Ammos Estiatorio Ratings and Reviews
I picked this place for a business lunch because it is across the street from my office and I thought it would save time. Wrong. Slowest service ever. Lunch took two hours, just for appetizer and entree. That's ridiculous. Could have gone and had a real meal at a fancy restaurant, if I had wanted to invest that much time. Total waste.
Had not been here before. Took a client there for lunch. The entire service staff from Maitre D' through the bus boys doted over us. You could tell the entire staff was fully invested in ensuring a perfect meal and proud of the food they served and how they made their guests feel. The ffod was fresh and delicious and beautifully presented. a must-dine at if in mid-town.
This venue offers a pre-theater menu which is great but you have to ask for the menu. I have visited this restaurant twice and both times I had different experiences. The first time the food was excellent, well seasoned and delicious. The second time- the food was bland (I ordered the same dishes). Also, the service can be very slow.
I like trying new restaurants and different cuisines. I took my fiancé and we tried Ammos! Thumbs up starting from the warm welcoming from the maitre D' along with our server witch he suggested the best appetizers and the whole greek fish for 2! And can't forget about the Milopita witch was the "Cherry on top of the cake) for the night!!! Must try experience overall !!!
Entered the almost empty restaurant for an early lunch reservation. I was meeting a friend who was not there yet, but they refused to seat me until my friend arrived (despite the fact that the restaurant was almost empty). A bit obnoxious. Then, after ordering, we waited almost an hour four our entrees. Overall, not a great experience.
The other night I went to dinner with some friends they were visiting let me tell you we had a memorable experience from appetizer to dessert we had feta fourno and great grilled calamari and crispy tower it was out off this world and the next stage was the entrée a combination of grilled fish and lambs chops omg you have to try this place and don't forget the apple tart I love it the waiters are friendly and the owner is even greater so far ammos is always my favorite Greek restaurant
The desk staff was officious. We had a reservation, the restaurant was 1/3 full, and they put us at a table by the kitchen. When we asked for a better table, we had to go through a whole request process. Ridiculous.
The servers were okay, but the food was sub-par. SO, not going back. There are tons of good Greek restaurants in this city, and this isn't one of them.
Food always cooked to perfection and efficient table service makes this Mediterranean restaurant a great place for lunch, breakfast or dinner. Had a great lunch starting with Greek Salad (Horiatiki) followed by fish (Lavraki) and for desert a delicious apple tart (Milopita). I've been dining at Ammos for the past years and will be returning soon for another great dining experience."
Nice restaurant with a good ambience and feel, very close to GCT, good selection of fish, generally picked from a board and charged by the lb. service was good, simple instructive and not too overbearing. They could be a little more up front on the pricing (as it's not in the menu) and the King Shrimps I thought were a little expensive at $75/lb! Otherwise a good treat, some nice Greek white wines that offset the food very well.
I really liked this place. Came back recently and ordered octopus salad and fish. The octopus had clearly been cooked and sitting around a Loooong time before we got there. It was put back on the grill to cook even more for our order, and was pretty much dessicated by the time it was served. I mentioned that to the waiter, who could not have been nicer. But then the chef sent out fish that was mostly undercooked. I don't know whether it was the B team cooking, or whether the chef got mad that someone knew the difference between overlooked and fresh cooked octopus, but the message was clear that you don't criticize the food. What bothered me is that they didn't own up to it.
All that said, the folks there are really wonderful and will try to accommodate everyone if they can. My friend had the moussaka and enjoyed it. The sides are wonderful and the greens in the salads are incredibly fresh. I will give them another try.
P.s.- I've eaten fresh cooked octopus in Naxos , Greece and other Greek islands. I know what it is supposed to taste like!
Our server was incredibly attentive . My glass water never empty and his recommendations were spot on .we shared an amazing octopus appetizer and saganaki cheese .the octopus was one of the popular dishes on the menu for good reason . We also had a fresh whole fish called lavraki , which was really testy .
We will be returning to Ammos sooner rather then later .
A friend had a Birthday Dinner here and we loved it! So we came back on ourown to enjoy this place onece again. Ammos has a warm and spaciouse atmosphere. With mellow greek music we love, as it reminds us of our many Greek vacations. The service is wonderfully attentive. And to recommend to you some of our favorites, we will say go for the grilled fish, Lamb chops and the Octapus salad. Everyone loves Greek food! its its simply delicious!!
After a very busy day, I wanted something tasty and a new place. Ammos Estiatoria far exceeded all expectations. We were immediately seated, and the friendly staff treated us like long time customers even though this was the first time either of us had been there.
Each of us had four courses - appetizer, salad, entrée and dessert. Each of my courses was exquisite - stuffed grape leaves, frouta (fruit-based salad), fish, and ice cream. My dinner companion also was extremely impressed with his selections. And after four courses, I was not stuffed - all portions were very adequate.
I would recommend this to everyone - even if Greek food is avoided. This place is not to be avoided.
Had a dinner reservation for 10 people last night in the private room at 6:30, when me and my guests arrived we were greeted and set right away, the dinner start with an excellent recommendation of Greek red wine, while the appetizers were served at the table, and I have to say it was delicious, main course didn't disappoint at all, I had the Black Sea bass with a side of lemon potatoes , perfectly cooked. Over all it was a great experience and I will be back.
