Restaurant week. Good for the price. Tomato soup was amazing.
Food was unexpectedly good. Was able to sample a lot of the menu. Some dishes are much stronger than others (salmon was excellent). Dessert was excellent.
Chicken sandwich and salmon were both excellent.
Fantastic new restaurant in DC. Really good food and great craft cocktails. Inside the new Eaton Hotel. I’m really impressed with the whole place and will definitely be back. Be sure to try the Venison and smelt.
The food was good, not great for the price. The drinks were on the pricier end, but great ambiance and excellent service!
Enjoyed their prix-fixe dining menu for New Year’s Eve. Not their usual menu, but it was excellent. Rabbit rigatoni, a pumpkin risotto, all delicious.
I was pleasantly surprised at the quality food and impeccable service! I will definitely recommend this fine establishment to friends and family. 5 stars ⭐️ ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
The food was good, but the portions were surprisingly small for the price, so we left feeling rather cheated.
Thoughtfully composed plates and wonderful service.
We had breakfast.
Interesting choices well prepared.
Maybe it was the holidays that made this place quiet and intimate but it was perfect and the staff was extremely professional, and the food was great. My only complaint would be the chairs but would not stop me from returning.
Great Service. Great Smile. Emmanuel was very suggestive with everything from cocktails, entrees, and desserts!! Management came by several times to follow up with our experience. Nice touch.
Good food, slow service. Cool vibe but could be considered overpriced for what it’s worth.
Beautiful restaurant with interesting menu. We went for brunch on a Saturday morning and had a great experience. Would definitely recommend and plan to return next time we are in DC.
When we went there they were still trying to figure out the menu. Although the food was innovative. There wasn't a lot of impact due to flavor, portion, and wait time. Portion didn't match the price. We thought we were getting an entree but ended up with a tapas serving. Which is fine, but I wish they would have told us so we could have ordered more. What I assume was the largest serving, seemed too large for two people.
Nice atmosphere but crab cake was not a crab cake, rather it was a pile of mayonnaise slathered crab salad. I had told waitress I didn’t like mayonnaise so this was quite irritating.
I went to American Son with a colleague. It was a fantastic experience and we will definitely be coming back with more colleagues/clients. The tofu gnocchi was amazing. Besides the tofu gnocchi, the crudo was superb. We got a few small plates to share, all were very delicate but flavorful, thoughtfully-created. The entrees looked great (whole fish) but we could not tackle it with only two people. Additionally, the service was phenomenal. Marvin was a great server.
Great service and charming menu. Well-appointed.
My boyfriend and I had an exceptional stay at the Eaton recently and decided to grab brunch at American Son. The menu was classic with some surprising dishes or ingredients sprinkled throughout. Our server was extremely sweet and helpful. The food presentation was carefully crafted and fun. We had a great experience here – and best of all, our dog was welcome to sit with us for our meal!
Located in the hip Eaton Hotel, American Son livens up the usually after-hours sleepy K Street business corridor. Ambiance is comfortably trendy. On arrival, the host gave an amiable welcome. Service was terrific thanks to Duane...he's a gem! Duane's good-natured manner made up with annoying slips in the timing of the dishes; too many appeared at once that could not fit on the tiny table for two. Staff is genuinely interested in making a pleasant dining experience & appreciates feedback. Tim Ma continues to impress with creative cooking. BFF & I started with the potato croquettes served in an unusual form, but oh so good! Charred Romaine Caesar served with wide fresh shaved parmesan & interesting croutons provides a nice greens course. Beef cheek was tender and flavorful. Tofu gnocchi was amazing...and no, you don't realize it's tofu! The only disappointment was the venison, newly added to the menu. It was cooked perfectly, but maybe it's just not a meat to my liking. We ended the meal with a wonderful pumpkin custard served with maple ice cream...could have had more of that on my plate!! We were seated next to a most interesting & fun Brit, trying to do justice to the awesome whole fish (good for a group), which added to the enjoyment of the evening. We peeked in on the beautiful, lively rooftop bar/lounge and will return.
The food does not disappoint. The beef cheeks pair tender braised meat with the sharp flavors of pickled onions and peppery spiced grilled peaches and rapini on a slightly sweet bed of grain.
The front of the house can be chilly...literally and figuratively. Despite having a reservation, I was seated in the lounge, which had a freezing breeze blowing through the front window. Fortunately, my server made up for this with his warmth.
Went for brunch at 1:30 on a Sunday and they were out of all of their pastries. What!?! I know American Son is somewhat new, but seems like they should be able to plan well enough to have pastries for Sunday brunch. Food we were able to get - Gem Caesar salad and Eggs Benedict - were pretty good. Acai bowl was large but not flavorful and had way too much yogurt. Wasn't clear if there was acai in there at all. Service also needs some practice. Will try it again in a month or two when they hopefully will have worked out some of the kinks of being new.
Loved this place and can’t wait to go back!
Very obnoxious food blogger or something next to us. I get why you host but it diminished our experience. We live around the corner at CityCenter and we’re looking forward to adding another spot to our mix
Amazing service, food, and ambiance. This place is great for everyday dining or special occasions! The staff is extremely helpful, nice, and accommodating. The food was outstanding, everything we had was very good and we got pretty much the whole menu. The ambiance was impeccable, very inviting and cozy. I would 10/10 recommend everyone to eat or grab drinks here! Also has a great local beer list and some of the best cocktails I’ve had in the city.
Nothing to write home about. Service was spotty. He seemed pretty new so that could be why. Our bone in ribeye came out before the tiny duck entree. When we inquired about the duck, seemed like the server had no recollection of the dish being ordered. Food was good and creative. But thought it was weird they dont take temp for the ribeye. It's worth a try but wouldn't be a regular here.
Total Disappointment. Understanding a relatively new restaurant, nonetheless...All reviews I read pointed to this as a great spot. Leaves me under the impression that restaurant-goers these days have little to be desired. Started great - seated right away, with wishes of "Happy Anniversary". From that point forward, it was a descent into restaurant abyss. Wine list was abysmal and WAY overpriced. $24 a glass, for a $34 bottle retail....Yikes. Yes, restaurants make their money on alcohol, this place is trying to retire, in style, off of it. Potato croquet "starter" was an overdone elephant ear, framed as a croquet done in duck fat/powdered sugar. To be clear, by overdone, I mean burnt, not too big, it was minuscule. "Main" dishes were small in appearance, although I would say, were a good portion of food for the price. Beef cheeks were decent - similar to a good, not great, version short ribs. The gnocchi, although seemingly highly rated among multiple reviewers/sites, were a nice concept that severely lacked in flavor (and tofu is usually determined to absorb flavor of any other ingredients). On to dessert - wife and I had [apparently] the same menus but with differing descriptions - of the five dessert options, 4 of those in my menu were listed as gluten-free. Only ONE was listed as such in my wife's. When I asked my server "calming a gluten sensitivity" (I have none) - he circled the dining room asking and finally went to the kitchen to uncover the truth, two of the five are gluten-free. At that point, he put the the menus all back in the same pile, hoping no other diner would uncover this mistake or die from their gluten intolerance. Bottom-line, I have eaten at restaurants 'round the globe and love French Laundry to Five Guys...This place performed at such an overall low level, I was disappointed at having to pay the Uber to get there and back - and I have stock in Uber. To finish - this was one of the most disappointing restaurants...
Our favorite dish was the potato croquet. We had the scallops, eggplants and the gnocchi. We also tried a couple of the desserts. Since we were celebrating a birthday, we were given a glass of champagne each and a dessert on the house- a very nice touch!
American Son is a lovely dining spot that can fulfill expectations for a myriad of occasions from everyday dining to special events. The food is innovative and perfectly executed; with a drink menu that is parallel in excellence. Service is on top of the patrons’ needs but also understands discretion and when to let diners interact with each other. Ambiance is trendy - what a beautifully decorated restaurant!
Restaurant is beautiful and modern!! Service was fantastic!!
Now on to the food Food- soup was not hot enough but the taste was ok and my kale and salmon salad was blah....
I am always excited to try a new spot but was certainly disappointed with the food. I know it’s hard to get a spot up and running so I wish you luck!
Great food, great service, great drinks and a great night! I recommend this place to all who look for fine dining and also don’t want to break the bank
We were a party of four for breakfast on a Sunday and were impressed with the ambiance, the food and most of all the very friendly and attentive staff. We're looking forward to trying it for lunch and dinner.
What a beautiful restaurant with an outstanding menu and phenomenal staff! We had a transformative experience for my husband's birthday and can't speak highly enough of the brilliant chef, his delightful front of house team and his talented team in the kitchen. Every drink, dish, detail and moment was carefully curated from the time we walked in the door to the time we walked out, and I can't wait to go back!!
One of the best restaurants we’ve ever visited. The vibe was great, the food was spectacular, and our server, Melvin, was outstanding. Melvin was very knowledgeable, accessible, and attentive without hovering. He made us feel at home and welcome, and not rushed in the least. In fact, everyone we met in the hotel were pleasant and helpful. Even the clientele were friendly. We’ll be back often. Thanks for a lovely time.
Was expected to be wowed by the food instead I was only wowed by the service and ambiance.
This restaurant is so charming! The moment you open the menu, you realize that you are in a space that is deeply personal to the Executive Chef, Tim Ma. His story sets the tone for the rest of the meal: American with Asian inspiration.
We had the fried smelt, potato appetizer, beef cheek, scallops and gnocchi. All were amazing, and very delicious! The plating is done very beautifully, and the server and bartenders were very attentive. The Catoctin Creek manhattans were perfectly made and a wonderful way to start off the meal. I would definitely recommend dining there. We will be back!!
The food was delicious and the service was amazing!
Excellent food, wonderful service, delicious cocktails, and an awesome ambiance! The restaurant is very new so now is your chance to get here before the crowds do!
We had an amazing time and the entire staff couldn't have been nicer and more attentive including a tour of the hotel after dinner. Great experience all around and I look forward to going back!
