Amsterdam Barrel House
Good beer, good food, good family friendly bar. We all had a lovely time and the kids had enough on the menu to keep them satisfied. Exactly what we were looking for.
Had a great time. Little bit loud but wasn’t unbearable. Hope to go back soon!
Good pub food
Great service and atmosphere. Food was delicious! Prices were very reasonable.
There were 6 of us who had not got together for a while, 4 of whom had never dined at this Amsterdam before. We all really enjoyed ourselves at this lunch. There was a very festive, Christmassy ambience and our server, Tyler, was very helpful, efficient and friendly (great idea to have his name on the cocktail mats). One of our party is a Celiac and Tyler was very attentive to her needs. Everyone was satisfied with what they ordered but I particularly enjoyed the crispy sprouts appetizer as well as the pear and goatcheese salad.
Chicken fingers were dry so next time we will sauce them up ..all other food was good. Beer was fantastic !
The food was amaaaazing! The brisket was so tender and the baked beans were delish. The chicken schnitzel was moist and flavourful.
The portion sizes were generous. If you’re going, go hungry.
Definitely going back with friends and to try the brunch!
Loved the Steak Fest feature menu. Steaks are grilled over a hardwood fire.
I brought in friends that had never been to the Amsterdam.
Could not stop speaking highly of the efficient, friendly staff and, of course,
Good prices as well.
Two of us had a beer - very good.
Great Saturday lunch for myself and a friend I hadn't seen in 30 years. Noise level was comfortable enough to keep our conversation effortless. Easy to get to and lots of free parking available. Decor is casual leaning to the rustic/industrial look. Menu options are broad but we opted for the brunch special items and had the classic eggs benny....well prepared and great value given you get three, rather than two, poached eggs in the serving. Highlight was our waiter and sorry I have forgotten his name but he was just a joy to have serving us....personable, knowledgeable, accommodating! Have already recommended to friends and will definitely put this on my list of places to go for future reference.
I try to make a reservation for 11 AM but can only get 12 noon, when our party arrived at 12 noon the restaurant was half empty. It was a little frustrating to see The restaurant was half empty so we could have probably got the reservation that we wanted at 11 AM for a brunch. The server messed up our orders, the coffee looked like weak tea & didn’t taste well and the water smelled like
bleach. My daughters kids burger meal probably had about 10 French fries on the plate. A little disappointing. I hope the restaurant steps it up a notch or it won’t last in our neighbourhood. I forgot to mention the restaurant’s website had a brunch menu that indicated there was an egg omelette station and when we got to the restaurant they didn’t have it!! Very disappointing when we showed up with our family of 10 for brunch.
Service let us down. Four times in a row, one of our party had get up from our table and stand by the kitchen area to catch an employees attention to ask about menus, drinks, food and then desert. When food arrived, it contained multiple mistakes.
We were given typical excuses: "Server left to serve another area", "kitchen is very busy" etc., but overall, we left with the impression that it was a restaurant that wasn't well managed on that day.
I had only been to the Amsterdam Brewhouse on Harbourfront a few times for work and had never been disappointed so decided to take my family to the Barrel House on Laird (took my 13y.o. son; 40s brother; 70s parents). I had gone inside on a Saturday afternoon to ask if I should make reservations for later that evening and the host said they were fully booked. I went to Open Table and discovered they had many spots open - I made a reservation for 5:30pm. At that time the place was about half full. Service was prompt and food came to the table within 15 minutes. Fish & chips - fish was a bit overfried and dry. Had better ones at Ikea the next day. Pizza special was decent grant it that's not their bread and butter. Signature bowl needed more dressing as most of it is raw vegetables that needed to be diced smaller (try chewing on half a brussel sprout). Salmon and quinoa was good but tasted a bit bland. Place used to be Urban Grain. Tough location for a restaurant in general. For the price I would go up the street to Local Leaside.
Ugh. Terrible time at the Barrel House today. We went out of our way to have our family brunch for Thanksgiving at this spot. When we arrived the restaurant was nearly empty, but there was a party upstairs. Our table was ready quickly. Our waitress was good, but the food was EXTREMELY slow. After more than 45min, 4/7 of our party we’re served. My daughter’s breakfast was cold and had been under the warmer. Her waffle was hard. My food was lukewarm. We were starving so we started to eat. We were half done before the others were served. No one’s food seemed particularly good. It seemed they weren’t staffed appropriately. The tables around us had long waits too. In a city with tons of excellent restaurants, don’t waste your time/money here.
Tuesday night was so busy that I think they needed extra servers. It took so long to get our orders served, especially the dessert.
I accidentally booked the wrong location for our gathering. The location downtown by the lake was where I meant to reserve. They went out of their way to accommodate us. I was very appreciative.
Thank you very much!
Went to the Barrel House for a mid-week dinner. There were a lot of children and crying babies that made the atmosphere unpleasant. Our server was very good with the right balance of attentiveness. The brisket dinner was a little disappointing. It was dried out from being under a heat lamp too long and the sauce was overpoweringly sweet. This was my second visit and I doubt I will go again.
I went for a quick Sunday night dinner with my daughter and it was great! Yummy food, good service and easy dinner out! Will absolutely be back for the pulled chicken tacos an the chicken tenders!
Great place for reasonable price. Friendly atmosphere and knowledgeable stuff. Definitely come back.
We usually have a very good experience here especially with our two kids. This time I was disappointed with the food and service. The Hawaiian grill was poorly presented and tasted a little like gas, and my children’s burger was over cooked. Ambiance wise no complaints, service was a little off...had to do a bit of reminding on a few things.
The spinach and ricotta ravioli is delicious!
Great Service, Good Food and Beer!
Had a Wonderful time!
I love this place! We recently moved to the area and find the staff to be very accommodating and welcoming! They go above and beyond to please. It is always a great and satisfying dining experience in all platforms!
Thanks for another great night!
Food was delicious! I recommend the Beef Brisket, will definately visit again.
The main course and appetizers were brought at the same time. The apetizer was very later and we waited far too long for it, only to get all the food at once. I sent the mains back to keep warm, but they just put them on a shelf because when mine came back it was cold. The appetizer was chicken wings. $14.99 for SEVEN wings! It came with a sweet and sour Thai chile sauce
I had the Hawaiian plate. $27 dollars for 3 skewers, 1 beef, 1 chicken and one shrimp. The shrimp skewer included only 2 shrimp. The other two included 2 chunks each of meat. The rice was ok, and the sauce for it was labeled "orange infused soya. That sauce turned out to be identical to the wing sauce.
My wife had the brisket, which tasted quite good, what there was of it.
I found the portions extremely small.
Would I go back? Probably not, although the ambiance is very nice and the server tried hard.
Nice interesting menu items and attractive upbeat ambiance/decor. Too much salt in some items and some too spicy for those who can't eat spice. The beer taster is really fun. Our server was amazing: attentive, positive, and great with our kids. lots of choice on the kids menu too. I have many allergies, and our server was great at taking my list to the kitchen for review by the cooks: they all took care of me.
First time there. Really liked it. Good menu, tasty food and good service. Will definitely be back. Patio is great in the summer too!
Good food on the upper patio. Very friendly staff.
It was a beautiful night and sat on roof top patio. Great feel.
Food was good, I do find appetizers a bit pricey, they are almost the same as the main course. Could be a little less expensive. But overall everything was great and look forward to coming back
great like always !!!
the food was overpriced and mediocre. please stop calling that brisket. you can't reheat brisket and drown it in a sweet sticky bbq and still call it brisket. the food was also way too expensive for what it was - wonton nachos we're $15+. wow. disappointing experience and wont be coming back.
First visit, was seated in kids area, 2 TV’s there with cartoons on one. Don’t recall ever seeing that before. No ambience in this area.
Been here few times now and always leave happy. Service is attentive yet discreet and always friendly. Extensive menu from bites and comfort food dishes to something a little more sofisticated. Even kids menu offers more variety than just chicken fingers and fries. If you are into craft beer then you will enjoy the selection and it's fresh given that the brewery itself is less than a mile away :-). Plus they have wine and cocktails, including non-alcoholic options. Plenty of parking around the complex which is aother plus. Lovely place and will be coming regularly.
Nice patio; friendly and attentive staff; good food -- something for everyone and not overpriced; beer samplers let you try four of Amsterdam's brews. Good experience -- will be back.
Had the roasted Beet Salad. Nice but boring. It needs some candied pecans or something. When it was first served the chef forgot the tomatoes. Had to send it back to have it fixed. Don't think I would order that again.
We booked a table for 4 and were given a lovely table by the window....Our server was lovely, patient and efficient. The beer is awesome....a great choice for all tastes. Our food was delicious and quite unique for a lunch menu. Dessert was great too...the strawberry cake was very special!
Wonderful place will visit again. Food was very tasty, service was excellent.
The food was excellent and the service was pleasant, prompt and helpful. Lively environment and overall a good experience.
Great service but food was below average: poorly cooked and not well-designed in the fist place. I felt like most of things where precooked and not really fresh. I suppose their beer should be good since its their specialty.
! The only Amsterdam location worth visiting is the one on the harbor front only for the view and great patio location rather than that its nothing special
