***** SEAFOOD GREEK RESTAURANT ***** Located in the Heart of Midtown, steps away from Grand Central Terminal. Ammos provides upscale, authentic cuisine from various regions of Greece. Ammos Estiatorio Ratings and Reviews
The lamb chops were medium cooked as I asked for, the reduction was of an excellent taste, but not so over powering as to mask the taste of lamb. The combination of vegetables were of good quality and well presented. The Grecian wine was also excellent. The service was well performed and you could see that the owner was proud of his restaurant.
The service was quick and efficient, as you'd expect. I feel like Ammos is a great value, as the lunch prix-fixe is under $33 with very reasonable portions.
The interior and atmosphere was good. Wine selection was nice. Food is great with fresh fish selection.
I have not been to Ammos Estiatoro for over one year as I was very disappointed during my last visits. However, a business colleague worked nearby so I thought I would give the restaurant another shot.
Although my colleague enjoyed his octopus appetizer, the five spreads we purchased where shockingly tasteless. The lentil soup I purchased was adequate at best.
However, it took over 35 minutes after our appetizer was served and the intervention of a manager (after we threatened to leave) to get our main course (the restaurant was not even particularly crowded while we were there). Because we were running so late, we both had to wolf down our main courses — him a branzino and me a Greek salad. My Greek salad with chicken was remarkably tasteless and drowned in oil.
The cost of our meal was extravagant, particularly given the poor quality of the food. Despite the horrible service, we barely received an apology.
