Amilinda Ratings and Reviews
I have been to Amilinda several times and each time have tried something new. I've not been disappointed. This time I had the Merguez Lamb Meatballs. They were full of flavor and covered in a delicious sauce/gravy of which I inhaled every bit. My dining partner had the vegetarian option, which that evening included butternut squash and zucchini but in a way that he'd never tasted or seen before. There was not a scrap left on his plate, so I'm assuming he enjoyed his as much as I did mine. I LOVE that the food is locally sourced and that you feel welcome and cozy amid the downtown of Milwaukee. Orry & Gregory have hit the spot with Amilinda.
We had a great meal at Amilinda, the staff was very friendly, the food was delicious and the wine was perfect. Highly recommend getting the Pork. The lamb pot pie was a great appetizer too. The head chef stopped by to see how dinner was, always a sign of a great chef.
The Portuguese food was very authentic. Cocktails were unique and refreshing. We ordered a Portuguese red wine labeled “Pavao” which turned out to be an excellent complement to the meal.
The service was warm & hospitable making it an enjoyable evening.
This is definitely a restaurant to visit again.
After this meal, I feel that this may very well be one of the top five restaurants in Milwaukee.
We started with Jamón Ibérico--Lemon Verbena--Extra Virgin Olive Oil--Radish Salad. Jamon is a mainstay of every Spanish and/or tapas restaurant. It is a prosciutto-like product, only better. The thing that made this one stand out was the preparation. Pure bliss and beautiful to boot.
Next up was the Caldo Verde - this was one of the most delicious things I've ever tasted in a soup. It's a cream soup made with kale and linguisa, which is a slightly spicy Portuguese sausage. It was hearty and smokey and most of all roll-your-eyes-back delicious. Simply amazing.
Next up, Carcamusa--Braised Pork Shoulder--Piquillo Pepper Confit--Fingerling Potatoes. It was not in the description, but also in this dish was a piece of what tasted like chorizo sausage. Once again, we were floored by this dish.
Another main was Roasted Za'atar Spanish Paprika Chicken--Parsnip Purée--Roasted Brussels Sprouts--Pickled Red Onions. This was also amazing. I did feel the chicken was just a tad dry, but overall a delicious dish.
We don't normally order dessert but on this evening we ordered two. One was drop the mic on the floor and walk off fantastic. It was a carrot cake muffin with ice cream. I've never tasted its equal. Simply six-star delicious. INSANE!
Once again we observed executive chef Gregory Leon working on each dish in the tiny kitchen. He stopped by our table and I was pleased to tell him just how good his work is. One at our table stated "you can taste the heart at the place." Service was terrific.
This place deserves 5 full stars. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED
From the moment one walks in the red door of this charming place you know you're in someplace special. There's great smells wafting in the air, lively hum of the patrons and gorgeous food coming out of the open kitchen. I love the ambience and lighting anddecor, it's very personal and intimate. You feel like you're in the Leon's house! I have been to Amilinda about 6 or 7 times and have always left very satisfied with a warm comfortable glow...the food, the wine, the music, the friendliness and the food, the food, the food!
Chef Greg makes simple ingredients sing with wonderful and creative combinations of ingredients and spices. There's is attention to detail- from the bread and butter, served with vegetable spread, to the little cookies at the finish. The night we dined there were complimentary babka's, Greg's grandmother's recipe, as a little gift for Hanukka, a nice treat for breakfast!
Amilinda dining is an outstanding addition to Milwaukee ‘s food scene. Chef Gregory prepares his original menu as an artist. The friendly knowledgeable wait staff bring across a casual classiness - Milwaukee style - that makes the whole experience delicious. I’ve told my friends they will love Amilinda!
Overall our experience was great. The server was so kind and food delicious. Loved that they gave us a a sweet treat at the end really made it feel extra special. These small touches are what set you a prat from the rest. The only criticism I have is that it took a very long time to get our food and the restaurant was not even half full. We had to ask about it due to us having a show to go to. The reservation was 1.5 hrs before our show stareted, so it should’ve been more than enough time. We did need to rush at the end.
We Love Amilinda! This gem of a restaurant downtown Milwaukee always offer well crafted, balanced and very tasty creations. Owner / Chef Gregory Leon infuses his art in every plate and uses only the best quality ingredients. The Spanish / Portuguese influences is present in the whole menu and entering in this venue is like being transported to a small food place in Lisbon or Madrid!
The service is genuinely friendly and attentive and the wine list very interesting.
We always leave happy and we always want to go back to Amilinda again! Thank you Greg, Thank you Orry! Happy Holidays!

I went to Amalinda on a Friday night for date night. We had a wonderful time, the food was amazing and the service was incredible. It was a little pricey but everything was delicious so I think it was worth it. I would feinitely reccomend to a friend who’s looking for a cozy, authentic place for dinner!
Very unique food and cocktail menu! I love trying new foods and if you’re like me, this is perfect for you. Their menu changes often and if you blink you’ll miss the location. Our server, Matty, was fantastic with just the right amount of attention paid to our table. They even sent us away with a mini-cake for each, nice touch!
This was our 2nd time at Amilinda (after a recent trip to Portugal) and we were very surprised of how both the food and service declined. We started with the Smoked Trout salad and settled on the Tuna Marmitako entrees. Everything was extremely bland and we even had to ask the server for some salt! Thank goodness for 1/2 off a bottle wine night that somewhat redeemed the night.
Another fabulous meal. We started with a vegetarian meal as an appetizer and then each had a chicken, pork and steak meal. Flavors, sauce and sides all complimented each other perfectly.
Hats off to the owners who take pride in what they do while soliciting customer feedback.
We had a lovely time at Amilinda. My friend and I enjoyed sitting at the bar and watching the kitchen activity. Cocktails were truly craft. We went with the wait staff's recommendation and had the lamb shank. Delectable. Also had the smoked trout salad and shared two luscious desserts.
My wife and I drove up to Milwaukee for our wedding anniversary so we wanted to eat somewhere with an original menu that used fresh local ingredients so we went with Amilinda. We both agreed that this was one of the best meals we have ever had. This place is nothing short of amazing. The menu is small and is constantly changing so you know that the ingredients used are fresh and the dishes are executed perfectly. Everything we had was perfect from the cheese board to the lamb as well as their life changing cocktails. These guys are doing something special in that town and I would highly recommend Amilinda to anyone looking for an amazing dining experience. The servers know the menu and are great at describing the dishes and drinks. What a great place! I can't wait to go back.
Our group of 9 was simply delighted with everything about this small Portuguese place. We really appreciated the very interesting menu choices and everyone loved the food. We shared bottles of Spanish bubbly...some of us had the bacalhau, which was great on this blustery night. the steak was very good, too. We had a chance to chat with the fascinating and friendly chef-owner through the opening in the wall between the kitchen and the foyer - and learned a lot. I highly recommend this place.
We always come to Amilinda for birthday celebrations! We appreciate Chef Greg Leon's mastery and the friendly vibe of the wait staff. Strong commitment to local ingredients is evident in the quality. There is always something new to savor and the wine list is excellent. Cheers!
It’s a very small restaurant and basic atmosphere—meaning not ornate but the food is so delicious. My husband had the smoked trout salad—which he wouldn’t share. I had the cider roasted chicken and my husband had the pork steak for the main. Nice sized portions and so good.
I have been to Amilinda a number of times and have never left hungry or unhappy with the meal I ate. I am not a very adventurous eater and their menu changes seasonally which means I have to constantly find something new to try. I strongly recommend trying Amilinda!
We were thoroughly impressed by our dinner at Amilinda. The food was phenomenal and the drinks were delicious -- what a gem on Wisconsin Ave!
They even brought out a glass of champagne for each of us when they found out we just got married -- it was so thoughtful, and it reflects on how genuine and kind our waiter was all night. Will definitely be back!
