American Tap Room - Reston, VA Ratings and Reviews
A great place to eat in NoVA. Prices arent for the feight of heart as they are above avg compared to other resturants but competative in the higher priced DC Market overall. The Crab and Spinich dip is awesome ($12). The Stuffed shrimp are good as well but 6 for $25 seems a little too pricey for my taste for what you get. Also was disappointed they advertised Woodchuck Hard Cider on Tap (which is hard to find in resturants even in NC where I currently live, but grew up in NoVA) and had to settle for a bottle. The Desserts are to die for but also not cheap. My Banana bread pudding was awesome but at $10 I think was the highest on the menu (Desserts were otherwise $7 a peice in our group).
We enjoyed the blackenIed fish and it was wonderful as was the dessert, a fruit dish with whipped cream. The menus were unique in that they lit up even in the darkened restaurant. The service was very good and our waiter attentive. I will return to this restaurant.
services was extremely slow. our waiter actually left our table in the middle of taking our order to go talk to a group of servers who were huddled nearby. we think he may have been new and was trying to clarify something on the menu. still, he should have politely excused himself instead of just leaving. food was tasty but salads, apps and main courses arrived all together. my steak was cold by the time i got to eat it. bar scene was fun and engaging. loved all the live sports being shown.
Food was very good the Tuna was excellent with the ginger soy dressing on the side. My husband ordered Pastrami and cant stop talking about it. we were seated instantly would definitely go there again. The prices are good they get you with the extra charge for salad $6.00 per person and dessert ran us $7.00 per person. My lemon drop Martini was $9.00
Wanted a casual, good dinner and got it. The waiter was especially attentive and when one meal was too spicy for a member of our party took it back and exchanged it right away. It was probably louder than usual as it was the Final Four. Has a nice children's menu and overall a very good evening.
Fun restaurant, food and ambiance was very good. Service was excellent. We had a great table with awesome chairs. Great selection on the menu, loved the desert options as I had the fresh berries. My only complaint were the menus, they are unique but a tad annoying being a bit bright.
Enjoyable... requested a private or secluded seat for a first date, and was rewarded with a corner booth... not exactly private, but the best they could offer given the layout. Waiter was extremely attentive, conversational, and patient. Fun place, would definitely recommend.
Nice, well-rounded menu. Scallops were tasty but slightly gritty, though this seems to happen to me even at highest-end restaurants. Spouse enjoyed the steak. Nice assortment of side dishes to choose from, and reasonably priced. Dessert cart looked delicious, but we were too full to try any this time. Will definitely go back. Loved the back-lit menus, necessary for the dim room lighting.
So different from the ordinary mid-level dining experience. Ecclectic environment, diverse offerings. A very "cool" place to eat with oversized arm chairs and menus that light up. Loved the appetizers, especially the fried tempura zucchini. Dined here with the family for my daughter's 14th birthday and it passed the teen test. About the same price as Outback, but a lot more fun and better food. IMHO.
I travel from Boston to Virginia quite often and hold business lunches and although I have used OpenTable in the Boston area I have never used it when traveling. OpenTable proved to be a great resource too me for finding the American Tap Room and made the reservation process so simple. American Tap Room was a gem and I am very pleased that I found this restaurant. My business party of eight was very pleased with the table we were given, the service, and the food. Great job! I look forward to returning to the American Tap Room on future business trips.
The salmon salad was pitiful. Three forkfulls of salmon. I had mentioned something to the waiter about it, but was told that this was the lunch portion. I was hosting a business lunch and was embarassed at the minute portion size. I won't be returning for any reason.
When making the reservation I had requested a window and let the restaraunt know it was a special occassion our anniversary. However, when we were shown to our table we were put in the back very tight space and when we told our waiter it was our anniversary, it didn't really matter. Plus I have had Ahi Tuna at alot of restaraunts int he area and this was the worse. It was so spicy that I couldn't eat it, but that didn't matter either.
This is the second time I've eaten here and the food and service continued to be outstanding. Securing a table for 6 on a Saturday night was easy and the restaurant was more than accommodating when I added another seat. Service was great and we were able to carry on our conversation without having to fight the noise of other restaurants. Our server (Melvin?) was fantastic.
American Tap Room has done a good job of reinventing themselves in the restaurant mix of Reston Town Center. The menu has been revived, the service has improved, and the quality of the food is also much better. Great variety from sandwiches to entrees, salads to fish to steak, all with good presentation and flavor. The service was the best I have had and they even had a couple managers checking in with folks which tells me they know they have to be on their game. Prices have gone up slightly on the main menu items ($20-$30) but there are still bargains to be had. The Steak salad, ahi tuna, and crab cake were all good. I would certainly go back. Good place to get a table if you have a large group.
It was our first time to ATR and we both really enjoyed it. The waiter was very attentive, food was really great and we both commented at the end of the evening that the noise wasn't as bad as Clydes. I drove out from Arlington, and with the Christmas traffic it took an hour and a half, but I made it just at 6:30 in time for the reservation. My friend works in Reston and she didn't get there until 6:45 but it was okay. I was served a cup of coffee which warmed me up. Then we warmed up with wine!! I'd definately go back.
The atmosphere was very nice, the service was perfect, and we had a great time. It was not crowded when we arrived at 6:30 PM but it was very busy by the time we left at 8:30 PM. Food was good: macaroni with lobster was really good, chicken kabobs were excellent, the rib-eye steak kind of so-so.
Our sever seemed to be brand new at this. We were without drinks for a long time. When the food arrived, he confirmed that we wanted black pepper, but then never came back with it. After my friend asked for a cocktail menu, he simply told her it was no longer "happy hour", and offered no suggestions. The menus glow with LED lights inside which to me seemed desperate and "trying too hard" to be flashy, at the expense of a quality experience. My arugula salad was great, though, even without the pepper.
Lots of folks on the patio expressed a dissatisfaction for the music, which was all stuff from the 90s. I came to dance and the music never inspired me to move.
Food was great and service was very good. The noise from the bar travels to the restaurant so it makes it harder to have a conversation but not impossible. Not ideal for a quiet evening but definitely not too noisy to enjoy the evening. Would go back again.
This was our first visit. The restaurant and bar are very chic - we especially liked the lit menus. The food was great. Lobster mac n cheese is chock full of big clumps of lobster, and the chef was able to accomodate a special request. We are definitely foodies and will visit American Tap Room again soon.
Everything is always just sort of so so when we go to the Tap Room. We usually go for brunch and while we hear people around exclaiming over their breakfasts, we usually just think ours are overly greasy. They never bring a spoon with the coffee and we have to ask a couple of times just to get a utensil to stir in the sugar with. While we like the ambiance, the food is only passable...and really no spoon with coffee??
Great menu, however, chicken is always dry (I've had the chicken sandwich 2x). Love the beer and wine list. Only complaint is that the music gets unbearably loud around 10 pm. Luckily we were just finishing. We loved the spinach and crab dip! Will definitely come again, but on a weeknight.
