Ammos Estiatorio Ratings and Reviews
Had lunch at this terrific place!the grilled octopus was fantastic! The service was on spot even though they are incredible busy! This is a must visit restaurant! Ammos is the best Greek seafood restaurant! Love the ambiance food and service! Will be back for sure
So I decided to give this place a try because it's restaurant week.
1. We checked out the wine list and asked to try a wine-she looked at us and said "okaaay but I wouldn't recommend it" we ended it trying it and thought it was fine but it was a small bottle so we ended up going with another one thats a normal size bottle
Got the meatballs-luke warm but good
Tzaziki-tasteless tasted liked yogurt without any flavor
3. Got the catch of the day- tasted overcooked and frozen. Too many flavors all rolled in to one and definetely not a way to promote your restaurant.
4. Dessert- just okay. Nothing mind blowing
5. Waitress was constantly standing right next to us waiting for us to choose something, and before we even asked for a check it was already at our table.
Overall, very disappointed because I expected much more from this place. I figured the location and ambiance ment the place would be amazing. Definetely not and won't be returning.
For the money we spend I could have made something MUCH better at home!!
this was truly a horrid experience. first the meatball app (forget the Greek name) was cold. send back and it was hot. but it was chewy and tasteless! and then the main - salmon. raw, cold and tasteless. sent back and changed to the chicken. that was overcooked, dry and tasteless. everyone at the table at a similar experience as we all voted never to return!! stay away... far away! oh, and the prices - PRICEY!
stay far far away. food was all horrible. and for that pleasure it was expensive.
Food was good and its ingredients wholesome. However we ordered from the prix fixe menu, and the food was lukewarm and tasted as though they had been made in advance and simply kept warm in the kitchen. NOT freshly prepared. The service was ok when we got it but most of the time our waiter seemed too busy to come by our table. The last time we ate here was more than 10 years ago. I recall everything being really excellent and exceptional back then. Too bad the quality slipped a little.
The food is fresh and perfectly prepared. Portions are generous and the staff is attentive. This restaurant is one of the best in Manhattan for Greek/Mediterranean seafood. The ambiance is very pleasant and, although it is crowded and noisy at peak times, you can have a normal conversation without raising your voice.
ambiance was awesome. quiet yet not stuffy and the young lady greeting you knew me by name without ever meeting me. the staff was very versed on what to try both in wines and fish. food was excellent and i have to say the price was so reasonable for what you get. definitely will be going back to this place! kudos!
Saturday Pre-show dinner for 3.. promptly seated upon arrival. The restaurant was not too busy and we got a nice corner table away from the bar and front door. Complimentary olives & bread arrived shortly after seating. Kostas gave us good service and was helpful to allow us plenty of time to order, enjoy our dinner and leave on time for our concert. Appetizers and entrees were very good, and all were moderately priced for NYC. Cocktails + wine + apps + entrees + tip = $240
I cannot recommend this restaurant. The food was not very good. The hot appetizer arrived cold in the middle. The main course was only fair, not all that well flavored, and not as hot as I would have preferred. My companion's lamb was tough and not very well seasoned. I would not return.
I remember eating here many years ago and remember that it was good. What a difference this time. The octopus was too soft and tasteless, the Greek salad was terrible, because the tomatoes were mushy and watery. The spinach philo came cold, I sent it back . When it came back it was a better choice of the three, at least it had taste.
We didn't want to try anything else, as we were going to the theatre and didn't have enough time. We also didn't trust that other choices would be any better. The waiter was unavailable when needed , even though the restaurant was mostly empty. But he did come up few times to find out how the food was , but mostly was interested in us ordering more wine and food. When I told him about the octopus , he just shrugged and didn't offer to replace it with anything else. The room was very cozy and the decor was tasteful.. I was wondering why the place was empty ... Now I know why, mediocre food and mediocre service. Waste of money. Would not come back.
