Américas River Oaks
The wife and I decided to try America's for the first time on Valentine's day. We made reservations 2-3 days in advance so the earliest option that was available was 9:00pm. We figured we would be done by 10:30 at the latest. As we arrived, obviously the place was packed, but we were seated within 15 minutes.
Long story short...It took 15 minutes for the waiter to make his first round to the table. By then we were ready to order so we did (appetizer, entree, and desert). Appetizer arrived in 30 minutes, the entree another 30 minutes, and desert at 11:00pm (which we asked for the bill right away and still took 15 minutes). Food was absolutely tasteless, except for the mediocre tres leches. Waiter gave us literally a handful of gift cards ($20 off when u spend $80 or more on your NEXT visit). Seemed sarcastic. Either way, the restaurant was clearly not staffed appropriately and the food alone was hard to eat. Beautiful ambiance though.
It was a great dinning experience. The steak was the best we have ever eaten and the service was excellent.
Excellent service! I value service and your staff provided it.
Setting was warm and romantic. service was fast and efficient. food was absolutely AMAZING! the tres leches at Americás was to die for! would definitely take my girl out here again.
Food OK, but service was very poor. Check the staff for drugs.
A place as exclusive as America’s...you order a steak...you would expect a steak knife. Instead I’m having to ask for one and wait while I stare at my food knowing its getting cold. Then I hear the person sitting next to me experiencing the same thing.
Poor and inattentive service. This was supposed to be romantic Valentine's evening, but we spent most of the time trying to get the attention of our waiter... Overpriced "special and only option" menu with hefty up-charges of $10 - $15 for select items.. Really!!??!!
Always great ambiance and customer service. Love the added touch with the plantain chips.
Americas Restaurant is always a great choice for date night!
Americas has exquisite food and wonderful service!
Excellent fish selections !!!! We will come back for sure.
The ambiance has come down at new location ..... was top notch when on Post Oak.
We love this place! It is usually our go to place to celebrate our friends' birthdays.
Waiter rushing us to order...awful service...food great as always
We took clients from out of town and tried three appetizers along with steaks. They loved it. Of course we had tres leches and another dessert for the table. It was great!
Americas has always been one of our favorite restaurants, we’ve never had lunch so we decided to bring our son for his birthday. We had Jesus as our waiter who was polite and very knowledgeable of the menu. My wife had the pollo emcamisado and I had the lomo which were both perfect as expected. Definitely a great experience everything we come to dine at this restaurant.
Very well decorated restaurant with a decent menu and good quality food. Some portions were small and a bit pricy but overall good.
Catching up with a dear friend.
Birthday for my sister.
It was a terrible experience. Two hour meal, steak was not prepared at the right temperature. When they cooked again - still not up to temperature. Food took forever even appetizers !
We won’t be going back.
Guests from out of the country.
Our waitress was nice but she could not understand english well enough to get us melted butter for our lobsters after 3 request she brought us some concoction that lemon butter and flour...it was horrible.
SATURDAY 615 PM 1-19-2019
The food and service where excellent.
The Surf and Turf special is one of my all-time favorite meals in Houston.
Food and service were excellent. Ambience was okay. Loud patrons (voices carried) were distracting but overall it was a great meal. Will definitely be back.
Had the stuffed rainbow trout. Absolutely horrible. The rice looked and tasted like it came from a box. The fish had no flavor and the stuffing was more breading than crab.
Happy hour on the patio was excellent! Had both ceviches, the chimicurri, and the amazing angel wings. Very good drink options, and all food was delicious!
Brunc was great as usual. America’s never disappoints.
We were put in a private party room that looked like a sad hotel conference room at the back of the restaurant, then promptly forgotten about by the waitstaff who also messed up our order. Not how I was looking to spend my New Year’s Eve.
I’ve been going to Américas for years and have never been really disappointed until New Years. Food was good, service was mediocre, and I felt like I was screwed over by the price fix menu and super small portions. My $65 meal came with 6 0z of steak and an upcharge of $10 to get another 2 oz
Took my GF and my 19-YO daughter for NYE because this was all that was available on short notice. Not sorry I went at all, but I won't be back soon.
Not really sure why, though. The food, service, decor, and general execution were all very good, just like I remembered them from the last time I did this ages ago. The churrasco steak, ceviche and tres leches are all still spectacular, although the concept seems to have been around forever by now. My pork entree and the chocolate dessert were very nice as well.
It seems to have gone from a very cool, innovative, cutting-edge concept (which is how I perceived it way, way back when it opened in the Saks Center on Post Oak Blvd.) to a Disney-fied, slightly touristy, well-oiled, money-making machine devoid of any character. Maybe it was all the upcharges on the 'fixed price' NYE menu.
If you haven't been, or haven't been in quite some time, go. Otherwise, scout around for something with a tad more authenticity and character (e.g., Eunice).
We enjoyed New Year’s Eve here. Their set menu allowed plenty of good choices. Service was slow, but it was a holiday. Food seems slightly less exciting than years ago when we loved this place, especially when they were located off Post Oak. It’s a good but maybe fading Houston standard, given all the amazing choices available now around the city.
New Years Eve
Despite being New Year's Eve the service was great. Food was great. They had a pre fixe menu tonight. I would come back for sure.
Sunday brunch is a must have. Service is always outstanding
Decor and ambiance is outstanding. Food was a bit cold but still good, with some interesting dishes. The longest part of the meal was trying to pay the bill. Had to run down the hostess to pay!
Wonderful cuisine in a knock out setting. The decor is a treat and the food is marvelous - creative, perfectly prepared and uniquely international. Can't beat this for a special and tasty meal.
