Wonderful ABSOLUTELY WONDERFUL COULDN’T HAVE PICKED A BETTER PLACE ❤️
This was our sixth visit to Ampersea and we love it, the food is very good the staff is friendly and they understand the menu and the wine list. The view of the water is very nice from inside or out. When the weather is nice you can sit outside and enjoying glass of bubble or a cocktail and a meal all while watching the boats go by. Try the crab cakes they are really good. Enjoy your meal
Everything was fantastic!! Fried green tomato’s were a big hit along with the Brussel sprouts. My girlfriend was in town and craved crab cakes and Ampersea lived up to our expectations!! Crab cakes were packed with flavor with practically no filler, my filet was cooked perfectly with the au poivre sauce on top, and our server Norbert was knowledgeable about the food and our bartender Jess made awesome cocktails. Shout out to management, Lamont and kyle, for making our date night a night to remember. We will be back!!
The food was excellent, my date and I were the only 2 patrons there. Only dissatisfied point was the ladies restroom was a little unkept
Great dining experience from start to finish. Our waiter was accommodating and patient, and the views are some of the best that the city has to offer. We had the Fried Green Tomato with Lump Crab Imperial for an appetizer, and was more than impressed with the amount of crab provided. Entrees ordered were the Lobster Roll, Rockfish BLT, and Seared Scallops with Sping Pea Risotto.
Food and service were excellent, impressed our foodie friends!
My main dish was salmon which was overcooked and a very small piece for $33.
Not very impressed.
1st time going and definitely will not be the last this place is a hidden gem in Fell Point
Larger portions than expected. Great food.
Love the half and half soup. So good we got some to go and had it the next day for lunch.
We have dined here 7 or 8 times since the rebranding and every time we have very happy with the experience. The short rib was outstanding my wife had the crab cake, yes she shared forkful, as a life long Marylander it was very good. If your thinking about going stop thinking about it and book a table.
Went for restaurant week and the food was great. Definitely want to go back for a standard dinner service or happy hour. Service was really good as well. Only thing I wasn’t a fan of was the dessert.
Small, intimate space, water view. Great food and attentive servers. We were here for restaurant week and we're provided a delicious menu for a great value!
The usual great comfort food with a spectacular view of the harbor.
Went to Ampersea for an anniversary dinner on NYE- was unaware of the fixed menu until we got there. Prices on the regular menu seemed reasonable when making the reservation- $20-30 entrees. No price listed on the fixed menu when we ordered and were shocked by the $80 per person price... my husband ordered the chicken. Food was ok (veggies were undercooked)... boxed up our own leftovers which is a little strange for an $80 meal. Our reservation was at 7pm and the entire place was empty- really awkward. Nice overall ambiance and service.
I made a last minute reservation for 5 people for 8pm on a Thursday night.
We arrived at 7:55 and were told the restaurant was closed for the evening.
I guess that's all there is to say.
Went for Sunday brunch. It wasn't crowded at all- which is a plus! Had the bacon shell breakfast taco paired with the red sangria. It was fantastic. I will be back next time I am in town for sure
My lunch date was sick but I have eaten here before and like it
I thought the food was good and of course the location is spectacular. Why isn't Ampersea busier? Give it a try!
The drinks were a little lacking. They would have benefitted from a FT bartender, not just the server making the drinks.
The menu was different from what was displayed on their website so that was a bit surprising. I had the small dish plate of scallops with golden raisins and little cauliflower. It was delicious. That could have been a main dish. The brussel sprouts with bacon were okay...they could have been a bit more tender. Overall I would give it a B+.
Amazing beautiful weather day to be dining there, the food was delicious and the wait staff attentive.
I had the trout and Brussels sprouts. Both highly recommended by the server. The trout was mushy, not fresh. The Brussels sprouts were under cooked but had great flavor. Hope it was an off night.
The food was expensive and just ok. I ordered the short ribs and they were tough and on an enormous plate of fries. I would have preferred more meat and less side dish! My husband's chicken was the better dish and the Brussel sprout appetizer was nice.
Great service, even better food, and you can’t beat the view of the water! Get the scallops, and the fried cookie dough. Amazing
Visited at 2pm on a sunny August Sunday
Great location, delayed service, neither the best food not the best drink. Visit for the ambience not the service or the food.
Really loved the setting for Ampersea, and always thought it was a little weird why the ratings were so relatively poor. When we showed up with a reservation on a Sunday and there was no hostess, or table for us to be seated at, we then began to find out. Once we finally got seated, and waitstaff was identified, we finally got to order. In lieu of the tortilla chips we were given instead of the Bavarian pretzel as the menu described to accompany our crab dip, we asked for lettuce. In response, our waiter, who was quiet aloof throughout the entirety of our visit at Ampersea, physically raised an eyebrow and stared at us...rather than responding with a "yes" or inquiring, "why?" or "what type?". All the while this was happening, the table next to us was informed that there was no vodka at the entire restaurant. I was dismayed along with them! Ultimately, we got our food, which was good enough tasting, but I'm sad to report that our bellies have been upset since. I'm not sure if it's unrelated or not, but a cautionary tale of our experience nonetheless. If the service had been tightened up, I would've been happy to avoid writing a review altogether, but I'm pretty forgiving and found that this was not a great experience.
We went to scope the place for a birthday event. When entering there was no one to greet us. After a minute or so, Danny came to greet us, only to walk away to see if there was outside seating. (There we’re literally 10 people outside with 10 tables of 4). After being seated, Danny returns to take our order. Our appetizer and drinks came she never checked in. We flagged another waitress for napkins. Danny delivered our meal and again never checked in. We had to flag another waitress to get the check. Needless to say we are looking at other places. It’s unfortunate since it’s such a beautiful view.
Gorgeous returant in a wonderful waterfront setting but food is way below par . Chicken wings did not have much flavor. the pretzel crab dip also lacked flavor, pretzel is way huge and not much crab in dip . The soft shell crab sandwich was mediocre and excessively breaded
It’s a shame, we would love to return given the lovely setting and this was our second visit but overall food does not draw us back. It’s possible brunch may be better
Our server went above and beyond to accommodate our needs. Would absolutely return as the food and general service was also excellent, as is the location!
Location, location, location. And the food is very good. It was a little too sultry to eat outside, but the dining room was surrounded by glass, so you still got an intimate water-level view of Baltimore's harbor. The menu is well-curated with an emphasis on seafood. Good list of small plates, a few sandwiches (including a great softshell crab), some very good vegetarian entrees, and a few heartier dinners. Good, well-crafted cocktails. Very accommodating and knowledgeable staff. A good experience. We'll go back.
Lots of flies and the lunch server was never at our table, placed order with the hostess.
From arrival to departure we seemed to be nothing but a burden to the staff!
What a disappointment. The restaurant has a beautiful view, grab a drink and don’t stay for dinner. Portion size on restaurant week was way off base, entrees should have been appetizers. If you can’t do restaurant week well, don’t offer it at all. Entrees off the main menu were inconstant, came out cold. Manager seemed aware that kitchen was struggling. Wow Ampersea, get it together!
We ordered the coffee rub steak. It was delicious but the portion was small however the view of the harbor made it all worth it.
Visited for Saturday brunch. Outside seating and view was incredible. Staff was pleasant food was good. We had seafood omelet and basic egg/meat meal. Breakfast potatoes were great.
The drink I ordered had to be returned, the cheesecake and chocolate cake could not be eaten.
The portions of the scallops were disappointing.
The bread pudding was small but good.
We really wanted to like this place, but made the mistake of trying it for the first time at 8 pm on a rainy (outdoor dining closed) Friday during Restaurant Week. It was busy and service was screwed up. Our waitlady was personable but she was out of sight for long intervals when we needed her attention. Drinks took forever to arrive. She apologized and comp’d them, then disappeared again. Our first course (brought by a young man) arrived 10 seconds after the delayed drinks, and our bottle of wine showed up then, too. When it rains, it pours!
My friend’s salad was just okay; the greens were right out of a salad bag and needed the stems trimmed. My gazpacho was watery and overwhelmed by the taste of bell pepper. My friend ordered mussels, which always come with broth, but no bread was served until we requested it, and then it was garlic toast. My scallops were fine, served on an interesting bed of mixed vegetables. The mandatory (they were out of the alternative dessert) bread pudding was just bread pudding.
The place was lively, more bar than restaurant and a bit noisy for my taste, although it mostly cleared out by 9. Prices were fair. The wine list was thin but we found a decent white after our server waved us away from the night’s “special”. We may try Ampersea again, after the memory of this encounter fades, but it will be a weeknight and not during Restaurant Week.
Beautiful renovation and view but skip the food and overpriced wine list; maybe visit for happy hour prices only. No clue about gluten free options, mediocre salad, and strangely bright dining room. Too bad because we are locals and wanted to like it!
I loved the ambiance of the restaurant, and the view of the water is incredible. The waitstaff was very polite and courteous, and helped us order wine that fit our preference. I would DEFINITELY recommend the crab dip & soft pretzel, both were absolutely incredible. The main courses themselves were delicious (I had the crab cake), but the portions were a bit small (my friend had the scallops- it only came with two). Overall positive experience, would be great for a date or special occasion.
