A well located restaurant with a lot of potential. Regrettably, Ammos did not live up to its potential. Our meal started with crab cakes - subpar at best. The lamb appetizer had so much fat on it, I was shocked. Barely edible. I should have trusted my gut and called dinner off at that time. We continued on to a branzino (that was good) but unseasoned and a mushy pasta that looked like spaghetti O's which we did not touch.
$200 later, I took my date to the UrbanSpaces market across the street for some pizza.
I found the service to be mediocre and food good but not great, but was really offended by our waiter’s upselling us to a very expensive bottle of Greek wine that was pretty crappy and the restaurant’s absurd and somewhat deceptive pricing of its fish by the pound, which let to quite a shock when each of us paid $75 - 95 per person just for our entree. I will never go back.
It was just okay. Nothing special
I have been to Ammos on several occasions and always have the best time.the food, service, ambiance are paired together perfectly for an incredible New Yorker city dining experience,I highly recommend this restaurant
Very early dinner! But everything was perfect! As we started from the door till the end of our meal! Service and food just great! Love the decor and the ambiance! Very notable signature cocktail list! Loved the ginger margarita.☺️
Three of us had a wonderful meal and dining experience on Saturday evening. The Octopodi appetizer was excellent, as were the others. Two of our party had snapper and the third had sea bass. All three entrees were cooked to perfection. The service was quite good and friendly. All in all a very enjoyable evening that we look forward to repeating! Well done!
Food was very good but the dishes were very pricey for what was served.
Loved it thank you. The staff was great and very attentive.
Great fixed price Valentines menu.
Amazing experience as always. Exceptional service, ambience and food!
Great restaurant and top among Greek!! Food was simply amazing and delicious. Especially fish and desert.
Ammos Estiatorio is always a solid choice. The food is consistently good, servers and knowledgeable and professional.
Very good food and service, can be a bit noisy, but so are most midtown upscale restaurants.
Tasted the restaurant week menu! Very good choices ! Food was cooked great and we enjoyed evrything! Loved the greek music that was playing all night long! Service was great!
Great food and service! Its undeniable that Ammo's is simply the Best , My date and I cant wait for our next visit we really enjoyed ourselves.
another fabulous meal,I will be back
Excellent meal and ambiance. Convenient location next to Grand Central. The dinner was made special but the excellent service. Our waiter was attentive, knowledgeable, and receptive. Thank you!
Had lunch at this terrific place!the grilled octopus was fantastic! The service was on spot even though they are incredible busy! This is a must visit restaurant! Ammos is the best Greek seafood restaurant! Love the ambiance food and service! Will be back for sure
So I decided to give this place a try because it's restaurant week.
1. We checked out the wine list and asked to try a wine-she looked at us and said "okaaay but I wouldn't recommend it" we ended it trying it and thought it was fine but it was a small bottle so we ended up going with another one thats a normal size bottle
Got the meatballs-luke warm but good
Tzaziki-tasteless tasted liked yogurt without any flavor
3. Got the catch of the day- tasted overcooked and frozen. Too many flavors all rolled in to one and definetely not a way to promote your restaurant.
4. Dessert- just okay. Nothing mind blowing
5. Waitress was constantly standing right next to us waiting for us to choose something, and before we even asked for a check it was already at our table.
Overall, very disappointed because I expected much more from this place. I figured the location and ambiance ment the place would be amazing. Definetely not and won't be returning.
For the money we spend I could have made something MUCH better at home!!
this was truly a horrid experience. first the meatball app (forget the Greek name) was cold. send back and it was hot. but it was chewy and tasteless! and then the main - salmon. raw, cold and tasteless. sent back and changed to the chicken. that was overcooked, dry and tasteless. everyone at the table at a similar experience as we all voted never to return!! stay away... far away! oh, and the prices - PRICEY!
stay far far away. food was all horrible. and for that pleasure it was expensive.
Food was good and its ingredients wholesome. However we ordered from the prix fixe menu, and the food was lukewarm and tasted as though they had been made in advance and simply kept warm in the kitchen. NOT freshly prepared. The service was ok when we got it but most of the time our waiter seemed too busy to come by our table. The last time we ate here was more than 10 years ago. I recall everything being really excellent and exceptional back then. Too bad the quality slipped a little.
The food and service were extraordinary!
VERY LOUD. Overcame everything else, couldn't hear or think.
A very noisy restaurant with music, groups, TV and a bar
The service was average and the food cold
Food was really fantastic. Daily Fish was a special highlight, off the Restaurant Week menu. Assyrtiko was delicious and a perfect pairing. Great atmosphere, quick and prompt service.
The food is fresh and perfectly prepared. Portions are generous and the staff is attentive. This restaurant is one of the best in Manhattan for Greek/Mediterranean seafood. The ambiance is very pleasant and, although it is crowded and noisy at peak times, you can have a normal conversation without raising your voice.
great whole fish selections. We shared the Mediterranean fish with a few side orders.
The service was excellent and included a well informed waiter, prompt but not overbearing attention, and friendliness. The squid and dover sole were moist, tasty and fresh. Overall, a wonderful dining experience that will bring me back.
Not the usual restaurants you find in Astoria, more like a fine dining with top notch service.
One of the kind experience. Shrimp kataifi was exceptional as it was the crunchy avocado salad.
