Anchor and Hope
Anchor and Hope was nothing special. Probably wouldn't go back here, mainly because my mussels were pretty flavorless. I liked the ambiance, and beer selection. Service started out great--we had not one but two very attentive waiters--but then as the crowd cleared out, both of our waiters disappeared for some reason and we waited probably at least a half hour for someone to come back to our table so we could get the check. I've had better in Soma.
Got there at 1pm so rush over. Great table and prompt, courteous service. Food met expectations.
Voyage à San Francisco
Little loud. Little basic. But okay.
Been coming here since they opened. Always fresh and quality meals. Great place.
food was very solid.
waiter at the bar (aaron) couldn't have had more attitude and seemed to be more put out to serve customers...which is odd given that he is..a waiter and a bartender. his little comments about the fact that we wanted to keep the cocktail sauce to dip in the bread ("i've never seen that!"...but not in a nice way); telling us that we could NOT have bread when we sat down because there was a limited amount the restaurant had for the night (forgetting the fact that is was 800 pm and the restaurants was nowhere near to full...why not jus tsay YES!); but when i ordered mussels i could have as much bread as i wanted; attitude when we asked about the oysters. overall...just, and this is the best word to describe him...a dick. it RUINED the experience for us.
i would come back for the food...but will never have him as a waiter.
Great event to celebrate anything with friends. The food was fresh and very tasty! The Calamari is amazing!
Our server was excellent: attentive but did not hover. She was familiar with all the menu and the wine list and very helpful. She gave us time to enjoy wine and an hors d oeuvre before our entrée. All the staff were friendly. We will definitely return.
The seafood plateau was incredible. As was the chablis. The mussels were weird/musky - don’t bother with those. I sent them back & exchanged for lobster roll which was decadent. The bread pudding knocked our socks off! A lovely dinner.
Phenomenal service. The food was delicious and they had something for everyone even my picky girlfriend felt it was easy to decide.
I will be returning!
Perfectly good seafood with an attempt to give super fine dining treatment. Upgraded fish tacos, fish & chips, oysters, but too overpriced. Also, beer & wine only?
Good food. Decent service. Too loud.
The food was great, creative, and savory.
What a disappointment... highly recommended by local friends but: ridiculous oversized starter portion (almost a whole lettuce), server bringing dessert menus before main course served, then strange chowder recipe!! Vastly overpriced, also wines.....
Reunion spot for me and my friend after 10 years. The waiter was lovely - so patient with us catching up and taking our time ordering and brought us complimentary champagne! He proactively suggested bringing our apps and taking our time ordering mains, and was still very attentive while giving us the time and space to celebrate! I have come here at least 2-3 other times and will continue to do so!!
Great meal, service was excellent, the server and kitchen had no issues with my dairy free diet. Excellent experience.
We had the cod and the lobster roll. The fish was cooked perfectly and the lobster roll to die for. I'll definitely be back when I'm back in the bay area.
Great for enjoy the freshseafood
Disappointing. Misled by their “cocktail” menu to come to find they do not have a full bar and their cocktails are Vermouth variants. You review menus to determine if you can what you want. In my case that is Craft Cocktails. If I can’t get it, I’m going somewhere else. Food was so so.
Great staff! Very friendly, helpful with menu descriptions and recs. Would definitely come again. :)
Just a great all around experience. We stayed from open til near close and just ate and talked. Staff was right on and left us to our thing while making sure we had whatever we needed. Neighborhood-y feel in a non-neighborhood location.
Perfect location, Lobster Roll fantastic...reservation’s table very nice
Food was delicious and service was great!
Incredibly fresh seafood, excellent salads and side dishes, good wine list. A favorite of ours. Service is always excellent.
We've were celebrating a birthday. Our servers were great and helpful with suggestions. Our choice of appetizer was awesome . The food for the most part was great. Mostly seafood which I love but limited on other courses of meat/ chicken. Over all we had a great time and we would definitely go back.
The sole and squash was delicious. Service prompt and courteous. Only complaint was two top table was very close to neighboring tables which caused a privacy concern.
Anchor and Hope is one of our go-to spots for casual lunch / dinner business meetings. They were able to accommodate a large party last minute despite not originally showing availability. The food, service, and ambiance never disappoint.
Great service and help choosing cocktails and apps and entrées.
We had a great lunch. The chowda was very good and my lobsta roll was excellent. The service was spot on. It became very busy very fast, and it was loud, but not so loud you couldn't talk. I look forward to returning.
Service was horrible
I sat forever before we were even acknowledged at our table
Had to wait for server to finish chatting before I got my check
Out of town will never go there or suggest it to anyone
Food so not worth the high price
Too cold at table
The service is great, friendly but not obsequious. I thought my dinner--a starter of West Coast oysters and a main of mussels--was tasty. My boyfriend found the flounder in his fish & chips too oily and the breading heavy, although the chips were perfect. It seemed like a lovely evening--until 36 hours later, when the "gastrointestinal distress" arrived. Always a risk with raw seafood, but it's my first time losing this lottery.
This is my go-to sitdown/take reservations/business having lunch spot. The staff are friendly and efficient. Menu covers most everyone's dietary needs. Food is really good. Portion sizes are just right - not "comatose" causing and not leaving you hungry. Only wish it was just a touch quieter (some acoustic noise softening) for ease of conversation. Can't go wrong!
That place is awesome. The food and service is amazing. Great ambiance. Feels like a cannery in Monterrey. My friend and I both had the lobster/squash soup and the salmon for our entree. We both agreed it was the best salmon we have ever had.
Ate at Anchor & Hope for a customer dinner during RSA. Has reservation for 4, but showed up with five (I should’ve called ahead. Even though it was busy, they were able to accommodate. Everything was great, especially the bacon wrapped oysters.
Very expensive for the quality of food. Service was fantastic but it doesn’t make up for over priced sub par seafood :(
Great place for a business lunch. Extra requests were well handled!!
Fiona nous a très bien accueillis
Tout l’équipe est très professionnel
Been coming to Anchor & Hope for 5+ years for dinners or lunches with friends and it is always wonderful. Great selection of beers, including Belgian beers. Usually have the monster fresh shell fish and lobster feast and always leave with a happy tummy.
