Five of us ate an early dinner here on the last day of a conference. We had a nice table in the back and were able to relax and converse, even as the restaurant gradually filled with hip couples and parties and the background noise level increased. Our server was attentive, friendly, and helpful, checking on gluten-free options and answering lots of wine and ingredient-related questions. The food was delicious throughout the menu-- cheeseboard, empanadas, heirloom tomato salad for starters; lamb merguez sausage, sea bass, hanger steak for entrees. We all felt lucky to have opted for this spot as visitors to the city and the foodies among us were well-satisfied.
My first time at this restaurant and I was not disappointed. The food was excellent and the service was great! I plan on visiting again in the near future!
Every dish is so thought out with crunchy, bitter, savory, rich, acidic, sweet; it's a flavor party in your mouth. You also need a spoon because there is this broth that forms at the bottom of each main that can only be described as awesome sauce. Service is amazing. The entire staff is amazing.
Food was delicious and Service was Outstanding-
We will be back
First time at Amilinda but won't be my last. I had heard good things about the food but was pleasantly surprised. The wine list was great - particularly if you like Spanish or Portuguese wine
one of our favorite spots to eat out in Milwaukee. It's the perfect size with an excellent small, but broad, menu. Milwaukee is lucky to have Chef Greg Leon in our midst.
This place is always amazing-the chef really does a good job of making you feel right at home. The menu is unique & always inspiring! Best gem in Milwaukee-find the red door!
For anyone who likes Iberian (Spanish/Portuguese) food or wine, this place is a rare gem. Thoughtfully chosen small rotating menu highlights what Chef Greg is all about, fresher than fresh ingredients prepared with just enough heat and spice to coax all the natural flavors to the foreground. His husband, Orry has put just as much care into the unique and extensive wine list. Be sure to ask him or your server for recommendations and/or a taste. You will come away learning something new. The environment is intimate and friendly, great date spot or for larger gatherings. Sit at the chef’s bar for an inside glimpse of the kitchen at work and the chance for a chat with Chef Greg. If I lived closer, this would be my regular hang out.
I have been looking forward to trying this place out after seeing all the rave reviews from my friends on FB. I am a world traveler and foodie. I have been to Portugal, Spain, France, England, Austria and many other countries in Europe and Asian. I am no stranger to diverse foods.
This was a very disappointing experience. The appetizer was ok and nothing to write home about. The Serrano ham and melons does not take a genius to make but better quility ingredients will make it stand out . The entree was lukewarm and the flavors was very blend (and no it’s not because I am use to over sauced or over flavored American food. I have dine all over the world and have been to many of the top restaurants of the world). The peach tart dessert was room temperature with a scoop of ice-cream. If the dessert was warmer it would have created a better contrast with the ice cream.
One good thing abt the dinner is the good service from the waitress. She was open to our feedback and tried to make the best out of the situation.
Had a delightful experience at Amilinda. Our waitress, Andrea was exceptional. She let us sample wines so we could make a decision. For starters we were served a basket of rolls and sliced rye bread. The Four of us each tried something different. I had the vegetarian entree—mashed potatoes topped with spinach, Swiss chard, toasted quinoa that was out of this world. All of the flavors melded together to make a fabulous dish. The others ordered the pork chop dinner, the sea bass and the roasted chicken. We all agreed that this is a place to visit again. We complimented the chef as we left. A perfect evening.
It was our first time at Amilinda and we were thoroughly impressed. We had both appetizers and main courses and enjoyed every bite. The chef created dishes with very distinct flavors and textures that we've not experienced in other restaurants. Often times vegetarian options leave you wanting, but not here. The vegetarian dish he created was amazing. The wait staff was very friendly and attentive without being intrusive. There is no doubt we'll be going back.
Limited options with Creative and tasty food, great service too.
The duck sausages were very good and flavorful. Tuesdays are always half off all bottles of wine and we enjoyed the sauvignon blanc. I tasted the smoked nectarines on my friend's pork chops and they were delicious. The peach tart-like dessert was very tasty and beautifully presented. I always enjoy Amilinda!
Food took a long time to arrive. My hanger steak was very good. My husband's pork chop not so great. Dessert and wine were both good.
Second visit. First time every course was SALTY. We decided to try this again before an event at the PAC. The food was BLAND & UNDER SEASONED. Drinks were Meh. Overall $$ and unsatisfying. Unfortunately, we won’t be back.
Hot and stuffy in the restaurant. Bad drinks. Menu wasn’t compelling enough for us to stay.
Overall good food, but only few item to select. Excellent wine/cocktails on Tuesday. Very good service. Need some salads on menu
This is a top tier restaurant with a relaxed, casual atmosphere. Fantastic, creative dishes with a wonderful wine list. Our "go to" place for special occasions and for just a fun night out. Super service always. Never been disappointed.
We were in town for a show at the Pabst. Amilinda was a short walk, and the experience couldn't have been better! Great food with a cozy, comfortable ambience!
The bohemian Portuguese inspired motif is very festive and romantic. The food pairs unique
and flavorful combinations and the service warm and attentive.
Had a fantastic experience at Amilinda! 1/2 price bottles of wine on Tuesdays lured us in and I'm glad it did. Wine list was interesting and our server was knowledgeable and let us sample a few before we decided.
The recommended cod appetizer was absolutely incredible. Bacalhau de vovo, a smoked salt cod spread over fresh molasses rye bread. NEVER imagined being so impressed by cod... It was truly a culinary experience.
Our main courses were also fantastic. The seared hangar steak was my favorite. The milho fritto wedges were so good.
Service throughout was excellent. Server was friendly and helpful. Host took a picture for us and offered to close the curtains to block the wind from the door.
Hope to be back soon!
Spanish food even down to the slow pace. Great food but you will have to wait for it. Beautiful presentation and unusual preparation
Ambiance was nice. They stuck to the theme of Spanish/Portuguese food including the wine menu and drink menu which was nice. I was so disappointed they ran out of scallops right before I ordered. The pork chop I had instead was a little dry. I tried the monkfish that my husband had and that was delicious including the unusual, but tasty, pepper medley that came with it. I would definitely recommend the restaurant to others, just noting the menus is somewhat limited to check the website to make sure it is in keeping with your interests.
Took some friends here who were in town, I had heard great things! We all enjoyed it. My friend and I both got the hanger steak and her husband got the monkfish and loved it. We also enjoyed some wonderful champagnes. Would definitely recommend!
We just recently heard about this little gem of a restaurant and are so glad we did. It’s a quaint casual place on Wisconsin Ave. The menu isn’t huge, but it has enough selections to satisfy. Sometimes I think that’s even better, less trouble deciding what to choose. The cheese board and asparagus Pate were delicious. We had the pork chop, scallops and chicken for entrees. All were delicious and had a very nice Mediterranean spin. Our group was there on a Wednesday night, and received very good service. I’d like to visit again on a weekend and see how it compares to the weekday, and I’m looking forward to that!
For the price, this was the best meal I’ve had in a long time. For my wife and I who use a few occasions a year to splurge on a great meal, this was perfect.
My favorite restaurant in MKE - great food, lovely service, and good vibe. There is always something new to try. Ask for help with the wine selection. They pour most everything by the glass.
Really great spot with a menu that changes frequently, so there’s always something new and exciting to try! Great wine list, great desserts. Perfect for a date or a night out with friends. I love that it is not small plates or tapas! Refreshing to just order a regular meal.
Delicious food, great ambience with fabulous artwork on the walls, and great sangria too!
The food was excellent. Server was knowledgeable and just friendly enough. Owner stopped by for a brief chat. An excellent meal. Only blemish was the Motown soundtrack. Don't get me wrong; love Motown... grew up on it. But, although not too loud, it just seemed out of character. That said, lovely meal. Will come back next time we're in town.
Run, don't walk to Amilinda for what many consider Milwaukee's most creative and well-executed International cuisine. The preparations are always fresh, interesting, and lively. The small menu is kept that way so that everything comes out as planned, with terrific focus from chef Gregory Leon. The meats are locally sourced, so you won't find better pork chops or a superior hanger steak anywhere.
This place is like GOLD. The chef is hands on and in full view and does amazing things with food!
The food was creative and nicely presented. The service was competent. There were, however, several things which made the overall experience go sideways. First, upon entering the restaurant my native Spanish speaking wife was offended by a vulgar Spanish word on the Happy April message board behind the bar--not something she wanted to read anywhere, never mind at a restaurant for a date night dinner. Next, the dressings on the salads seemed, to our palates, too brash--perhaps the vinegar was too strong. Third, few could pass by my chair without bumping it--sort of like being on a airplane with the kid behind you randomly kicking your seat. Had the message board not been offensive and our table been positioned out of the traffic flow, I suspect we would want to go back.
Food was excellent! Would come here again! Thank you so much!
Excellent Food! My husband and I love to go here! Fresh Food and excellent staff.
Awesome. Food, wine and service were excellent. A true neighborhood find.
This was our third time back at Amilinda, and once again did not disappoint! The ambiance transports you to Spain and the food is delicious. The entree options have been different with each trip back, and have been fantastic thanks very time! And don’t get me started on dessert, just SOO good.
I always love dining at Amilinda. It was a cold night and we had a front table. We asked if their was a way to secure the door and the server moved us but stayed with us as our server. It was more than we asked for and her customer service remained superb. I truly love the food, service and think the owner is wonderful!
Original decor and creative menu, however limited options available: 1 chicken, 1 beef, etc so definitely wish there was more. We felt like we were in another country. Near theatre area and walkable. Very small place but would return.
