Very accommodating and food was very good!
We squeezed in an outdoor dinning while our weather held out. It’s well worth the drive for a meal but a little far for us to do carry out.
A wide range of wonderful choices even in these days of fewer menu items everywhere. Desserts are all very fresh and great recipes used to create something extra special in every bite. We try to try different Resturants nearby in downtown but then can’t seem to help but go to Megs twice to each other Resturant we try. It’s a 20 minute drive from our home but we’ll worth it. Well be back again and again
Food is so delicious!
Great value on daily special meals for 2 or 4. Ate outside in warm fall weather. Sesame crusted salmon was very good. Nice kids meals.
What a gem! Went for dinner back the next day for lunch and shopping local. Great vibe all around.
Great service and ambiance. Limited selection, but so far had the Chicken Pot Pie-Amazing, Meatloaf- very good, and the Lemon Chicken Piccata - delicious
Always nice especially before theatre. Very lovely people who serve etc
We did dinner before Writers Theatre. This place is so convenient for that. More importantly, you know you are in a great restaurant when your meal is excellent but you are jealous of what your dining-mates ordered.
Always something appealing on menu. Sometimes a delightful surprise. We enjoyed our dinner.
Yummy! What a nice midweek treat. Hidden gem.
Valentines Day was an unexpected fun time with music, balloons, and a gift of tulips and candy after the Bill was paid. Guests sang with the entertainer, there was photos, and much more. Butternut soup was great, trout OK, chocolate mousse good. It was all good enough.
Great Valentines Day meal. They even had a live singer to entertain.
Valentine’s Day was terrific! Special menu, photographer and a wonderful singer who sounded like Frank Sinatra! Then, flowers and chocolates on the way out! A fabulous evening!!
Love this place!
A wonderful neighborhood bistro with excellent food and service.
My wife and I were moderately disappointed, having had very positive experiences in the past. Meg’s is very warm and homey, and prices (except for wines) are a value in today’s economy. While service was very pleasant and friendly, we were rushed and delivery of items was somewhat uneven. The butternut squash soup was great, and the Caesar salad (included with entree) was authentic and very good. My wife really enjoyed her chicken piccata, and my chicken pot pie was good but not as good as in past visits and the crust overdone. Mushy carrots were an unnecessary accompaniment. The bread was excellent. I think it was an off night, so we’ll give it another chance in the future.
3 entrees at dinner and all were great especially the salmon
Food was very good, service was a bit off. Not too friendly, seemed rush, didn’t come back to see how we were doing and if we needed anything more.
Make sure to make reservations when Writers Theater has a show (or two) running. This place is a favorite spot for pre-theater dining.
A long standing favorite for many attendees at Writers Theatre performances in Glencoe. Comfortable surroundings, good food and customer orientation.
Love this restaurant! The chicken pot pie is to die for.
This is our pre-theater go to place. Root vegetable soup was inedible, overly reduced and salty. Caesar salad was like eating a bag salad with bottled dressing. Salmon was overcooked. Pasta had to be returned. Worst meal we have ever had there. Not sure what happened but will probably not return. Too bad.
We loved our first experience at the cafe, so introduced friends to our new “find” for an anniversary dinner. Being a Monday night, it wasn’t busy at all so our service was good, and we were one of only a handful of tables. The dining room emptied out quickly, so even though 7:50 pm isn’t late, we felt we should leave. We hadn’t even put our coats on and the lights were turned up day bright so they could clean, so we left. Clearly no management was around to thank us for dining, and I can only hope that that was the reason for the less than subtle message!
What a wonderful little gem. Our first visit, but it certainly won’t be our last!
Service was attentive and gracious even though there was clearly ‘theatre crowd” that needed to get in and out quickly.
The food was well prepared, tasty and generous in portion. Everything we ate had a wholesome, house made quality and delicious!
Bravo!!
Meg's is a consistently good value with wonderful food. I remarked to my friend about a special that didn't sound to my taste, that whatever it was the chef would make it taste good. My dinner was delicious as always.
Food and service were very good.
Meg's Cafe has a solid menu and perfect for before a trip to the Writer's Theatre! Staff is attentive, food very good, very nice ambiance, not too big, not too loud. Perfect pre-show setting.
Nice in town dining spot with great food
Can’t wait to go back. The food was delicious and the atmosphere was light and fresh.
Setting is tasteful: diversified art:posters, table flowers, linen napkins, upscale plating/ flatware, light woods, double layered tables, neatly dressed servers; yet modest, thoughtful, friendly. Menu: limited, yet every dish appealing, fully described, sense of conviction. Popular chicken pot pie bursting with chicken, veggies, creamy sauce in perfect crunchy pastry shell, so well constructed that traditional porcelain was eschewed. Whole pan seared white fish enriched with tasteful white sauce. Generous pours of nicely selected wines. Good bread, with generous chunk of sweet butter.
Only trade off is wood has no softening: makes for sometimes uncomfortable noise level.
Huge value. We live barely 30 minutes away. I cannot imagine why we’d never been here before.
Pleasant restaurant with friendly service, ideal for dinner before a 7:30 p.m. curtain at Writers Theater, an easy five minute walk away. Be sure tell your wait person you are going to the theater.
We sat outside where it’s quieter than inside. The food was outstanding and reasonably priced as always. I had the lemon chicken piccata and my friend had the pecan crusted salmon. Started with salads and shared a brownie à la mode for dessert. Service was outstanding. We wanted to linger and were not rushed at all. Five stars-plus!
Will definitely be back. Have dinner and then take home tuna salad or chicken salad for lunch
Very accommodating. We brought the cake and sparkler for our daughter’s birthday. The server presented the lit cake to our table. Food was tasty: chicken pot pie, shrimp tacos, hummus, crab cakes. Yummy!
I’ve eaten here in a couple of occasions now. Most of the menu is very well executed. However this time, I had the Potpie. Very dry, and no liquid at all in the pie. Thought it was just a fluke, but another in our party had it and it was exactly the same way. I’ve had it before and it was great so I’m wondering if they change their menu.
Perfect place for pre-theater dinner with a “something for everyone” menu. We’ve been there many times. Unfortunately the food has not gotten better and this time, everything was just OK. Pot pie, hamburger, fish and salads were all fine, just not special in any way.
Always a pleasure. We are members at Writers Theatre and visit Meg's before every play we attend. The food is very good, the ownership very appreciative of the business theater patrons bring to them, and the service is outstanding.
Very disappointed in the salmon Was served an end piece with little meat on the fish and hard to pull the meat off. I should have sent it back But I will continue to eat there.
We had such a nice evening and the service was terrific. After dinner, we took a walk and got the chance to see an antique motorcycle show. Incredible all the way around.
