Very hard to find, there is very little signage to know where you are. It can be very loud.

Hi Pelican! Thank you so much for your review. We are sorry to hear about your experience at American Son. This is by no way that we train our staff to treat our guest. We understand in DC, you have plenty of options to choose from. A manager will be reaching out to you.
On the day we went, they were booked for a private event an 1.25h after our reservation, so the restaurant was pretty empty and the service was a bit rushed. That being said they had amazing food— Benedict and burgers were amazing and good drinks as well. The place was nicely designed— would definitely go back just not when they had an event.
The food was overpriced for the quality and quantity

Great place for a lunch. Nice location, service is good and the food is very good.
I have been here 3 times and the service is consistently slow. The server tonight was unattentive and I had to flag him down every time we were in need of service. Will not be coming here again.
My friend and I both thought our meals (scallops; crab potato gnocchi) were lacking in flavor and the wrong temperature. This was a recommended restaurant from a colleague but missed the mark.
Went for dinner. Food was fine. Prices are high.
The tables were too small to hold all of our food. The plates were too small to share the food. The tables were too close to one another when there was plenty of space. The food was very good. The Brussel sprouts were a generous portion and very good.
Hostess was friendly and welcoming. The manager was nice enough to check on us as well as other tables just see how we were enjoying everything. Flick was great super knowledgeable and made great drinks. The food was amazing the rabbit rigatoni and scallops were exceptional and cooked perfectly. The winter green salad was yummy. The desserts I could go for the pan cotta right now! Can’t wait to go back and try brunch.

Great Valentines Dinner!
Valentine’s Day meal with my significant other. The drinks and service were amazing. The food was good - highlight was definitely the brussel sprouts and fried rice + kimchee that came with the fish. The duck was underwhelming and the fish felt like it was missing something. Wish we tried the quail and rabbit rigatoni instead.
Food was cold, atmosphere cold, this is a hotel restaurant. We left Mid-meal on Valentine’s Day. Ruined our evening.
It was fine. My salmon / pastrami smoked sandwich was clearly pre- prepared- toast was cold- very little salmon on it. The service was good- coffee fresh.
Very good food - very big portions , the waiter should have warned us. The wine was slightly corked, the waiter did not check . We discovered only later
Such a great, chic spot. The brunch foods is always great, and I tried the pork belly hash this time. Delicious.
It's a great place for brunch. The food is tasty. Only one thing - If the pork belly can have less oil at the bottom of the bowl it will be better. It now seems like the chef forgot to filter the extra oil.

Service was terrible. We waited a long time to place our order, get food, and the check. Waitress barely cracked a smile. When we tried to flag down other servers it felt like everyone was trying to avoid eye contact. Won’t be back again.
Nice little restaurant, perfect for the boutique Eaton. The restaurant has a section in the back with booths and the front bar area has a full bar, high top tables and smaller table settings with half booths decorated with throw pillows. The food was tasty and the service was good. The quaint and quietness of the restaurant provided the perfect setting for my godson and I to catch up.

The food tasted great for the most part, especially the duck confit, the appetizers and the dessert. The shrimp in the shrimp and grits were fine but not tasty.
The waiter was working hard and did a good job. Very courteous. But the staff seemed a little short in the dining room.
Most notable was that the food came out from the kitchen very slowly, even though the place was not crowded on this Sunday evening, early (5:30) during Restaurant Week.
The rating given here is probably not going to be the fairest, as I did not get the opportunity to try the food.
This restaurant was chosen to experience Winter Restaurant Week due to limited time for a birthday celebration luncheon on the final day of the event.
According to the site there was a particular menu for these times, however, if there were an indication these times did not cover all reservations, I clearly would not have chosen the lunch time option. You see, I was told after searching for the restaurant (inconspicuous signage), the lunch slots were only honored during the Monday through Friday times and only dinner was covered by Restaurant week on Sunday. I asked if we could partake of an early dinner and was told there was/were no food/preparers for that menu available at that time. The restaurant would close and kitchen would be cleaned up, to prepare for the special menu crew to cook.
Needless to say, after looking over the brunch menu offered at first seating, I chose to leave to search for a more palatable option. This review will probably get no points for this visit, but frankly it was wasted time, energy, and fuel. Fortunately, we did not park in the $24 lot.
There will be no return visit.

Went for lunch on the final Saturday of restaurant week. We thought lunch was available. Waiter/bartender got us a menu but didn’t explain no lunch menu. Had to walk to bar to request check. Food was great but I was disappointed in the Service. Will most likely return though
Visited during restaurant week. The food was great. Our server and the manager in duty were exceptional.
I really enjoyed the upscale casual vibe of American Son. The mix of wood, gold, and tile work was super chic.
My partner and I were celebrating our anniversary, and were greeted with a glass of champagne upon being seated, which we genuinely appreciated. It was Restaurant Week and we chose American Son because unlike other restaurants, the RW menu had a lot of variety with 5 different options for the main course. We shared the brussels and steak tartare to start. Then the Duck Confit and Potato Gnocchi. Followed by a Key Lime Panna Cotta and Red Velvet. Everything was delicious. No bites were left behind.
Service was gracious, knowledgeable, and very prompt. We will absolutely be back again soon!
Loud environment. Try not to sit anywhere in sight of the bar if you want to talk.
Food was missing anything resembling spice. Maybe that is intentional, dunno.
Interesting politically active hotel.
This is probably one of the worst restaurants I have tried in DC. I ordered the smoked salmon pastrami as a starter and that was tasty, but very small. My main dish, a pork belly, was horrible. There was 1% meat on it. It was simply a large slice of pure fat. It was disgusting. Every pork belly should have fat on it and I totally expect it, but there must actually be meat as well. The taste was awful and any restaurant with any sort of quality control should not serve that. My friend ordered the same thing and Hera did have meat on it. I simply left it on the plate and the servers never bothered to inquire if we even enjoyed our meal. Service was also and seemed genuinely uninterested in us.
Everyone in my party of 6 was disappointed with the meal.
Very cool hipster place on K Street. Breakfast, lunch or dinner. All good. Healthy food options and wonderful bar scene. Service is a little slow but the food is so fresh and made to order. Nice place to have a cocktail in the afternoon.
Went for restaurant week, was pleased overall with the dishes and pace they were coming out
I would need to visit the restaurant during a non-restaurant week time period to fully grasp the quality of the service. If I was solely basing my experience off of this afternoon I would have to say this is not a place to grab a quick bite. The food is very eclectic which means a diner needs to be a true foodie to understand what they will get when it comes to the table. I was pleased with the ambiance and the staff’s attempts to accommodate our party however there was a long wait time and no communication from the experience. It left my friends and I standing in a food abyss. Not a good place to be when you’re trying something new! I was also not impressed with our server who never explained the Restaurant Week menu, made any suggestions or recommendations, or asked if we wanted any other beverages other than water. We also got shocked with the almost $7 tip we were forced to pay. I do not recall the restaurant literature stating a mandatory gratuity, however we had to pay it. This was not classy.

Food was great. Our server Denise was very knowledgeable about the food, the wine, and the hotel in general.
The food was good, and the ambience was really cool. The service was a bit slow.
We dined here for New Year’s Eve. After making a 9:30pm reservation we learned that dinner ended at 9pm. We called and were assured that all reservations made after 9pm would be honored. As soon as we sat down we were told that the kitchen was closing and we needed to put our orders in. We were not offered the drink menu not were we asked if we wanted to order dessert. There was obviously a disconnect between the assurance that we would be taken care of with a 9:30pm reservation and what the kitchen was instructing waiters. We were so excited to dine at one of DC’s new and premier restaurants but the service was less than to be desired. We will not be back.
The food was very good but the service was extremely slow at the bar and at the table even though it was NYE night and there were probably a max of 20 ppl in the restaurant. We were never even asked if we wanted drinks once we were seated and had to ask 3 times for water.
