If you're celebrating anything this is not the place to go, as they don't care.
