V day dinner super delish, any of the oysters are simply mouth watering!
Had a good experience on Valentine’s Day. The Brussel sprouts were tasty and the mushroom soup was great — fish and chips were solid and the black cod was very good. Seating felt a bit tight, but would recommend overall.
Very good quality seafood in a traditional warehouse style SF venue. Prices were a little high for what it is but my clients were impressed so I would go again, provided the business is paying the tab. Like most places of this type in SF, the room is cold and drafty so you have to dress warmly. Oysters were particularly good but, at $48 for a dozen, about twice the price you would pay at many similar places. Small plates were the best value - about $16 each and two could amount to a decent meal.
VERY VERY disappointed that the new menu ELIMINATED our favorite thing. THE LOBSTER ROLL. we shall not return to this restaurant unless they reverse this decision
Great food and friendly staff
It was 50 degrees outside and pouring rain, so my daughter and I were freezing the entire time! No heat inside and We were ready to get home! BUT as always, fresh and delicious food and very sweet waitress...
I've been to Anchor & Hope a number of times during the years, but this recent experience was very poor. The restaurant had no heat, water leaked onto our table from the rain, our appetizer came out after our entrees were served. It took longer than normal to get our tea because they ran out of cups. I had the lobster cobb salad and there was no seasoning or salt...it tasted so bland. I had a cup of clam chowder which was good. We paid about $250 for 4 people...not worth it.
We got there early before much of the dinner crowd. The waitress was very helpful on the wine selection and worked with us on several offerings. Lack of a full bar is a negative though.
Robert our server was very patient and good with us. The squash side dish amazing!
All fresh was previously frozen, nothing fresh and the quantities are terribly small. Yelp has is correct at a 3 star place - good to avoid.
Lovely place. Chowder very good as well as “angels”. However cod needed some more flavor and was quite bland. Also could have used some bread to go with meal
Service was slow on this busy night. However, since we were meeting friends we only see once a year we were happy to spend two hours plus dinning. I had feared the nose level, but it was not as loud as expected and we were able to carry on a conversation. The food was excellent.
Second time dining and happy that I came back!
I was really bummed out by my experience at Anchor & Hope. Our party of 6 arrived on time for our 6PM reservation and ordered drinks and appetizers when we were seated. The restaurant was about 20% full at that time. This was on a Tuesday. It took over 20 minutes to get wine and beer. Appetizers may have arrived before all of the drinks. Our dinner was served around 8PM. One person had to leave before his meal came. The service was very poor. If there were problems in the kitchen, it would have been nice to know instead of having to ask about our meals. Once we asked, our food was delivered in about 20 minutes. It seemed like our order was forgotten. Total disappointment, and a lot of money. I wanted my group to like Anchor & Hope. Instead, I felt bad for suggesting it.
Food is a bit flavorless - lacking salt and seasoning
I have never had a bad meal here. The soup and salad made an outstanding lunch. Of course I had to start with a half dozen oysters.
Food, service and vibe is very pleasant. Very good oysters.
Only complaint was that they ran out of oyster crackers for the clam chowder. Not sure how that happens....
The blackened fish and blackened fish tacos were amazing?
Go to place for fish / sea food. Good selection of wine and beer. Prices are a bit on the higher end. So I'd rec for special occasions. But one knows one's pocket better than I do.
Tuna tartare was delicious!
Pear salad was nice but would have preferred a greens combo. Too many stems to enjoy.
Oysters were terrific.
Perfect atmosphere for client/business lunches.
I really liked the food - it’s a good place for a lunch break. They were rushing us a little bit too much to order but otherwise it was great.

Fish and chips very salty, over fried and oily.
This nice fish house leaves you satisfied. Service is good. Our meals came promptly and hot from the kitchen. We both had fish entrees (of course!) My salmon was sweet and fresh as was my SO's sea bass. We will go back.
Service was slow despite being empty. They had run out of half the entree options as well as the alcohol on their cocktail list.
They also forgot to add things we ordered

The Seahorse plateaux tasted very fresh & the Brussels sprouts were seasoned well! The restaurant is a bit drafty for a fall night. There are large old skylights and not much for insulation, judging by the exposed wooden structure.
Interesting decor.... was very cold however, with high Ceilings and no insulation. Beer and wine only but a good range of selections. Flounder fish and chips were good... but not remarkable. Calamari was very good. Not a bad choice near Moscone.
Best tuna tartare I have ever had , great cocktails, lovely, hip casual environment. Great service -highly recommend.

Very enjoyable place to appreciate deliciously prepared food in a very rustic and original setting. Just a short walk away from our hotel, we were greeting with a smile. Sat immediately at a cute table. They are all rustic looking wool and such.
The chef accommodated a special request to have some portions of our items grilled ( amazing chorizo butter). The crab Louie salad was fresh and clean. A normally would like more dressing and pepper, but the delicate salad needed nothing but the simple elegance of the flavors the chef designed.
A non tourist place, would go again.
Service was outstanding. Food was underwhelming. House made tots were undercooked, bland. Bread pudding not good at all. All other dishes were just ok.

Very unique setting and good food.
Looked good from the outside but the food was truly poor. The raw bar experience was very disappointing and outrageously priced. The clams were miniature and more sand or shell bits than meat. Deep fried canned sardines were called fried anchovies. Truly greasy and awful. Our server showed good poise in the face of my incredulity. Not sure how this place flourishes in San Francisco.
I love this place for seafood!! The anchovy appetizer was outstanding and all the other dishes were well-prepared too. I recommend this place for anyone who enjoys fresh seafood.
