We have been going to this restaurant for years, both in its old location and now in downtown Rockville, and we have always enjoyed the food and wine and appreciated the fact that we didn't have to go into DC to get a good meal. Thus in planning to meet up with friends this past Sunday evening, we had no hesitation in suggesting Amici Miei. But the food was so bad that we were really embarrassed. I don't know if they have a different chef on Sundays or what, but what we ate was simply unrecognizable. I had braised duck that was overcooked, full of small bones, and smothered in tasteless gloppy sauce. My husband had pasta with seafood that was rubbery and also smothered in some sort of irrelevant sauce. Our friends had fish and did not seem very pleased with it, though they were too polite to say so. Our waiter was polite and helpful but too overworked to be very attentive, as he also was also serving as bartender and had only one busperson to assist him. Perhaps the ownership has changed hands? Something is off--and the prices are, if anything, higher than ever. Very disappointed!!!
Excellent food. The wait staff was really good. I will definitely go back again.
This is a neighborhood gem!! Truly authentic and delicious Italian food. Easy parking in a little lot exclusively for this and a couple other restaurants.
Wonderful service, too!!!
This is a consistently delightful neighborhood Italian restaurant. All the staff members are welcoming and helpful.
Delicious food, friendly staff, warm ambiance and great location
Always a pleasure! Family friendly.
The food is good and the service is friendly. We've been so many times they know us, and they could tell you exactly what I'm going to order. They have many wonderful menu items and specials that my husband and son are always trying, but I keep going back for the grilled salmon with salmoriglio sauce, which is always made to perfection. I think I've tried grilled salmon in every restaurant I've been to, but nobody makes it like Amici Miei!
This was a wine dinner—-multiple courses each paired with a wine from the Veneto-Friuli region of Italy. Each course was a gem. Flavorful but subtle. The wines were well matched and each was distinctive. Don’t miss the next one! Meanwhile enjoy everyday dining at Amici Miei in Rockville.
I am a pescatarian. Not a lot of choices. I had already eaten salmon and trout that week.
Excellent food and service. Good value. Nice ambiance
Great meal for our last day in BA
I think the food is overpriced.
Having returned from Italy, our standards are fairly high, but this does not account for the inconsistency of the pasta -- some pieces still hard and raw, others 'al dente' and others almost mushy. It seems like the chef either used an inadequate quantity of water or failed to stir the pasta after it went into the water. The sauce was tasty, but hard to enjoy with the crunch of the pasta. My husband reports that his gnocchi were good and if we had all ordered that dish, we'd probably give a higher score. The ricotta cake with honey was tasty but nothing special. The Prosecco was sweeter than I like; the Montepulciano d'Abruzzo, a red, was good.
We visited Amici Miei for the first time on Mother's Day. My wife and I both ordered pasta dishes which were excellent. Our daughters ordered pizza and pasta, which they both liked as well. The restaurant had a nice crowd but wasn't outrageously busy, yet we waited almost 10 minutes for someone to come to our table once we sat down and had to ask several times for things like a dessert menu and finally our check. We'll probably give it one more try since the food was so good, but hopefully the service will be better otherwise it will be our last visit.
Although we made a reservation late on Mother's Day, we were treated like honored guests. The patrone put my husband's dinner under the warming lights while he went to feed the meter--very thoughtful. All the food was delicious, the variety was wide, and the wine recommendation spot-on. We will return.
Delicious meal. The place was nearly empty when we arrived at 9:30. Quiet!. Service was attentive and friendly. Felt the prices were al little high compared to most Italian restaurants nearby as the salads were al-a-carte. Also, ordered a pasta dish without the shrimp but were still charged the full price. Thought it should have been closer to the price of the other pasta dishes on the menu. Again, delicious meal!
Everything was perfect again. Whenever we have visitors staying with us their first restaurant choice is alway Amici’s.
They have always been outstanding both at their current location and their previous one. I have organized groups from work at their restaurant and they have been efficient at handling such arrangements and accommodating special needs of certain patrons. Roberto is the best—Kent Smith
We both had the salmon tartare. We always get that dish when it’s available. Sumptuous, fresh, rich, crunchy in a delightful green sauce. The squid ink pasta with seafood was delicious with lots of shrimp and scallops. My wife enjoyed the braised duck with a lovely anise scent. Service was attentive but unobtrusive.
Restaurant normally not open during weekend lunch hours was open on the special day I reserved in Open table bec of a hosted party they had that day. The server was excellent! He recommended some dishes he thought we’d like which we did. We started with calamari which was the best we ever tasted! It was lightly battered and tender inside. You can tell it was fresh!!!! We had the flat bread, Pane Guttiau, sampled the 3 spreads. For lunch, we had the veal scaloopine, Passover gnocchi, Fish of the day fillet Branzino, and grilled lamb steak. All dishes were flavorful and cooked to perfection. For dessert, they served ice cream with a candle for the birthday girl, and the rest of us ordered Tiramisu, and Saffron cake. The Manager came to our table a few times to check on us. It was a most enjoyable experience!!!!
Friendly "neighborhood type of place Roberto and staff make everyone feel welcome
This was our 2nd visit and the food was good. We went on Easter and had the lamb special. The restaurant was not crowded and our server Matt was excellent. We will be back.
Very attentive service. Wide menu selection. Food was quite good.
Great service and great food :)
Loved it! Whenever we have company visiting we always bring them to your restaurant. Our company always loves the food.
The staff and the food is amazing! One of our favorite Italian places.
Always an excellent choice. The owner, Roberto, and his staff are always welcoming and, just as important, knowledgeable and helpful, with quiet, unobtrusive service. The food is really good, especially the Sardinian specialties. A place you can keep coming back to again and again for a satisfying experience. And - a plus is that you can have a conversation with loud music drowning out your voice, and without the constant interruption of a waiter asking if 'everything is all right?" Trust me, I'd let you know if it wasn't, so don't interrupt my conversation to ask me. Thank you, Roberto, for good training of staff.
Excellent as usual!
Excellant food, selection and service. Wine choices are excellant
Excellent food and service
Delicious food and excellent service. Enjoyed the experience.
This restaurant is excellent! Not need to drive to D.C for Italian food anymore.
The staff were friendly, attentive & efficient and the food was delicious!
With our bottle of Vermentino, we had the gnocchi w/ porcini & shrimp , and the monk fish wrapped in prosciutto...it was just scrumptious!!!
Looking forward to our next visit. It's a wonderful & charming place.
Excellent... authentic Italian food.
Amici Miei was a favorite of ours when it was in its earlier location. Its move to downtown Rockville has reduced its size considerably, shifted the emphasis in its menu to pizza, and elevated its prices. The food has not correspondingly improved - while the pasta was good as always, the Bolognese sauce was lackluster, and the lamb steak was very tough indeed. It is not totally fair to compare ambiance, as there was a wine tasting going on at the end of our meal, but prior to that beginning - the restaurant felt cramped and noisy. We were, quite frankly, disappointed that a neighborhood favorite had lost its attraction.
Portions small, food very average at best. Bread terribly salty. Poor wine options.
We had the buffet, and we enjoyed it. I think I'll order a special meal off the menu next time. The wine and dessert menus were extensive, and I thoroughly enjoyed the cappuccino I ordered. I don't recall his name, but I appreciated how hospitable our waiter was. He made sure our parking ticket was validated. I enjoyed listening to the staff speak to each other in Italian.
