An Apple A Day & Meg's Cafe
Nice in town dining spot with great food
Can’t wait to go back. The food was delicious and the atmosphere was light and fresh.
Setting is tasteful: diversified art:posters, table flowers, linen napkins, upscale plating/ flatware, light woods, double layered tables, neatly dressed servers; yet modest, thoughtful, friendly. Menu: limited, yet every dish appealing, fully described, sense of conviction. Popular chicken pot pie bursting with chicken, veggies, creamy sauce in perfect crunchy pastry shell, so well constructed that traditional porcelain was eschewed. Whole pan seared white fish enriched with tasteful white sauce. Generous pours of nicely selected wines. Good bread, with generous chunk of sweet butter.
Only trade off is wood has no softening: makes for sometimes uncomfortable noise level.
Huge value. We live barely 30 minutes away. I cannot imagine why we’d never been here before.
Pleasant restaurant with friendly service, ideal for dinner before a 7:30 p.m. curtain at Writers Theater, an easy five minute walk away. Be sure tell your wait person you are going to the theater.
We sat outside where it’s quieter than inside. The food was outstanding and reasonably priced as always. I had the lemon chicken piccata and my friend had the pecan crusted salmon. Started with salads and shared a brownie à la mode for dessert. Service was outstanding. We wanted to linger and were not rushed at all. Five stars-plus!
Will definitely be back. Have dinner and then take home tuna salad or chicken salad for lunch
Very accommodating. We brought the cake and sparkler for our daughter’s birthday. The server presented the lit cake to our table. Food was tasty: chicken pot pie, shrimp tacos, hummus, crab cakes. Yummy!
I’ve eaten here in a couple of occasions now. Most of the menu is very well executed. However this time, I had the Potpie. Very dry, and no liquid at all in the pie. Thought it was just a fluke, but another in our party had it and it was exactly the same way. I’ve had it before and it was great so I’m wondering if they change their menu.
Perfect place for pre-theater dinner with a “something for everyone” menu. We’ve been there many times. Unfortunately the food has not gotten better and this time, everything was just OK. Pot pie, hamburger, fish and salads were all fine, just not special in any way.
Always a pleasure. We are members at Writers Theatre and visit Meg's before every play we attend. The food is very good, the ownership very appreciative of the business theater patrons bring to them, and the service is outstanding.
Very disappointed in the salmon Was served an end piece with little meat on the fish and hard to pull the meat off. I should have sent it back But I will continue to eat there.
We had such a nice evening and the service was terrific. After dinner, we took a walk and got the chance to see an antique motorcycle show. Incredible all the way around.
Wonderful before theater restaurant. Good menu with good service.
As usual, the food was fresh and well prepared. We sat for quite a while eating and talking and never felt rushed. This is a very good neighborhood restaurant.
Food was delicious. Everybody liked the service and the food.
Good food and good service walking distance to Writer's Theater ~ wonderful combination!
Our waiter was friendly and attentive with good suggestions and honored my request to chop my salad.
Felt that our business was appreciated, will be back!
The food was delicious. Vegetarian entrées were plentiful. Great location when going to writers theater afterwards. Highly recommend this restaurant due to the good service and the outstanding food. Don’t miss the desserts at the end.
Delightful neighborhood restaurant with a wonderful catering service as well.
Great food, great service great price. What more could you want?
Always reliably good diverse menu with great healthy choices. I had an excellent fish in lemon beurre blanc, but the squash accompaniment was too sweet for my taste
Hot fresh bread is a plus.
They're so nice here and the choices are solid. My gazpacho was delicious but the fish tacos were really bland.
Great food! Really enjoyed all the courses. Support local!!!
We were absolutely shocked. We had a confirmed reservation and the restaurant was closed and that is terrible. We had no dinner before a show. Is it your fault or the restaurant’s fault to be so negligent ? Please advise.
A very nice, quiet place to have dinner with friends. The fish and chicken dishes were well done and the service is very friendly and efficient.
I was a little disappointed about the reduced menu, but otherwise, a great neighborhood restaurant!
Nice variety of options. Friendly service and good entrees.
One of the best in the area for high quality food, and delicious flavor profiles!! The staff is very accommodating and goes overboard to make sure every special request is fulfilled and all food allergy concerns are accommodated. Barbara, the owner, is a delight and her team mirrors this attribute! Book a reservation now! You won't be disappointed!!
Excellent "local" venue with vegetarian options. Great restaurant for a dinner prior to Writer's Theatre located one block away. Creative, well-prepared and well-presented menu.
Meg's is a neighborhood gem that never disappoints. Food and service are top notch. The staff is accommodating and eager to please. Adjacent to Writers Theater, it's an icon on the North Shore.
Good food, not crowded, nice service and a warm atmosphere - can't be beat prior to a Writer's Theatre play.
Great salmon special!
This is a special restaurant!!! Love the food and ambience. We will be back.
WE ARE AT APPLE A DAY A LOT FOR LUNCH, DINNER & CATERING.
I DON'T KNOW IF IT WAS THE LATER TIME OF OUR DINNER, BUT BOTH THE SERVICE WAS WAY
OFF AND THE FOOD WAS FAIR. IT SEEMED THE STAFF THAT WERE THERE WHERE EITHER ANXIOUS TO CLOSE UP OR JUST PLANE TIRED!! TOOK FOREVER TO GET THE WAITER TO TAKE OUR DESSERT ORDER AS WELL AS THE CHECK.
THIS WAS REALLY AN OFF NIGHT . OUR FRIENDS WERE REALLY NOT HAPPY EITHER
Ab Fab !! Que rico !! We will be bck !! Waitress - LaLe - the best !!
I had the trout special and it was without a doubt the most wonderful fish dinner I’ve ever had. Cooked to perfection and delightfully seasoned. The rice pilaf was equally delicious.
Meg’s Cafe is an ideal spot before Writers Theatre - just a block or two from the theatre. Mostly serving comfort food with wine and beer options - they are very aware of patrons’ need to get to the theater on time - and handle a full restaurant with friendly service
We ordered the Chicken Pot Pie. Filling was very dry. There was not enough of the usual gravy or sauce on the inside. Everything else about the restaurant experience was great. We will certainly return.
Fabulous as always! Start to finish!!
Wonderful comfort food served in a cozy room with a fireplace. Perfect place for dinner before attending a play at the Writer's Theater (located just around the block). Hubby and I both had the chicken pot pie--perfect amount for him, half leftover for me which I reheated and enjoyed again two days later. Perfect flaky crust, plenty of veggies and chicken in a tummy-warming gravy. We had the drunken shrimp as an appetizer and that was delicious as well. Soup is included: I had the butternut squash (sweet) and hubby had the tomato (savory). We'll definitely be back again!
